The surrounding streets are easy to navigate on foot, offering a genuine glimpse into local life.

For couples seeking a peaceful retreat, staying near the Plaza de Armas offers convenience and a pleasant base for exploring. You'll find local restaurants serving traditional dishes and small shops for souvenirs. It's a good spot to simply enjoy the local culture and the calm atmosphere.

Solo travellers will also find the town centre an excellent choice due to its accessibility and the presence of essential services.

The best time to visit Huanchay is during the dry season, which runs from May to September.

During these months, you'll experience clear skies and pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and archaeological sites. The dry weather ensures that hiking trails are accessible and the roads, particularly those leading to higher elevations, are in their best condition. This period is superb for travellers who want to make the most of outdoor activities without the interruption of rain.

The shoulder months of April and October can also be good options. While there's a slightly higher chance of rain, you'll find fewer crowds and still enjoy many sunny days. This can be appealing for those who prefer a more tranquil experience and potentially better value on accommodation and tours.
