Kamppi Chapel is a Lutheran church with a unique minimalist wooden design. Known as the “Chapel of Silence,” this remarkable wooden structure is open for visitors from all backgrounds and beliefs as a place to reflect. Escape the bustling central Helsinki atmosphere and relax in this distinctive chapel. Notice the chapel’s curved and soft shape, a stunning example of innovative wood architecture. The inner walls are made from oiled alder planks. The furnishings were constructed using wood from an enormous ash tree. At more than 35 feet (11 metres) tall, the main hall is one of the chapel’s most imposing features. Relax in the chapel’s tranquil main hall, where the lively Narinkka Square surroundings have been intentionally blocked out. Outside the enclosed wooden shell are secondary spaces that open up toward the square. Kamppi Chapel’s entrance also functions as an exhibition space and an area for social workers and clergymen. The Social Services Department of the City of Helsinki and the Helsinki parishes operate Kamppi Chapel. This wonderful space is open daily for silent moments and meetings. Walk to many other excellent Helsinki attractions, such as Parliament House and Helsinki Music Centre, from Kamppi Chapel. Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art is about 5 minutes’ walk away from Kamppi Chapel. This museum features an outstanding collection of contemporary art, including about 8,000 works from the 1970s to the present day. See photographs, comics, sculptures, installations, digital works and more by emerging and established contemporary artists. Kamppi Chapel is also near a large shopping and entertainment complex, Kamppi Centre, and a beautiful public space, Esplanadi Park. Kamppi Chapel is located next to Narinkka Square in Kamppi.
