Experience nature, culture and history on a holiday to Hobro
There are plenty of entertainment options when you visit Hobro, whether for a weekend or a longer break. The surrounding nature offers numerous experiences both on land and at sea, and for those interested in history, you are right in the heart of the Vikings' home turf.
Hobro is situated by Mariager Fjord and is surrounded by stunning scenery, making the town a perfect destination for rowing, swimming, hiking or cycling. Go on a red deer spotting tour in Lille Vildmose, then enjoy some game ragout at the adjoining café. If you want to see Hobro from the water, you can either take a rowing boat out on the lake or take part in a guided tour in a canoe or kayak.
At Mariager Saltcenter you can learn about the salt's unique properties, and see how it is prepared. Bring your swimming costume and enjoy floating in the warm salt water. Complete your visit with a delicious dinner in the café, or visit the shop where you can buy different herb salts as a souvenir.
A trip to Hobro would not be complete without a visit to Vikingecenter Fyrkat, where you can explore the castle built by Harald Blåtand (Harald Bluetooth). There are year-round activities for you to explore, and you can learn more about the Viking times. At the GAS museum, the whole family can re-energise, or at least learn more about how gas has affected the Danes' lives over time.
If you love trains, don't miss a trip on the Veteran railway, which runs in the summer. Take a ride on this beautiful old train dating back to the 1900s, and get a closer look at its restoration in the engine shed. For the children among you who enjoy playing in the sea, spend a day at the beach or visit Øster Hurup waterpark, which offers water slides and fountains.
Hobro has plenty to offer, there is something for everyone. Regardless of the season or weather, the Vikings’ hometown has plenty of unique experiences.
