Some locations in northern Wisconsin have now gone over 30 days without precipitation. A combined lack of rainfall, low humidity and breezy conditions significantly increase fire danger this weekend and into the start of next week. On windy, dry days, embers from any fire, especially burn piles and campfires, can easily escape control and cause a wildfire if not properly extinguished.
The DNR has already responded to over 80 wildfires across Wisconsin in the past week, burning 182 acres, bringing the yearly total to 244 fires burning over 500 acres. The majority of these recent wildfires have been related to debris burning.
If you plan to spend time outside, the DNR asks you to avoid all outdoor burning, including debris burning and limiting the use of campfires and bonfires. Be sure to discard hot ashes from woodstoves or fireplaces in a metal container until cold. Outdoor enthusiasts should also use caution with any off-road vehicles or equipment that can create a spark and start a fire.
Due to current and forecasted conditions, the DNR is suspending annual burn permits in DNR protection areas across the northern two-thirds of the state. If your property is outside the DNR's jurisdiction, please check with local authorities before burning. Check the DNR's website to learn if your property is within the DNR's jurisdiction: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/forestfire/permits
Always check before you burn. Remember – fire danger and burning restrictions change every day.

A great place for families (and their pup). Our kids loved exploring the shoreline after a snowstorm-- they collected ice crystals and loved looking across the bay with the binoculars that were provided. A well stocked kitchen for big meals, this was a great stay!
We had a great time the property was spot on the description. Watching the sunrise in the morning off of the lake was breathtaking. We will definitely stay again when we are in that area if it is available. Communication with the host was prompt and very easy
Host was very responsive and accomodating before and during our visit. Home was clean and as described. Great yard. Relaxing lake. We hope to return next year for more fall colors.
It was a nice house and an even nicer property and location. This is a great place to stay for the solitude of nature and also a good jumping off point to explore everything Bayfield County has to offer. I wish there were 2 bathrooms but other than that I would definitely stay again.
Very nice home out in the middle of nowhere...with a great view. Highly recommend it if you want to get away. We had a wonderful quiet Thanksgiving staring out at the lake.
Peoperty owner communicated, was friendly. The property was clean, all of the appliances worked, plenty of hot water, and the property was just as advertised. The view from the deck is gorgeous and there is beach access.
Great place to relax. Kitchen has everything you need to cook if you don’t want to go out to eat. Comfy bed and clean. Great host responds right away. 5 plus stars
We had a wonderful time with our family visiting from abroad. The cabin surroundings are just beautiful in the fall and you have access to the beach also amazing. We are not early morning people and not having blackouts made it very difficult to sleep in in the morning. The shared spaces for the whole family are just perfect. The space has everything you need to enjoy meals and spend time together indoors
Rediscovered “Dolce far ninente “. The sweetness of doing nothing. The house IS BEAUTIFUL. windows to Lake Superior, windows to watch moon and stars. Upper deck, bench for just breathing. Huge lawn full of so many plants. Saw bears on walk, mom and her kids, no fright. Owners thought of everything down to dog towels. Walk down to lake ,shore breathtaking. Double rainbows. Will return. Owners very quick to reply to everything. An experience not to be missed.
If you enjoy lake life and the outdoors this is your place. The home was within driving distance to many beautiful beaches and the Apostle Islands. I would definitely recommend a truck during the winter months as the driveway may be an issue in deeper snow. We loved walking down the shoreline infront of the home. However, access to the water maybe an issue for the elderly as you have several steps to go down and the walking path is a bit steep. Our stay was a bit chilly the first night as you do not have access to the thermostat. However, after contact with the host the heat was adjusted. This issue will not affect our return.
First, the home and property is exactly as it appears in the pictures. You can get down to the shoreline via trail or stairway and there is sandy beach and rocky edges as you find on the North Shore of Lake Superior. There are many acres and you have complete privacy and seclusion. We were there for rest and relaxation and we didn’t see another soul, hear any road noise or any airplane flyover. The sunrises were spectacular.
We love doing fall color tours of the south shore of Lake Superior. As Minnesotans we had spent our lives doing only the north shore so this is our new fall tradition.
The home is dog-friendly which we appreciate and I know our German Shepherd had as good a time as we did. There was plenty of yard to chase her ball and do zoomies. She also went down to the lake to wade and bark at the waves, which was very unusual because she has been famously afraid of any water since we got her from shepherd rescue. This might have been the highpoint of our trip, her actually getting in water.
The home has excellent wifi reception and a smart tv with any app you want to sign in on so you won’t miss any sports. The house is spacious and comfortable and the kitchen has just about everything. As the host advises, bring the food and supplies you think you will need as shopping for groceries nearby is sparse.
Two restaurants to hit for sure are Poncho’s Tavern in Cornucopia (under new ownership) and Cranberry Over Superior in Herbster.
Wonderful get away! The property is beautiful with great access to the shore of Lake Superior. The house was comfortable and had all the amenities we could ever want.
Wonderful LARGE property right on Lake Superior. Very private with a huge and well-kept yard that we enjoyed. House was very clean and comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious and well stocked. Nice kitchen. If your looking for privacy and a beautifil view, this is for you.
Beautiful home in beautiful location!! Completely peaceful and quiet on Bark Bay of Lake Superior! The host is responsive to all questions asked, responding in record time. Thank you so much, Eileen!!!
Enjoyed the Property, views and the beach. even in the winter there was plenty to see and do. Very relaxing and comfortable stay. Would love to come back in summer
The property is very nice. The accommodations would have been better had it been cleaner on arrival. Having the fragrance free idea is nice but there were no cleaning supplies available in the event needed. ( including a broom and
Dustpan. )Additional note: all bathroom items were not fragrance free.
We needed a get away and wanted to be on
Superior. Found this home and it was everything we needed and more! Eileen's home is so inviting. And the views? They were spectacular. Watching the ice flows, swans, mergansers and sunsets was exactly what was needed. And the weather was perfect.
Our fur babies loved it just as much and all the exploring wore them out.
Spent many hours combing the beach looking for agates and sea glass.
Eileen is a wonderful host and always kept in contact with anything we needed. And based on our travel dates, was gracious and allowing us to arrive early. It was such a treat for us.
We will definitely be back!
