Strange Location & Even Stranger Décor
"Well I picked this hotel for it's proximity to the daft, out of town bus station where I was fully expecting to be dumped by my through bus. Who would stay at a bus station apart from those lost souls who've missed the last connection? Well actually it was quite busy at breakfast though I heard no other guest noise, or noise from the busy road outside.
The room was huge, verging on the luxurious, I was impressed by the level of comfort offered. The front desk was always manned with polite helpful staff the only thing I found odd was all the bits of 'Art' scattered about the communal areas. Old luggage, statues, furniture and lighting that might have come from a brothel or nightclub, quirky I suppose but unnecessary.
In terms of location, I chose to walk into the centre of Trikala (about 40 mins) but use the country lane opposite rather than the busy main road as there is no pavement. Apparently there are local buses into Trikala but Greek buses are very confusing. My bus to Kalambaka left from the bus station but passed through the town centre stopping several times. Hotels.com quoted much higher headline rates than I actually paid when I selected the room I wanted making the place even better value for money."
