Great opportunity to stay at the completely remodeled Paniau Surf Cottage while its still undiscovered . Bright and open floor plan with all new bathrooms, kitchen, flooring has style and comfort through out. The home has a large private yard at the quiet end of Puako Beach Drive right across from Paniau Beach Park. The home being on the end of the street is next to open land and the sounds of nature. Puako is the only ocean front residential community on the Kohala Coast with large expansive homes and original beach cottages from the early 50`s side by side. Enjoy the sounds of the ocean and birdsong in the morning when you wake and walk across the street with your cup of coffee. Let the ocean take your cares away! A beachside trail starting across the street provides an easy hike to sandy beaches. Watch year round sunsets across the street and in the winter months, the whales will put a show on for you!

Finishes in the home include granite counter tops and beautiful wood engineered flooring throughout. There is a full-sized bathroom with tub and shower and two sinks for the two bedrooms. A private outdoor garden shower that offers a warm shower under the stars or serves as a great alternative to wash off the day after playing in the sun. Prepare delicious food in the large, fully equipped, kitchen that boasts updated appliances and enjoy meals together, in the adjoining dining section or in the spacious living room area. Cosy up on the large cushy, new sectional sofa and watch a great film in the living room on the flat screen TV or snuggle together. Enjoy the outdoors and ocean breezes in cosy furniture on the covered front lanai. Sun on the side patio lounge chairs, relax under the palm trees on a hammock or play in the warm sunshine on the large, surrounding yard with your kids. Pack up the family and head out into each day with the fully stocked beach amenities including snorkel gear, beach chairs and more. To close out your day of rest or exploring the wonders of the Big Island, walk over to the shoreline and enjoy some of the most incredible sunsets that Puako has to offer.

Paniau Surf is located directly across from Paniau park which has incredible snorkelling in the summer and surfing in the winter. There is also a path that you can walk extending from the park all the way to Mauna Lani resort area, with many beautiful spots for swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling along the way. Quote from a guest: "We had a WONDERFUL stay at the Paniau Surf Puako! The home is an absolutely perfect location for a stay on the Kona coast of the Big Island, we couldn't believe that we were directly across the street from the best beach access of Puako! We heard and saw the waves during big swell and enjoyed amazing snorkelling during the calmer times. The number of turtles was truly astonishing, we started taking a "turtle walk" every night at sunset to check them out and just enjoy the area. The home itself was better than I had even expected, fully stocked with beach towels, folding chairs, boogie boards, snorkels/masks, and toys for our boys. The house was decorated beautifully, had a great kitchen, great outdoor shower, and very comfortable bedrooms for all. We used the BBQ most nights and sat out on the back patio area enjoying the night air."

    Guest Access:

Guests will have full use and access to home and grounds. No shared spaces.

    The Area:

Puako is still the only ocean front residential community along the Gold Coast/Kohala Coast of the Big Island nestled between the Mauna Lani Resort, Fairmont Orchid and Mauna Kea/Hapuna Resorts. Hapuna Beach State Park has earned the reputation of being one of Hawaii Island's finest beaches. It is the largest White Sands Beach on The Big Island and consistently rates on Top Ten lists internationally. Hapuna Beach offers some wonderful opportunities for swimming, bodysurfing, bodyboarding, sunbathing and snorkelling and is just a mile from Puako. You can even drive the back road to Hapuna Beach and not get on the Highway. Local shore fisherman can be seen daily enjoying the great reef fishing. Puako Beach Drive has no through access which keeps it virtually still undiscovered by many.

There are six separate "beach" accesses along this stretch of beach. Although there is not a tremendous amount of sand, there are tide pools and the extensive protected reef is remarkable. During low tide, small pools dot the entire coastline and these pools are filled with small sea life that make excellent areas to explore for all ages. If you enjoy shore diving, kayaking and snorkelling you can find a spot along this stretch of shoreline to enter the water. Offshore the reef is home to a wide variety of fish and many days you will see dolphins playing right from the shore. Enjoy the Whales who return each year to mate and give birth in the tropical warm waters during the winter months.

    Getting Around:

A car is recommended for getting around the area and enjoying all that Hawaii Island has on offer.

    Interaction with Guests:

We like to say hello in person, but keep to ourselves otherwise. We are a professional management company and are available to assist you at any time during your stay.

We had a fantastic stay at this property and would absolutely come back. The house was exceptionally clean and very well maintained, which made it feel comfortable and welcoming from the moment we arrived. It was also incredibly well provisioned—everything we needed in the kitchen was there, and the beach gear was a huge bonus. Having those extras on hand made it easy to fully enjoy our time without needing to rent or buy anything additional. The location really stood out. There’s a beautiful, shady beach just across the street with great tide pools and excellent snorkeling. We spent a lot of time there—it’s perfect for both relaxing and exploring. There’s also a beach trail that connects to nearby resorts, which was great for walking and accessing additional dining options.Overall, it’s an ideal home base for exploring the island, with easy access to beaches and other key areas while still feeling peaceful and tucked away. Highly recommend.

Quiet relaxation

We loved this stay so much. This is a simple, clean, private house at the end of a beach road. Our whole family (2 adults & 2 teens/tweens) enjoyed the peaceful neighborhood, and the private yard with hammocks between the palm trees. The house has great amenities we didn't know we needed, including beach chairs, aqua socks, coolers for packing lunches, a 2 gallon water thermos that we used every day to stay hydrated on all our day trips on the road!, a hose for washing sand off your feet and an outdoor shower. Each evening we crossed the quiet street to the surfing beach to watch the sunset and surfers. (Hot tip, it's not a swimming or snorkeling beach. Optimal for surfers only.) You can also walk 10min along the beach to the trailhead for the Puako petroglyphs, and/or continue along the beach to the Mauna Lani resort area. Just a note, the snorkel masks in the house all seem to leak! We had a great time on an organized snorkel tour instead.

Wonderful Stay — Highly RecommendWe had an amazing time at this vacation rental. The home was spotless, comfortable, and exactly as described. Check‑in was smooth, and the host was incredibly responsive and easy to communicate with throughout our stay — especially through VRBO messaging, where replies were always quick and helpful. The location was perfect, situated comfortably near great sightseeing spots, resorts for shopping and dining, and plenty of activities for the whole family. Even though we had a few rainy and stormy days, the rental itself was cozy and relaxing, making it easy to enjoy our downtime. And on the days when the sun peeked out, we could simply walk across the street to the beach for a quick fishing adventure or to capture some beautiful photos. The space had all the essentials (and more), making it easy for us to settle in and unwind. We truly appreciated the thoughtful touches and the overall care put into the property. It made our vacation stress‑free and memorable. We would absolutely stay here again.
