Private Puako Home - NO shared walls! Full Mauna Kea Views & Steps to the Beach

Aloha! Welcome to ʻOhana Hale, your private Puako retreat. The whole property is yours with NO shared walls as a condo has. You'll have a stunning forest and unobstructed view of majestic Mauna Kea from the lanai, living room and dining area. This quiet and tranquil location is literally 100 steps away from the beach. This is your perfect spot on the Big Island to relax and rejuvenate far from the crowds and human noises. You'll delight in the symphony of bird calls and perhaps the trade winds in the palm fronds. Situated in the quiet historic shoreline community of Puako, our comfortable accommodations provide vacationers a perfect home base for those coming to the Big Island to find their balance or to find their adventure.

Enjoy walking out the sliding door every morning onto the grass area to enjoy a beautiful sunrises over Mauna Kea with your cup of Kona coffee. Take a morning or mid-day stroll to the beach to view sea turtles, swim, snorkel, or just sit and read a book listening to the sounds of the surf. Walk to nearby ancient Hawaiian lava petroglyphs. Be sure to check out the night sky from the backyard. The special lighting on the island for the observatories on top of Mauna Kea makes for a break taking view.

Ohana Hale showcases Big Island paintings of fine art by local artist Christian Enns (christianenns.com) who has a gallery at neighboring resort to the north, Hapuna Prince, as well as a studio and gallery in the neighborhood. Our home sleeps four with the primary bedroom having king sized bed, guest bedroom with two single beds, a living room with large couch and dining area which seats six. Enjoy a fully stocked kitchen, two bathrooms, washer, dryer, outdoor shower, air conditioning, and an outdoor BBQ. All linens and furnishings are newly refreshed. This property is an excellent space stay, play and relax while on the Big Island.

Puako offers access to some of the best snorkel and diving experiences on the Big Island. You will be near world famous golf courses, delightful outdoor shopping malls that feature an array of great boutique shops and some of the best Big Island dining and views. Of course if you're interested in any of the many water sport activities the Kawaihae harbour and nearby resorts at Waikoloa beach have a wide variety of offers. Take advantage of the many sunset catamaran excursions or sunset excursions to the top of Mauna Kea at close to 14,000 feet (~4200 meters) above sea level. There are also five National Parks on the island. Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic Site is the closest being a 15 minute drive to the north and highly recommended to learn more about the Hawaiian history and culture.

Exceptional home! It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay… from games to beach chairs. I loved the outdoor shower, the teens love the tree swing, and my husband loved the air conditioned rooms. All in all, we would definitely stay again. Thank you so much!

Amazing Vacation

I almost hate to review this house because we'd like to keep it a secret:) It was in a fabulous and quiet location with access to a little sunset watching beach with lots of turtles to view from a safe distance. The yard and swing were highlights and we loved every minute of our trip!!

November Stay in Puako

The location was perfect for our family holiday - close to beaches and outdoor activities and tucked away from hustle and bustle of resort-based communities. The swing in the backyard was a hit with the kids and the view beyond it was amazing. This is a quiet, relaxing and friendly spot steps away from the beach (and turtles), tucked off the road with all the conveniences of being home.

Ohana Hale-A great place to stay!

We have stayed at Ohana Hale several times for extended stays and will continue to return. Puako is a lovely residential community and ideal for watching sunsets, snorkeling, and is in close proximity to some of the best beaches on the island. The home is nicely appointed, with comfortable beds, a well-stocked kitchen, and a nice floor plan. The yard is a great place to relax, with an awesome view of Mauna Kea. The hosts are helpful and responsive and a joy to work with.

Paradise

We loved our stay at Sandi and Ken’s place in Puako. It was a quiet beautiful neighborhood with the ocean (and sea turtles) just right across the street and Mauna Kea stargazing in the backyard. Easy to get to get to all the best beaches. Stocked with all the kitchen essentials and beach essentials. We loved our stay and can’t wait to come back!

Sunrise (happy) cries

The first morning waking up just before sunrise in this beautiful setting made me cry happy tears. The view to the northeast of Mauna Loa is truly wonderful. Beyond the amazing and relaxing surrounding open space and beach, the home is well stocked and cared for. The bed in the primary room is also exceptionally comfortable!

Puako vacation

This is my third time to stay at this home in Puako. I love it there, in the morning you can see the sunlight coming between Kohala and Mauna Kea, and view the mountains of Mauna Loa and Hualalai as well, weather depending. In the evening I walk across the street and watch the sunset.

Really Wonderful!

Sandi was a wonderful host. The home was beautiful, very clean, with a really well stocked kitchen. The location was amazing. The view from the back yard was fantastic, especially on a clear night. We saw turtles resting on the rocks at the beach just across the road. A really nice quiet neighborhood. I hope that I can come back and stay again.

A perfect stay in Puako

We are repeat guests at this clean, well appointed home. The layout is conducive to a bit of privacy for two couples or friends or families, as the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the common spaces. We love staying in a residential neighborhood with a short walk to incredible snorkeling, a new sunset every evening across the street, and awesome beaches just a half mile away. Spectacular views of Mauna Kea from the private backyard. The hosts are responsive and accommodating. A great place!

It couldn't have been more beautiful

The house is perfect: lovingly furnished, with charm and character, and plenty of space for four people. We were four women seeking peace and relaxation, and that's exactly what we found here. A wonderful garden with a view of Mauna Kea and the sunrise, and a one-minute walk to the ocean for our first coffee. And in the evening, we were able to enjoy the sunset. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace. Everything we needed in terms of furnishings and kitchen equipment was there, and even more. The contact with the landlord was exceptionally friendly, quick, and reliable. The stay truly exceeded our expectations, and we would come back anytime.Mahalo

Perfect - Once again!

This home suits us perfectly! It isn't part of a resort community, nor does is it isolated up on the island. We walk across the road to the edge of the old lava flow and spend our day sitting on the sand, wading through the tidepools, snorkeling, watching for whale and at the end the day, watching a gorgeous sunset over the ocean. It's near the ranchlands to the north and resort shopping and restaurants to the south. And you certainly can't beat the beautiful sunrises over Mouna Kea each morning. We love this well-cared for, comfortable little home.

Great views

The listing accurately shows the house and rooms. The setting is really nice with the back yard having an unobstructed view of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. And the beach is just across the street, we saw several turtles near shore. Nice quiet neighborhood. It is a bit of a drive to most destinations, though to be expected given how dispersed the island is. Hapuna Beach which is gorgeous is a short drive though. Hosts were very responsive to help deal with a few minor maintenance issues.

Ohana Hale

We always go to the Big Island and we always stay in Puako. We’ve rented several VRBO’s over the years, including an oceanfront home. Ohana Hale is our favorite of them all. I LOVED the backyard—very private, stunning sunrises, and lots of birds. Our older adult daughter liked the outdoor shower and tree swing. Our younger adult daughter liked access to good turtle watching and tide pooling just across the street. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking and we appreciated the variety of spices and having plenty of storage containers for leftovers. The area is quiet at night, the beds are comfy, and we slept well. The house is extremely clean with no creepy crawlies. I found the owners to be friendly and responsive. Ohana Hale will see us again!

Restful Oasis!

The Ohana Hale is wonderful! A great place to relax and enjoy nature (lots of birds!) House is very private and peaceful, beautifully decorated, great views from the back lanai. Good communication with clear instructions on how to get there, get in, what to do, etc. The house was very clean, well equipped kitchen and comfy couches. There are 2 bedrooms but we only used the master suite. The bed was very comfortable, great closet and bathroom area. Having a washer and dryer was a plus. House has great AC and ceiling fans. Beach access is a short walk across the road. There are also great travel books available and a very informative binder with restaurant suggestions. Would definitely love to stay here again and can see why so people have done so!!

Perfect Puako

I’ve stayed in Puako many times and have sampled a variety of accommodations. This 2 bedroom 2 bathroom “Ohana Hale” suited us perfectly! We enjoyed watching the sunrise over Mauna Kea, and the sunset over the ocean. Access to waterfront was easy and our daily routine included a morning shore walk. From the shore, we witnessed many turtles, both swimming and sunning. We also watched a whale spouting close to shore. We used the a/c only once when we first arrived at night to a closed up house. After that, only fans and open windows were needed. The bonus to that approach is you can hear the waves. I highly recommend and hope to visit again in the future! Mahalo!
