Originally, it was the seat of the Central Mint of Prague; it was named after the Italian experts who were at the forefront of the minting reform. The main area of the mint consisted of coin-makers-workshops, or Smithies, which were located around the courtyard, and the minting chamber, called “Preghaus”, where the Prague groschen were struck. After its reconstruction at the end of the 14th century, the Italian Court became a part-time Royal residence of Czech kings. Kutná Hora hosted the most important silver mines in the land from 14th to 16th century and the Prague groschen coin was the unified money instrument from 1300 to 1537 in the whole kingdom. (113 reviews) Well appointed apartment, really pleasant building. Great beds, very quiet at night. Lovely neighbourhood with possibly some of the best coffee going. Spoilt for choice for decent places to eat also. Wonderful base for exploring Holešovice, City Centre and the surrounding areas. Tram stops practically outside. Only criticism is the check in, as building is unstaffed relies heavily on kiosk and clear information. Kiosk is easy enough to use, once you get the hang of it, but doesn't have the most user friendly interface. Information printed on walls is incorrect, use the entire reference given (not ten digits as indicated).
