Weekend getaway to Hemsedal—a fantastic skiing holiday awaits
If you are planning a proper skiing holiday in Norway, there are not many places that can compete with Hemsedal. The ski resort is focused mainly on alpine skiing and has around 50 slopes and 20 lifts, so there should be no problem finding a slope that suits your skill level.
You can also travel to Hemsedal during summer, when the city is especially popular this time of the year with walkers and mountain bikers. The chairlifts can be modified so you can get your bike up the mountain in summer.
When you get to Hemsedal you will quickly realise that in many ways the ski resort is Hemsedal. The centre is small and has only a few supermarkets, shops, restaurants, nightclubs and hotels. The easiest way to get to Hemsedal is to drive. If you don’t have access to a car, the bus is the best option.
The majority of visitors go to Hemsedal to spend the weekend at the resort, called Hemsedal-Skistar. The resort is located a few kilometres west of the centre, so even if your hotel is in the downtown area it is still possible to get to the ski resort. Buy yourself a lift pass and enjoy a day on the slopes. If you’re lucky with the weather, your weekend will be fantastic.
However, a trip to Hemsedal also offers much more than just skiing. Go and see some of the great waterfalls in the area. Rjukandefossen is a double-barrelled waterfall with a fall of 18 metres and there are several pothole formations and a suspension bridge. There is also an area where you can swim in the summer. Hydnefossen is another waterfall in the area and has a drop of 140 metres. This destination makes a great day outdoors and a nice day trip with the family.
Hemsedal is the perfect place for those who want an active holiday, skiing or mountain biking. The modern ski resort has many lifts and varied slopes and is suitable for both experienced skiers and beginners. In winter après-ski is on at Stavkroa, Hemsedal Café and Bar(t)—good times guaranteed!
