Kerava offers travellers fun festivals right in the city centre and excellent facilities for golf and outdoor activities.
Kerava lies on the outskirts of Helsinki and has good public transport links with the capital. Spend a city break in Kerava and participate in the annual Garlic Festival or Circus Market. Golf fans will find two popular golf clubs, while the shore of nearby Lake Tuusula contains the homes and studios of several major Finnish artists, including Ainola, the home of Jean and Aino Sibelius.
Kerava lies less than half an hour by train from Helsinki. The attractive Sun Hill (Aurinkomäki) is a green oasis in the heart of the bustling city centre, with a stage for a wide range of events.
From Sun Hill, you pass directly to the centre of Kerava and the Kauppakaari pedestrian precinct. This traffic-free area hosts many interesting events. Kerava has celebrated its Garlic Festival for more than three decades, while the autumn Circus Market fills the streets and parks with stalls and performances by circus artists.
The Art and Museum Centre Sinkka is definitely worth a visit. Sinkka is home to Kerava Museum and Kerava Art Museum, both of which organise temporary exhibitions. Kerava Museum displays local cultural history, while the Art Museum focuses on contemporary art and community art projects. Further from the centre is historic Kerava Manor.
Golf enthusiasts will certainly enjoy a holiday in Kerava, with its two nearby golf clubs: Tuusula Golf Club and Golf Talma. Golf Talma has two full-scale courses intended only for experienced players, but the Par 3 course is available to everyone. Feel free to try Tuusula Golf Club, as long as your handicap is in order. Both clubs are just a few miles from the centre of Kerava.
Kerava is easily reached by rail or by the Lahti motorway, which runs past the city. You can drive from Helsinki-Vantaa international airport to Kerava in about 15 minutes, and a good network of cycle paths makes Kerava a great place to explore by bicycle. From Kerava, you can easily visit Lake Tuusula with its artists' homes and the former studio that is now Halosenniemi Museum.
