"They didn't provide room there saying it's already fully booked. Then they given room in a nearby lodge which is totally sub standard even their tab water is dirty and smelly. They also told that they have no tie up with Expedia and their room tariff was only Rs. 3500 (with breakfast). While Expedia charged Rs. 7800 for the the same. It is totally unfair from Expedia.com side, they should make partial refund for this.."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Jakar?
The best area to stay in Jakar is generally in the main town area, particularly near the Chamkhar River or along the road leading to Jakar Dzong.

This area forms the practical centre of Jakar. It's compact, with hotels, guesthouses, and local eateries dotted along the main road. The Chamkhar River runs through the valley, offering pleasant views, and the iconic Jakar Dzong, a large fortress monastery, is perched on a ridge overlooking the town.

For couples seeking a blend of cultural immersion and relaxation, staying close to the river offers hotels with scenic views and a peaceful setting, while still being a short walk or drive from the main town's amenities. Many properties here provide a tranquil base with easy access to local craft shops and small cafes.

Travellers interested in exploring the region's spiritual and historical sites will find hotels near the path to Jakar Dzong convenient.
When is the best time to go to Jakar?
The best time to visit Jakar, Bumthang, is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months, when the weather is most pleasant for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Spring in Jakar brings mild temperatures and clear skies, with average daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C. This is an excellent time for trekking and exploring the valley's monasteries and temples, as the rhododendrons and other wildflowers are in bloom, adding a touch of colour to the landscape. It's particularly good for those who enjoy hiking to places like the Burning Lake (Mebar Tsho) or visiting Kurjey Lhakhang with comfortable weather.

Autumn also offers ideal conditions, with sunny days and crisp air, and temperatures similar to spring. This season is particularly popular for cultural festivals, such as the Jambay Lhakhang Drup and Prakar Lhakhang Tshechu, which usually take place in October or November. These events provide a wonderful insight into Bhutanese traditions and are a good fit for travellers interested in local culture and photography.

While summer (June to August) can be warm, it also brings the monsoon season with more rainfall, and winter (December to February) can be very cold with occasional snowfall.
