About this property

Wynaar Geode Huis | Scandinavian-Style Cabin Near Minnewaska

  • Newly built Scandinavian-style cabin on 4.5 wooded acres, designed with Feng Shui principles.

    - 6 minutes to Minnewaska State Park, 5 to Awosting Falls
    - Rail trail access from the backyard, along the Rondout Creek
    - Restaurants a 15-minute walk up the road
    - Sleeps 8 — 2 bedrooms + 2 baths on the main floor, loft, kids' room
    - Radiant heated floors, fire pit seating, charcoal grill
    - Pet friendly, family ready, Wi-Fi for remote work

We're easy to reach throughout your stay. We also work with a trusted local team, so if anything comes up, someone can get to the house quickly. If needed, Melissa and I are happy to come by in person.

Before you arrive, we'll send you our guide to the area. You'll also find our printed guidebook on the dining room table, with the Wi-Fi details, how everything in the house works, and our favorite places nearby.

The house sits on 4.5 acres, set back from the road and surrounded by trees.

Minnewaska State Park Preserve is a 6-minute drive: three sky lakes, more than 50 miles of footpaths, and 35 miles of roads along the Shawangunk Ridge. Awosting Falls is 5 minutes away: a 60-foot waterfall about a mile round trip.

A small path in the backyard opens onto the Kerhonkson O&W Rail Trail, which follows the Rondout Creek. Step out the door and you're walking beside the water within minutes. The trail runs 3.2 flat miles to neighboring Accord: an easy hour on foot, or a twenty-minute bike ride.

A fifteen-minute walk up a quiet road brings you into Kerhonkson, where Mill & Main serves great coffee and a refined dinner menu, and Flying Goose Tavern is an Art Deco-style bar and restaurant. Rough Cut Brewing is worth an afternoon trip as well.

A short drive opens up more. Accord has The Restaurant at Inness, worth planning a night around, plus Arrowood Farms and Westwind Orchard. Kelder's Farm, just up Route 209, has pick-your-own, corn mazes, and thirty-odd attractions for kids.

Visiting for a wedding at Inness? The house makes an easy home base for the weekend. With room for up to 8, your group can stay together, get ready together, and come back to the fire pit after the celebration.

The entire property is yours during your stay: the house, the yard, and the 4.5 acres. The one exception is the locked shed, which is off-limits.

Check-in is self-service. The smart lockbox is beside the front door with the house key inside, and we'll send you the code before you arrive. There's plenty of room in the gravel driveway, which is plowed in winter. Please park in the driveway only; there's no road parking.

There is one Ring camera on the property, mounted outside the front door. It records both video and audio when it detects motion, and it is active during your stay. That is the only recording device anywhere on the property: no cameras or microphones inside the home, and none in the backyard, around the fire pit, or anywhere else you'd relax outdoors. It's there to keep the house secure between stays and to let us know you've arrived safely.

The Wynaar Geode Huis is a brand new build, calm and bright, with radiant floor heating that keeps the floors warm underfoot all winter, four ductless wall units for heating and cooling with their own controls, and high-end appliances throughout.

    SLEEPING (up to 8 guests)
    - Primary bedroom (main floor): full bed, private en-suite bath
    - Bedroom 2 (main floor): queen bed
    - Loft (upstairs): two single sleeper pull-outs, TV
    - Kids' room (upstairs): bunk bed

Most comfortable for up to 6 guests. The loft pull-outs and bunk beds make it a great fit for families or groups with kids.

    LIVING ROOM
Sink into the oversized L-shaped sofa, layered with pillows and throws. Natural light fills the open floor plan, so the kitchen, dining, and living areas flow together and no one is left out of the conversation. The Samsung Frame TV displays art during the day and switches to a TV at night. In the cabinet underneath you'll find a record player with a few records, and board games.

    BEDROOMS & BATHROOMS
Both main-floor bedrooms look out over the private yard and the woods, and each has its own door to the outside. Blackout shades on the windows and the exterior doors mean you can actually sleep in. You'll find high-quality mattresses, soft high-thread-count linens, and two robes in each room.

The primary bedroom has its own private bath, with a soaking tub set beside a large window so you can take a long bath looking out at the trees. The second bathroom opens to the main living area, or closes off as a private bath for the second bedroom; its walk-in shower has the same large window for an outdoor-shower feel. Both are stocked with natural shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion.

Upstairs, up a full staircase, the loft overlooks the wooded yard and has two single sleeper pull-outs and a TV. Next door, the kids' room has a bunk bed and drawers for little ones' things.

    KITCHEN & DINING
The fully stocked kitchen has granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and everything you need to cook a real meal, including pantry basics. There's a Breville espresso machine with a built-in grinder and steam wand, so you can pull a proper shot and steam milk without leaving the house. The 90-inch dining table seats 8, so there's room for everyone at dinner and for games afterward.

    OUTDOOR SPACE
The backyard is made for slow days and long evenings. Light the charcoal grill for an easy dinner, then gather around the fire pit. Roast marshmallows, trade stories, and stay out well after dark. During the day there's plenty of room to spread out, whether that's a round of cornhole (set up in the backyard spring through fall), an afternoon in the sun, or a quiet morning coffee in the Hudson Valley air.

    FOR FAMILIES
A Pack 'n Play and blackout tent are available on request, just let us know before you arrive. There are toys for little ones and a giant Connect Four for all ages, plus board games in the living room cabinet.

    FOR REMOTE WORK
Strong, reliable Wi-Fi reaches every room of the house.

    ALSO INCLUDED
Washer and dryer. Hair dryer. Smart TVs in the living room and loft. Driveway parking.

    You'll want a car.
This is a rural property. The rail trail and the walk into town cover a lot of what you'll want to do on foot, but everything else — Minnewaska, the surrounding towns, Accord Market for groceries — is a drive. There's plenty of room in the gravel driveway, which is plowed in winter, and no road parking.

    Rideshare is unreliable here.
Uber and Lyft do operate in Ulster County, but coverage out this way is thin, especially at night and midweek. If you'd like a night out, arrange a local car service in advance; we'll include options in the guide we send before your stay.

    Driving from the city:
About two hours from New York City by way of the NY State Thruway (I-87 N).

    Arriving without a car:
Trailways buses run from Port Authority to New Paltz and Kingston, and Amtrak serves Rhinecliff and Poughkeepsie. You'd still need a car service for the last leg, so most guests find renting a car simpler.

    Drive times from the house:
    - Awosting Falls — 5 minutes
    - Minnewaska State Park Preserve — 6 minutes
    - Accord Market, the nearest grocery — 6 minutes
    - Accord — 6 minutes (or by rail trail — 3.2 miles from the backyard)
    - The Restaurant at Inness — 10 minutes
    - Stone Ridge — about 10 minutes
    - New Paltz — about 25 minutes
    - Kingston — about 30 minutes

    Pets:
Up to 2 dogs are welcome, with a $100 non-refundable pet fee per stay. All pets must be declared at booking. Please keep them off the furniture and beds and clean up after them outside. Trained service animals are not pets: they're welcome at no charge.

    Walking to town:
The walk into town follows a quiet residential road with very little traffic. There are no sidewalks, so take care, especially after dark.

    Stairs:
The loft and kids' room are upstairs, reached by a full staircase.

    Length of stay:
We host stays of up to 29 nights. Stays of two weeks or more include a cleaning every two weeks.

    Minimum age:
The guest who books must be at least 25 years old and must stay at the property for the duration of the reservation.

    Security cameras:
One Ring camera, mounted outside the front door, recording video and audio. It is the only recording device on the property. There are no cameras or microphones inside the home, and none in the backyard or any outdoor area where you'd relax.
