Read our Reviews! When we moved to Hawai'i in 1989 our journey started in Volcano Village outside of the National Park. In 2000 we moved our karma and love for the 'aina (land) to Honoli'i. When you visit our home we hope you engender the same feelings we have: peace, serenity and the knowledge that Pele and Kanaloa watch over the Big Island and the special piece of it we mind for them. When we bought this property we completely remodeled it from the ground up. It has state of the art finishes throughout and is meant to provide a tranquil respite for Lisha and I after we complete our work with the Foreign Service. It's a place for families to gather together and celebrate what's important. When you walk in through the custom front door, you will start to see the design features and art immediately. Large spaces and endless light fill the area which include the living room, kitchen, dining area and lanai. On this main level there are two bedrooms, one with a queen and one with two twins. Take the staircase downstairs and you enter the realm of the sixty by twenty foot wide Family Suite. It has a queen bed and a king size bed in the sleeping area. The beds aren’t visible from each other but there no additional privacy. The beautiful bathroom has a free standing tub while the toilet is in a separate room. Then there is my personal favorite, a double shower which is also a steam room. There is a second, fully covered lanai on this level as well. Just outside the bedroom's side door there is an outdoor shower looking over the ocean. Cooling is provided by ceiling and floor fans in all rooms. If you open the sliding doors the trade winds keep it comfortable. Between June and August it can be hot and muggy on a few days which is part of being in Hawai’i. We do not have AC nor do most homes in East Hawai'i. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need. Please note that housekeeping removes condiments and food when cleaning so please bring what you require. Please be aware that our insurance does NOT allow for charcoal or gas grills and BBQs. Like all of East Hawai’i we have coqui frogs chirping at night. Depending on the night they can be loud. Most guests find the sound pleasing while others not so much! OCCUPANCY-In consideration of our neighbors and because of liability issues, OCCUPANCY AND USE OF THE HOUSE IS STRICTLY LIMITED TO THE NUMBER OF GUESTS WE HAVE AGREED TO IN YOUR RESERVATION. Other persons are not allowed on the property and there can be no loud parties at any time. Quiet hours are dictated by County ordinance and are between 9pm and 8am during which time "noise shall not unreasonably disturb adjacent neighbors". At all other times of the day "sound shall not be more excessive than would otherwise be associated with a residential area". Our neighbors closely monitor the street and record and report disruptive events as soon as they happen. IF WE RECEIVE A COMPLAINT REGARDING EXCESSIVE TRAFFIC, NOISE OR PARTIES OF ANY KIND YOU WILL FORFEIT YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT. We understand that many wish to have events and parties and in fact love a good time ourselves. If that is your need then our home is not the place for you. Parking is in the driveway ONLY. Please do not park on the street. Please be aware that we only accept reservations through VRBO and related distributed channels like HomeAway and Expedia. There are scams that show photos of our home on Craigslist where you are asked to send payment directly. PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED! Our base rate is for up to four guests. Each additional guest from five to a maximum of eight is charged at $50 per person per night to cover additional wear and tear and utility costs. FINAL IMPORTANT NOTE about our cancellation policy. In 2020 we nearly lost our home when we were prohibited from accepting guests for nearly a year and our income dropped to zero. We gave many refunds and allowed others to reschedule for future dates which was unfortunately still a complete loss to us. Commencing June 1st, 2021 we are once again firm in our policy. Cancellations received at least sixty (60) days before your arrival date will be refunded in full. Inside of sixty days and before thirty days you will receive a 50% refund. Inside of THIRTY DAYS there are NO refunds. The ONLY exception would be if Hawaii State or County authorities prohibit us from having guests due to a public health emergency or natural disaster. Then we will work with each guest individually to find a solution. To protect both of us we recommend securing travel insurance that allows you to cancel in the event you are uncomfortable traveling or if Covid cases rise, or any other issue such as a personal health or family emergency. With that in place you will hopefully receive your money back and we will not be asked to bear the entire burden on our shoulders. Very relaxing location right by the ocean, you can hear the waves crashing on the rocks below. Beautiful view of the sunrise from the upstairs or downstairs porches.This house is on the edge of a sea cliff so does not have direct access to the waterfront or a beach. Nonetheless it is an excellent base for exploring The Big Island. Quick drive of 5 minutes into the heart of Hilo. Approximately hour and a half to Kona/West coast depending on where you are going. Owner very responsive and helpful. All beds comfortable. Everything works perfectly. Kitchen well-stocked with pots, pans, cooking utensils, etc. We were pleasantly surprised to discover snorkeling equipment available for use, along with beach shoes for exploring the rocky tidepools. Table on upstairs porch big enough for 8-10 people to dine. We would definitely stay here again and give this location our highest recommendation. ##### BW T. The property is beautiful with lovely terraces overlooking the ocean, and a large kitchen and bedrooms spread out on two floors. We were a party of 8 and it was comfortably large for us. The house was spacious with plenty of room for our family of four and our parents. It’s a perfect base point for Hilo excursions. I recommend this place for extended family vacation. The only drawback was no toiletries such as shampoo were provided. Other than that we had a great stay. ##### Michelle K. Watched whales every day, great view from the deck. Loved the downstairs master, king bed, awesome tub. Brian was one of the best hosts we have staying with. This is his home and the decorating he has brought from around the world is fascinating. Very well stocked, every thing you need. Proximity to downtown Hilo is great. We had a fantastic time here! The house itself was gorgeous with all the amenities you could want. The kitchen was well stocked. The view of Hilo Bay was incredible and we saw whales every morning from the lanai. The house itself is a quick drive to downtown Hilo/the airport yet in a secluded neighborhood so you feel like you are in your own private world. The host was very responsive and check in was great. Check out was even easier! Highly recommend and would definitely stay again! ##### Aimee G. The house lived up to everything that was written about it! It has a modern, well-appointed kitchen and living area that opens up to a lanai with an amazing view of the waves crashing right up to the shore. We watched the gorgeous sunrise each morning. The house has lovely furnishings, airy rooms, large lanais on two levels with ample outdoor furniture, plus a large grassy area on the side. All stores and attractions are close by. Stay here and you will be very satisfied with your choice! ##### Miriam S. Easy drive back and forth to town of Hilo. My only issue which was the lack of air conditioning along the coast in Hilo where it rains nightly contributed to the house initially being hot and musty smelling which took a while to get comfortable. ##### Michelle F. It is very spacious and is at a great location. As other reviewer pointed out, they don't offer shampoo and bodywash. It's not a big deal for me. It is not far away from walmart or target. You can buy your favorite shampoo and bodywash in the store. We didn't really want to cook but liked to dine in the house. The solution is to buy take-out foods from restaurants in Hilo. I would recommend this house. ##### Jing L. Beautiful property, equipped with everything you'd need for a great vacation (including beach stuff, toys for the little ones, great kitchen supplies)! We had thanksgiving dinner out on the deck. As soon as you walk in the door, the sound of the waves and the tree frogs make you feel like you're walking into a different world of nature and tranquility! One of the large beds in the downstairs was in a "nook" without complete privacy, which was fine for our family. It was nice to be able to space out the babies (one upstairs, one downstairs) so they didn't wake each other. Great location was convenient to town, a beach park and the sights along the Hamakua coast. We had a wonderful experience here! ##### Kathryn O. We recently completed our 5th vacation stay at, “Absolutely OceanFront” in Hilo, right on the water. The ocean views were stunning, sleeping to the sound of the waves was incredibly relaxing. The house was clean, very spacious, and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The outdoor space, along with its upper & lower level Lanai’s overlooking the water, was perfect for morning coffee and sunrise (occasional cruise ship) or evening cocktails. The location was convenient to, Volcano National Park, hiking, beaches and 5 minutes from restaurants and downtown Hilo yet far enough to feel peaceful and secluded. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a serene oceanfront getaway in Hilo! Being from Texas we definitely enjoy our AC. We didn’t miss AC for a second! Can’t beat the smell of fresh ocean air along with the cooling breeze from the trade winds! Thank you again Brian and Elizabeth for sharing your beautiful home with us! ##### Jack P. We vacation a lot and this home went beyond our expectations. From the beautiful sunrises with a 180 degree view of the bay to daily whale sightings to the amazing decor. We loved the full body spray showers and deep soaker tub. The kitchen was beautiful and well stocked. The beds and bedding were comfortable The house is in a nice neighborhood with only the sounds of the birds and the ocean. The ocean breeze was amazing at keeping the house at a perfect temperature The owners were only a text away with answers to any questions. The blender quit on us and there was a new one at the door the next morning check in and out was hassle free. We will definitely stay there again. Stayed 5 nights in Feb 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Margaret C. 25 Feb 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Excellent location that combines privacy, quiet, and easy access to Hilo As stated in the title, this property is the perfect location if you are desiring easy access to all Hilo has to offer but also prefer to enjoy both quiet and privacy. The check in process was the easiest I have experienced among several stays at other locations. The email with the check in information was sent a couple of days before, the lock box and associated lock worked well, and when I did have a question, I had no problem contacting the property manager. I think that perhaps the home owners have been away from the property for an extended period of time. There were some maintenance and cleaning issues that need to be addressed: repainting of badly scuffed house walls, and peeling balcony railings, several burned out lightbulbs, no beach chairs available (but all kinds of other wonderful beach gear), dirty lanai and some cracked and well worn lanai furniture. The owner was very responsive to my inquiries both before and during the stay. It is my belief that once he is made aware of needed updates, the improvements will occur. Despite some maintenance/cleaning updates needing to occur, these did not affect our enjoyment of our stay and I definitely recommend this home. ##### Margaret C.
