This hotel scammed us. Despite booking and paying for a double room, they pretended Expedia had only booked a single…and said they had no rooms left. They told another couple arriving later the same evening the same lie. They had clearly rebooked our rooms as soon as they could charge a higher - peak season - rate. Appalling - no one should stay here!

Very disappointing. Seriously needs to be much cleaner. Numerous cigarette butts and debris at the front entrance. Restaurant dirty cutlery and poor hygiene.

Lovely quiet night in a very clean room.
The County Hotel Receptionist was very,very helpful, checking that I knew where to find the free car parking across the road from the hotel. I thought the room might be rather noisy, with an extract fan outside the window. The Receptionist was able to reassure me that this was the kitchen extractor which would be turned off by 21.00. It was, and I had a lovely quiet night in a very clean room.

The rooms were clean enough. On the small side. The bed was comfortable. Pillows could have been better. People should be made aware this hotel is partnered with a tour bus company. So anyone booked with the tour gets priority over other guests. Which if you don’t know this before booking, I don’t think it’s fair. When we arrived there was already two tour buses of people there. They had access to the restaurant and bar area. There was entertainment which you could hear right throughout the hotel. So if you wanted an early night, forget about it. We were only given a half hour time slot for breakfast. 9-9:30. So if you wanted to have an early start, it wasn’t happening. The breakfast staff were abrasive. They got my order wrong and mine didn’t arrive until nearly everyone else at my tables was done. We all said the food was not very hot. The choice of food wasn’t the best unless you like very basic food. My fathers bread was dripping with grease. Probably would have had a better breakfast from Greggs. The doors in the hotel need the catches fixed, as all you hear first thing in the morning and at night is slamming doors. I don’t recommend this place nor would we stay here again.

The shower was lukewarm only. The staff were friendly and very accommodating and welcoming when we arrived late due to travel problems. The room was clean and comfortable apart from the shower temperature. It is a short pleasant walk to shops and cafes.

Parking is not ideal or policed!!!
Only worry was parking. I had been informed that I could only park in one place but as I was a female travelling alone I did not feel that this parking was safe enough and had to park elsewhere. There should be a better way to police this issue as the vast majority of cars parked in the allocated area were owned by groups of men none of whom would swap their spots even though they did not need to access their cars at night. Unfortunately due to this matter I won't stay again or be able to recommend the hotel to friends or colleagues.

The room was nice and clean. The shower was not adjustable and dangerously hot so I had to move to a smaller room (didn't get offered any compensation for the hassle or smaller room). In the second room the shower was also very hot although it was bearable when adjusted down, but still extremely hot!!. I must advise that the hot water was a danger to scalding someone especially as the hotel has coach parties of elderly folk visiting (children would also be very at risk). Breakfast was served from 9 which is far too late and really inconvenienced my client which I wasn't happy about. The food was sound and staff were helpful and pleasant. The hotel was ridiculously hot however and the cost of heating and water must be sky-high. I liked the hand sanitiser on the door and foot pump action sanitiser dispensers.

Upon reviewing this complaint, I have been made aware that when you had moved rooms you had been moved into one of our bigger/spacious single rooms. We always try our best to reimburse our guests if they are not able to have breakfast at our set times however, due to the fact that you had already paid expedia for this booking we were not able to do so, we did inform you of this during check out. We also advised you to contact expedia for the reimbursement. Comfy stay
Found the hotel easily following my sat nav. Well located. Parking was off site but thankfully i only had one bag. Lovely staff on front desk. Breakfast didn't start until 9am so i was unable to have breakfast as I had an early start. Clean rooms. Comfy bed but pillows were like bricks

Very convenient for the station
There was a surprise on entering as the door handles were hand gel dispensers, and I gripped them a little too hard ! The room was good, the bed was enormous, the only issue I had was that the TV reception was so bad it was unwatchable. A potential issue for some could be that breakfast is not served until 9

Too Early For Christmas
Room not as described, no seating area, damp patches on the wall, curtains so far way from the wall it didn't stop street light coming in. Room was above a Christmas party with a very loud singer. Told breakfast was between 9 - 9:30, not given a choice of times. Staff were pleasant but we didn't appreciated the all the Christmas jumpers, headbands etc, 2nd November is way to early for Christmas.

Unsure but delighted with the booking
We were unsure about making this booking but had no need for any concerns. Free parking was across the road from the hotel. It was possible to stop outside to unload luggage. Although we were told that we would have to sit down to our meals after the coach party times turned out to be reasonably flexible. The meals were good and value for money. The room was clean and comfortable. Despite being above the lounge and looking out on to a main road it was reasonably quiet. What made the stay even better was the fact that all the staff were friendly and went out of their way to ensure you enjoyed your stay.

Location a moderate walk from town centre, room ok, bed comfortable but narrow, bathroom clean with hand rail in shower. Dining room functional but service somewhat shambolic.

Pleasant hotel
Very pleasant rooms with comfortable beds and good facilities and convenient for the station. Staff were not particularly welcoming, especially for breakefast when the waiting staff disputed the agreed time. Admittedly they were also coping with a coach party, but they should have known about pre-booked slots. Not much evidence of Covid-secure practices.

We are sorry to hear that you have cause to complain following your recent stay with us but we surprised to hear that you did not find our staff welcoming as we are always complimented on our how welcoming our staff are so we apologies if you felt like this. This is the last thing we want our guests to feel and we would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. The breakfast times have always been from 9 - 9:30am, we can only apologise for the confusion surrounding our breakfast times. Thank you for choosing to book with us at The County Hotel in Kendal and we hope these issues will not prevent you from booking with us again in the future.

Raised lack of cleanliness issues on checkout and was advised Manager would be informed. To date no contact whatsoever! Would not recommend hotel.

Great locarion, happy to help with any requests
We had a lovely stay here. The hotel is in an excellent location for the train station and a short walk to Kendal castle and the town centre. The hotel was clean and the room was in good condition. The breakfast was nice, served at the table, so no having to fight your way to a buffet. I think it is geared towards older people as there were a coach trips in but the reception were happy to provide anything we asked. Great stay, great value, great staff.

An excellent hotel situated directly across the road from the railway station, within close range of all Kendal has to offer. The bedroom was large enough with a very comfortable bed and the bathroom had been recently updated.
