#### This reserve has what is considered to be one of the world’s most idyllic beaches and charms with its sparkling waters, wildlife and verdant forests. 

Take a day to explore the majestic Bahia de las Aguilas (Bay of the Eagles), located on the Dominican Republic’s southwest coast. Enjoy stunning forest vistas, spot turtles and be mesmerized by blue waters that sparkle under the sun’s rays.

The Bay of the Eagles is part of the Jaragua National Park, a UNESCO-recognised reserve established in 1983 to protect this rich biosphere. The 5-mile (8-kilometre) oceanfront covers the park’s southwest coastline and is very near to the Haitian border. Come by boat or rental car from nearby Barahona or towns along the Barahona-Enriquillo Highway.

One of the best aspects of the bay’s location within the national park is its isolation. At 15 miles (25 kilometres) from the nearest town, Pedernales, you can enjoy some peace and quiet away from the crowds.

To get to the bay, rent a boat or an all-wheel drive from Pedernales and make the short trip down the coastline. At the entry of the National Park, a restaurant offers food, snacks and local guides who can take you on a tour of the area’s best features for a fee.

Feel the warmth of the bay’s unspoiled sands as you walk along the oceanfront. Find a spot on the beach and search through the thousands of shells that wash ashore. Swimming is safe and relaxing because of the shallow sandbars and temperate waters. Be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen, as this semi-arid climate can get hot.

The bay is inhabited by an abundant native ecosystem. Look for some of the region’s turtles out to sea or in the shallow waters. Bring your own snorkeling gear and watch fish darting around the bay’s coral habitats. Inland, green iguanas blend in with the dry brush and cacti. Spot them sunbaking on rocks. 

The Bay of the Eagles is a 15 to 20 minute drive from Pedernales. Guides, boats and park entry each charge separate fees.

Beautiful Property, Not a True Luxury Experience At $1,500+ per night, the expectation is a seamless luxury experience. Casa de Campo is visually beautiful, but service and value did not match the price. Check-in required a 25+ minute wait for a “concierge check-in”, while 2 front desk agents remained unoccupied, yet there was no meaningful property overview or proactive assistance. The room was standard at best and consistently humid. We had booked expecting a hot tub, but only select rooms in another section section of the resort have them. Even after a partial adjustment through Expedia, the value was not there. The main pool shows visible wear, and overall upkeep does not reflect a luxury rate. Concierge service lacked initiative. When restaurants were full, we had to prompt alternatives. There was also confusion about what our stay included, despite the high rate, it covered no meals or experiences, only the room and a golf cart. Dining was good overall. Breakfast at Lago stood out thanks to Jael, who delivered the only truly five-star service we experienced. The property and golf course are beautiful, but service precision, clarity, and overall value fall short of true luxury standards.

Beautiful, fun place to stay for our family vacation with our adult kids. This hotel surpassed my expectations. It was clean and smelled amazing everywhere you went. Rooms were gorgeous & comfortable. Ocean was a beautiful temperature & seaweed free, at least at this time of year (Feb). Pools were clean & beautiful, but could be a bit warmer, for my liking. They had more activities & fun things to do than I expected! Only thing missing that we would have liked was tennis or pickleball courts. Restaurants were all good- especially loved the French restaurant (chez rose), the Mediterranean restaurant above the main pool (Huzur) and the Asian hibachi at Seishin. Also really enjoyed food at the buffet, sports bar and Italian restaurant too! Really enjoyed hydrotherapy & a great massage at the beautiful spa! Beach was gorgeous & service there was great! Shows we saw at night were surprisingly great! Michael Jackson show was way beyond any others we’ve seen. And karaoke, dj parties & nightclub were lots of fun too, with great music. Foam party in pool was fun too. Lobby bar & aqua club lounge bar made great drinks for us every night. Special thanks to Angelo, our great beach server, who went above and beyond to keep our beach days comfortable & happy. Also thanks to our butler Smerlyn, who was always happy & eager to help with anything we needed. Staff here are all well-trained to be very friendly & customer service oriented. Would love to return!
