"Very nicely appointed rooms and a big walk in shower, separate from the tub. The main lobby was beautiful, restaurant is very nice. They also offer room service. There is also a nice spa on campus, but we did not have time to investigate. Breakfast was included, the hotel offers a lovely buffet. Also noticed after the fact, that I did not receive the 20% off a restaurant order offered through Expedia for Key members. I would stay here again."

"Loved visiting Leopard's Lair - the setting is excellent on the "other" end of Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate and on the Mohlabetsi river - it really feels secluded and more "in the bush". The rooms are large and beautiful with the patio/balcony and outdoor showers. The team is excellent - our host and property manager Sonja was warm and wonderful and had so many great suggestions about Hoedspruit (all her food recommendations were perfect!)."

"We had a one night stay at Safari Moon and we are so glad we did! This is such a warm, lovely boutique lodge with the kindest staff and clean beautiful rooms. We had a couples massage and it was fantastic! As a type 1 Diabetic, they absolutely tweaked the menu to accommodate my needs and it was terrific! This is a very special place and if we ever find ourselves any where near Hoedspruit, do not hesitate to stay at Safari Moon...you won't regret it!"

Tomo Safari Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"I can’t tell you how much we loved our stay. The room was beautiful, the property was lovely. Food and hospitality were excellent. Our guide Jason and tracker Pete were so good. We saw all of the big five and they got us close enough to get awesome pictures. The property has a small number of rooms so there was plenty of space around the pool and other areas during leisure time. We felt like the staff tried to anticipate our needs and they even had complimentary laundry service. Overall it was an amazing stay and worth every penny."

AM Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"We had a great stay at AM Lodge. Shepherd helped carefully coordinate logistics regarding pickups, meals, and even an excursion to Kruger National Park. Benjamin was an outstanding guide for our morning and evening game rides, looking for paw prints and signs taking us to lions, giraffes, rhinos, impala, zebras, and more - seeing animals up close was an amazing experience! Our accommodations (Superior Suite #8) overseeing the reserve had a phenomenal view of the river and nearby mountains. The outdoor patio was such a serene and perfect spot to relax during the day. Thanks to everyone at AM Lodge that made our stay feel special!"

8/10 Good

There is also a nice spa on campus, but we did not have time to investigate. Breakfast was included, the hotel offers a lovely buffet. Moditlo River Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"There are absolutely no negatives to write about Moditlo River Lodge. We had the most amazing 4-night stay. All the staff were kind, helpful and nothing was an issue to them. We had read reviews saying the food was good but we were pleasantly surprised with how good! Every meal we had was great, especially as we were lucky enough to have braai for two evening meals."

Cape Vulture Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"I should preface this review by saying that I am a professional wildlife photographer. I have stayed at dozens of safari lodges both, expensive high-end and ‘budget’ all over Southern and East Africa. The Cape Vulture Lodge, is exceptional! I simply cannot praise it enough. If you require accommodation in this part of South Africa, this is the place to stay! It is very close to the ‘Panorama Route Drive’ and the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, Bourkes Luck Potholes, and a few large waterfalls. The location of the lodge is stunning, at the base of towering Drakensberg cliffs, complete with nesting ledges of the rare, endangered Cape Vulture. The individual ‘tents’ (more like canvas cabins on raised wooden platforms) are spotlessly clean and well appointed with large beds surrounded with mosquito nets, comfortable furniture, elegant bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers. Antelope and giraffes often stroll by. The main building with the deck, lounge, bar and dining area, is contemporary safari style covered by a thatched roof. The staff, from the manager to the cleaners are all very friendly, polite and exceptionally helpful. Oh, the food! The lady chef is exceptional, frankly the very best in Africa! The meals are inventive, well presented and gourmet delicious, with all dietary restrictions catered for! Sustainability is part of their ethos, power is all solar. They grow their own vegetables. They offer a multitude of wildlife based activities."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Kampersrus?

The best area to stay in Kampersrus is the main village area, particularly around the Kampersrus Centre and the surrounding streets.

This central part of Kampersrus offers a blend of convenience and access to local amenities. You'll find a selection of shops for daily essentials, a few local eateries, and craft markets, all within easy walking distance. The area around Kampersrus Centre serves as the natural hub for the community.

For couples seeking a relaxing escape with convenient access to nature, staying slightly outside the immediate centre, towards the Drakensberg Mountains, is ideal. Many guesthouses and lodges in this fringe area offer stunning views of the mountains and the Lowveld, providing a tranquil setting while still being a short drive from the village amenities.

When is the best time to go to Kampersrus?

The best time to go to Kampersrus is during the dry winter months, from May to September, for pleasant weather and optimal wildlife viewing.

During this period, the days are typically sunny and mild, with cooler evenings. This makes it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the natural beauty of the area without the intense heat and humidity of summer. The lack of rain also means that vegetation is sparser, and animals gather around water sources, making them easier to spot on game drives.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will appreciate the comfortable climate for leisurely walks and enjoying sundowners with scenic views. The clear skies provide excellent stargazing opportunities, adding to the relaxed ambience.

Families travelling with children will find the cooler, drier weather more comfortable for extended periods outdoors.
