Large Courtyard Pool. All 4 Oceanview Bedrooms Stately and serene, THE HOME OF THE HULA MOON is one of the most beautiful contemporary oceanfront properties in PUAKO. Each bedroom has a perfect ocean view. Located near the end of the road, you will enjoy year-round sunsets and privacy. Puako probably has the best beach weather on the Big Island. Hula Moon has stunning views of the Kohala Mountains, and of Maui. Our infinity lawn goes right to the ocean. There are wonderful tide pools to explore, and a small sandy beach to the left of our home. At high tide, you can snorkel in front of the house. We also have a large courtyard pool. There is lots of room for family and friends at this apx. 5000 sq. foot home right on the beach. We do not have Air Conditioning, but the large ceiling fans, and ocean breezes keep it very pleasant. I don't allow parties, weddings, workshops, receptions, etc. at the house. Please don't ask to be the exception. Looking at the photos, you will see that our home has a courtyard pool and a large infinity lawn to the ocean. There is no barrier between the house and the ocean, therefore, please note the layout of the property and then think about the people in your group, especially children, prior to booking this vacation rental. We have hosted many children, but they do require constant supervision. All vacation rentals in Hawaii must have a license and permit, and my permit is on display throughout the house per County of Hawaii laws. Please see my generic "for reference only" contract attached herein. You will need to sign your individual contract and waiver in order to finalize your booking at The Home of the Hula Moon. Once you book, I will email that contract to you. Back to the fun stuff. As you enter through the gates, lush tropical plantings enhance the large courtyard swimming pool and generous lanai. The pool is usually between 79 and 86 degrees depending on the season. The pool is less than 4 feet deep but it is fairly large and I swim laps in it. Please keep all of the gates closed so that our resident flock of wild turkeys doesn't wander into the courtyard. HULA MOON is designed so that every room has a magnificent view of the ocean, and you will love the open and airy feeling of this large home which offers gracious living in a relaxed atmosphere. The two-story Great Room is very inviting. The wall of sliding glass doors can be pushed all of the way open and the locking screens can then slide into place. The large oceanside lanai has a dining table for 8 to 10 guests. The lanai also has comfy chairs for relaxing and a "punee" for lounging. There is a built-in bar, and a Weber grill just off the lanai. The small sandy beach just to the left of our home, and that is great for playing in the sand with the kids and we have a few buckets and toys in the guest garage. We have beach chairs and umbrellas and pool floats, but these floats etc. are just toys and not life-saving devices. And please don't take them to the ocean. From the lanai, you will enjoy watching the humpback whales in season, pods of spinner dolphins, and our resident green sea turtles. Please don't get within twelve feet of the turtles, they need their rest. The Puako reef offers some of the best snorkeling and walk-in scuba diving on the Big Island. Because our home is located between two beach access points, you will have very few people walking along the beach going past our house, because they will run into the seawall next door and have to turn around. We have four large bedrooms each with maximum privacy. The Kona and Kohala suites are on the main floor and both have stunning ocean views and doors that open onto the lanai. Each suite has been beautifully appointed with new King mattresses and new linens. Both have large bathrooms with a separate dressing area and a large "open air" (but enclosed shower) filled with tropical plants and flowers. The two spacious upstairs bedrooms have expansive ocean views and a private lanai that runs the length of the house. The Aloha suite has a new King bed and a new punee (Hawaiian twin bed) for relaxing. The Turtle suite has new Twin beds (that can be made into a KING Bed) plus a daybed The Turtle suite is a great room choice for the kids, or for parents who want to sleep with their child. Of course, it is also perfect for for friends to share. Both upstairs bedrooms have bathrooms with large walk-in showers. There are no bathtubs in the house. Each bedroom has a TV set. There are 6 televisions with many premium cable channels throughout the house. We still have one DVD player, and we have a large selection of DVD movies in the Living room cabinets. There are ceiling fans, portable fans and louvered windows in every room. There is NO AIR CONDITIONING but if you leave the louvers open and the glass doors open with the screens in place, it remains cool and comfortable. Every bed has a blanket plus a quilt or comforter which guests often need at night. If you have business to attend to, we have several work stations. We have good wifi coverage on the property and it's the best that Spectrum has to offer. The internet is great for streaming and most work, but it’s not meant for realtime gaming or other low-latency tasks. Guests may not unplug the modem, the router or the sync modules which are everywhere to increase coverage. If you do this, you may shut down the system and it will be down until my IT person can get to the home. He charges $195 per hour, so call me or your concierge before trying to "burp" the system, otherwise, expect a delay in service. The upstairs double office has a printer that you can use to make copies. There is paper and spare ink in the drawer. There is also another punee (Hawaiian lounging bed) up there for relaxing. This can sleep an adult or teen if someone needs to sleep separately, but let us know well in advance if this is anticipated, so that we can make it up properly. Please note, you may NOT take the mattresses off the beds and move them into different parts of the home or outdoors. And please do not move the indoor chairs outdoors, or vice versa. The floors and decks can scratch if you are dragging furniture or suitcases around so please don't do that. This is a shoe free home. Please leave your street shoes outside on the lanai. If you don't like walking barefoot indoors, please Bring a Pair of clean House Slippers. We observe this Hawaiian tradition of removing your shoes before entering. Mahalo for your consideration. In the bathrooms, we provide hand soap and bar soap for our guests, but we do not provide shampoo or conditioner so please bring your own. Extra housekeeping, in-home massage, kayak rentals, catering and more can be arranged locally so please ask our concierge. We will do our best to give you some options so that you can make the arrangements for your perfect Puako experience! HULA MOON is a welcoming home where visitors can feel like a local. This is our second home and our only vacation rental property, and it shows in our attention to details. The house is immaculate and is so well equipped we rarely wanted to leave. We traveled with multi generations (grandparents / parents / younger children) and all found things we love. The patio (lanai) should be in a magazine, with views that are incredible. The pool was a huge hit - kids and parents swam daily and lounged in the afternoons. We saw basking sea turtles, spinner dolphins, and even a whale spout from the lanai. The neighborhood was quiet. The pool area was secluded with gorgeous landscaping and the pool was a perfect temperature for cooling off.The home is spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean, and the artwork was an unexpected bonus. The family had plenty of room and the showers were superb. The owner and concierge were quick to answer questions and to make recommendations for local restaurants and activities. Overall, it was the best VRBO experience the family has had, and we hope to return! ##### Colleen M. We went snorkeling almost every day, took sunset walks (saw eagle rays and squid), swam in the pool, ate outside. The weather was perfect (Thanksgiving).and the house lacked for nothing (extra refrigerators came in handy). The hosts took very good care of us - giving us tips and making sure everything was OK. Each night we had about 6 or 7 turtles right in front of the house on a rock. ##### Beverly G. The pool was great to have. Turtles everywhere on the beach, rocks and when snorkeling out front. Quiet neighborhood. Great snorkeling out front and down the road where paid tours go…. The home is absolutely gorgeous with incredible views. The kitchen is a chef’s dream with everything you could possibly need to cook with. Our favorite pastime was relaxing on the beautiful lanai. The location, close to the ocean with a beautiful large lawn and deck, is perfect! There is exceptional art work all around the house. Everything is quality -- high end kitchen (+ 3 refrigerators!) with plentiful supplies -- sitting areas everywhere and a wrap around upstairs deck. From the moment we checked in until the moment we left, our every need was met. The home is in a spectacular location, right on the beach which provides beautiful views of sunrises and sunsets. The home is very tastefully decorated and extremely well-maintained. It’s clearly the most well-stocked home we’ve ever rented, with high-end linens and an abundance of kitchen supplies. We felt pampered and never found ourselves in need of a single thing. The communication with both the host and the property manager was exceptional. They were always available and responded quickly with information and/or answers to questions. The detailed description of the house rules and home details set a foundation of clear expectations for our stay which was very much appreciated by me and my entire family. Went to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. Incredibly comfortable, spacious, has everything we needed. Kids really enjoyed the pool, fully stocked with toys. Great supplies in house - used chairs and cooler for a beach day. Niki, the concierge checked in daily and Gail the host was lovely. Zero complaints. The home itself is impeccable, beautifully decorated, comfortable and stocked with everything you could need. The location is one of a kind. We had perfect weather and were lucky enough to see awesome whale activity right from the back patio, all week long. The kids and adults alike spent hours walking along the shoreline and we saw so much beautiful wildlife. The sea turtles abound right outside! The house is located right on the water and we were greeted daily by large sea turtles swimming in the water or on the beach. The patio was our favorite place to have our meals, play cards or board games while overlooking the yard and beach where the kids hung out. The bedrooms were large and beds comfortable. The property manager was excellent. She greeted us, gave us a tour and answered any questions we had during our stay immediately. Our adult children and partners were blown away on seeing it for the first time. Everything you need for an incredible week is provided by Gail, the owner. Nikki our manager, was extremely helpful, providing us with information on food shopping, aquatic equipment rental, restaurants, farmers’ markets, and beaches before we arrived via text and phone and during our visit. She was a joy to work with! All in all our experience was first rate and the first of what we hope will be more to come. ##### david b. Eels & fish were shy. Whales spotted in the distance (2/7/23 - 2/14/23). Property was exactly as pictured. Perfect stay for 2 couples & 2 single adults. It got a bit humid the last night of our stay; if it had been hotter it would have been quite uncomfortable without air conditioning. It was comfortable & breezy the other days. We had a great stay with nine of us! Plenty of room! The home has everything you need to cook with! The beach is great early in the morning to walk out and see sea turtles! (The beach isn’t friendly for swimming or playing in the sand since it’s lava rock, Which the listing does say). There’s a really nice beach five minutes away that’s secluded and beautiful! The sunsets and sunrise are beautiful! This home is made for relaxing! The pool was so fun for the kids! I would recommend this house for anyone that wants a high end home on the beach. Also, side note no shampoo and conditioner (which the listing says) but I didn’t notice so be sure to stop at the store before arriving! ##### Bridget S. Being right on the ocean, watching the sunsets, surrounded by lovely landscaping, the scent of plumeria and jasmine, the sound of the birds and the waves - such a gift! And the house is amazing, beautiful views, huge rooms, great decor and art, comfortable furniture, gorgeous rugs, huge lanai, the coolest showers ever! And everything you could possibly need for barbecuing or cooking or trips to the beach. Gail was so helpful and accommodating and Niki was there for us whenever we had a need or question. 10 stars!
