We caught northern lights nightly from the patio, walked the beach at low tide all in total privacy. Bara Borgarnes for dinner we had to repeat was less than a 10 min easy drive when weather was less distance friendly. The drive to Reykjavík typically took us 45 mins. The host and accommodations were spot on and you should not hesitate in picking this property. It was ideal for us. ##### Ari Peress P. It is a great spot to see Aurora Borealis and we were able to get some nice photographs. The owners were kind enough to tell us how to shut down the automatic outside lights so we could better view the Northern Lights. Property was clean, well stocked and had very nice views. There was only two of us so we only used the downstairs. TV was located upstairs in a loft area. Even though it was quite cold the cabin was nice and warm. It is not a large cabin and is very compact with good design and very nicely decorated. Downstairs bed quite comfortable. If you have trouble with balance or lifting, you could have trouble with the steep path that goes down from the parking spot to the cabin. That's the only real issue we had while staying there with having to cart luggage up and down the path. It could be problematic for seniors and anyone with a health issue. Inside the cabin, there are two steps down to the main floor bedroom, then two steps down to the mud room, then two steps up to the bathroom. We managed quite well, but important information for anyone with mobility issues. Property owners seem very concerned about guest service and we were very pleased. If you are after a beautiful view and solitude, you will not be disappointed here. Since I own and also manage a total of 23 cabins, I have some guest experience and may be a little more critical in my reviews than most people. ##### Karen E. The little black cabin was perfect for us - we were able to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside (and saw the northern lights over the cabin two of the three nights we were there), but were still close enough to Reykjavik, the Golden Circle, Husafell, and Borgarnes to have lots of options for exploring as well. Our hosts emailed us an in-depth booklet of info on both the house and favorite activities in the area so we had a chance to do some research/make some reservations before arriving, then there was even more helpful info at the cottage when we arrived. The warmed floors in the entry and bathroom were so nice (especially after venturing out on the glacier), and the kitchen was amply stocked with spices, coffee, and even some dried goods. The hot water was plentiful and much appreciated, and the cold water was delicious straight from the tap! We are already missing the distinctly Scandinavian black timber cabin, but will definitely return. So much left to see! ##### Greg G. We loved staying outside of Borgarnes for four nights in the back timber house. It was quiet and quaint and we felt unplugged from Reykjavik in a good way. We loved being in the country and felt like locals instead of tourists. We enjoyed walking down to the coast at the base of the property and finding little waterfalls and bird watching. At low tide we watched a fox run across the entire bay! The view of the city of Borgarnes from the backyard was perfect too. I booked this property 8 months ago and dreamed about it until our trip. It definitely lived up to my expectations and did not disappoint! We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to everyone. Also, I highly recommend these food places in Borgarnes: La Colina (pizza), The Settlement Center (daily wellness buffet from 1130-3pm), and Geira Bakari (amazing bread and cheap sandwiches). Tip: skip the tunnel at least once and hike around Fossarrett (old sheep enclosure waterfall). The purple lupine wildflowers are everywhere there (June) and it was so beautiful!
