The Pear Cottage - unwind and recharge or explore the Tasman Peninsula

The Pear Cottage sits high on a hill looking down over the valley as you emerge into the secret little world of Tasma Vale . On the road to Ship Stern Bluff and Cape Raoul, it is ideal for anyone wanting to get away and recharge their batteries or explore what the Tasman Peninsula has to offer.
The Pear Cottage is a renovated workman s cottage, the earliest part dating from the 1890’s. It offers a restored claw foot bath from the original cottage on the property and is a perfect place to unwind. The cottage is 15 minutes from Port Arthur and 10 minutes from the start of the Cape Raoul walking track. This track also leads to the world renowned big wave surfing spot, Shipstern s Bluff. Magnicent White Beach is only five minutes away. On a clear winter s night you may be fortunate to view the Southern Aurora shimmering in the southern sky.
The cottage has two luxury king size beds and two king singles giving you a perfect excuse to enjoy a leisurely sleep in.
Other features of the cottage include:
A well equipped kitchen with continental breakfast provisions
• tea/herbal tea, and locally made coffee.
• a wood heater and air conditioning
• under - floor heating in the bathroom
• laundry with washing machine
• verandah and deck with BBQ
• wi fi and Foxtel
The Pear Cottage has its own private driveway and is not visible from any of the other residences, giving you privacy. The verandah and deck with a BBQ sits at the front of house looking out towards Benjafield Ridge, a perfect place to enjoy a five o clock wind down.

Pear Cottage-A delight
A perfect cottage stay for the week. Cosy fires after a long days walk and a soak in the bath tub. Lyn and Gavin are the perfect hosts. Loved watching the pademelons and the possums on an evening, whilst enjoying a glass of wine on the terrace.

We risk giving away this little secret on the Tasman Peninsula
Travelling with a family of 6 - we stayed at Gavin and Lyn's hideaway in Nubeena. Perfectly located for those interested in Port Arthur, Cape Raoul, Shipstern, Cape Huay, and Eaglehawk neck (We did them all). A perfect balance of classic (wood fireplace, comfy beds/bedding, etc) and modern amenities (rainforest shower, heated bathroom floors, wifi, etc). On sunny days, we were on walks and on rainy days we took advantage of the puzzle collection, where's Wally collection, and Encyclopedias in front of the wood burning fireplace. (There's netflix, etc if that's your thing). Our younger ones loved the lambs in the paddock. We didn't take advantage of the secret path down to White beach (but we will next time). Fresh cut flowers when we walked in (I'll give credit to Lyn for that - sorry Gav), a place to wash muddy hiking clothing, and a hot shower to end the day - can't ask for more on your holiday on the peninsula. A fully functional kitchen and outdoor grill for homemade meals (plus a collection of teas/coffee/cereals/bread/milk/butter to get you started). Nubeena has 2 grocery stores, a pharmacy, and a cafe to supplement your holiday. There's a wonderful historic Tasmanian story about the pears, apples, and Benjafield terrace if you pay attention. Gavin was very responsive and helpful to the ensuring the comfort of our large family - we're looking forward to staying with Lyn and Gavin again. From a NYC family transplanted to Hobart - we thank you.

Fabulous rural cottage
The family loved our autumn stay at Pear Cottage - character-filled and supremely comfortable, warm throughout with cosy beds, beautiful and private rural location only a short drive to amazing Tasmanian coastal destinations. Immaculately clean. Enjoyed breakfast on the balcony in morning sun, heated bathroom floor, and thoughtful hosts. A fabulous time, thank you!

What a delightful place to stay. Some might find it a bit remote and the driveway can be a little rough. However, the property is fantastic, clean, quite, well appointed. The owner is helpful and great to talk to. Location is ideal. 20 mins from Port Arthur, 5 mins from the supermarket, and 10 mins from the amazing White Beach. If you are staying here make sure to watch out for the wallabies and Pademelons coming out of the bush at dusk (do not feed them), and make a note to go out after dark with the lights off and look up at the stars.
