"A beautiful chateau, full of charm and character. The room we stayed in was stunning, beautifully quiet with a massive bed. Facilities excellent in terms of pools and spa. Staff were all very welcoming and spoke many languages. The highlight is the restaurant which has a choice of set menus which were quite simply amazing and the wine list very extensive. If you want a pamper weekend away in a glorious setting, this is the place. We will be going back, no doubt about it. Highly, highly...

Chambre d’hôtes le Prieuré de Fouchères

8/10 Good

"A Charming French Farmhouse with Potential Set in a beautiful, peaceful, village, this working farm has all the makings of a French dream. The accommodation seemed more of a homestay than a hotel. Our bedroom was clean, and the host was very friendly and welcoming. The communal breakfast was a highlight, with tea and coffee, a choice of cereals, homemade mini pancakes, fresh bread and delicious homemade jams. Despite this, we felt that our accommodation felt dated rather than quaint. The bathroom would benefit from refreshing/updating and the mismatched old style bedding on the two double beds felt tired and overlooked. More attention to detail would make a real difference and make this nice property really wonderful. One thing to note, they do not take card payments. The property has wonderful character and enormous potential. With some sympathetic updating while retaining its rustic charm, it could be a truly special place to stay. Overall, an enjoyable homestay with a warm welcome, a lovely setting and plenty of room for improvement."

10/10 Excellent

"It was relaxing to have a very big bed after a long day of travelling. The shower was easy to access & easy to use after we had worked out what to do with the shower gel, you squeeze it. Couldn't comment on meals, we didn't partake of any."

Hotel de Charme By Arts & Millésimes

8/10 Good

"The hotel stands on the hillside in a beautiful spot. It looks over the village and countryside. The room is a good side with views over the pool and was adequate for a one night stop. There was a lot of work going on around the pool, banging, sawing and music playing. The pool itself could do with a little work around the edges to improve the finishes as there were cracks and holes. Not many staff around but tt was pleasant. Breakfast was adequate and self service. Short walk to the village were there wwere a few places to eat. The house of Renoir was a lovely place to visist."

Château in Champagne, luxurious, very affordable, private for 1 Family /group

10/10 Excellent

"Great place with 7 rooms, some are of course nicer set up than others. The pool is lovely and heated. Some downsides like very limited towels and the hosts could be a little more relaxed about their attitude towards vacationers using the house and the tours. They no longer do chef at the house, but the dinner we got delivered was very nice and lots of food. Very close to lots of cute little champagne houses. They could also probably rehabilitate some of the rooms like the dining room to their former glory because right now it's not very pretty."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Larrey?

The best area to stay in Larrey is within the village itself or in the immediately surrounding countryside, offering a tranquil experience rooted in the heart of rural Bourgogne.

Larrey is a small, agricultural village, and accommodation options are typically found in renovated guesthouses or charming bed and breakfasts. The village centre is modest, with a church and a few traditional houses, providing a genuine sense of local life. It's a place where you can enjoy the peace of the French countryside.

Couples looking for a quiet retreat will find Larrey ideal. The focus here is on relaxation, enjoying local produce, and perhaps exploring the nearby vineyards of the Chablis region, which are just a short drive away. It's great for those who appreciate scenic walks and a slower pace.

For those interested in exploring the wider Bourgogne region, staying in Larrey offers an excellent base. The village is well-situated for day trips to historic towns like Châtillon-sur-Seine or the impressive Abbaye de Fontenay, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

When is the best time to go to Larrey?

The best time to visit Larrey is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the vineyards are at their most picturesque.

During late spring, the countryside is green and vibrant, with flowers blooming. Temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 22°C, making it ideal for exploring the vineyards and enjoying outdoor activities without the heat of mid-summer. This period is particularly good for couples looking for a romantic escape, as the gentle weather is great for leisurely walks and wine tastings.

Early autumn offers equally agreeable weather, with temperatures between 12°C and 20°C. This is harvest season, so you'll see the vineyards bustling with activity, and many local festivals celebrating the grape harvest take place. For those interested in the winemaking process and a more authentic local experience, this is an excellent time to visit.
