We loved the quiet peaceful lake and the amazing deck and screened in porch at this property. We enjoyed the hummingbirds who came to the feeders the loon on the lake and the glimpses of a doe and twin fawns. Our dogs had amazibg swims and so did thd kids.
Near Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and the Kejimkujik National Park, the Blue Lodge at Hebbs Cross is a convenient place to explore Nova Scotia South Shore. This lakeside house is clean, well maintained and equipped, providing enough space for convivial stays with family or friends. For ease access to the Blue Lodge, renters may benefit the kind support of the housesitter.
We absolutely loved our time at the Blue Lodge. It had everything we needed for our two week stay. We enjoyed swimming in the lake, listening to the loons, and evening paddles on the canoe. We experienced the most incredible sunset our last night. Lots of summer memories made. Perfect vacation!
We could not have had a better trip, and wish we had booked for longer! The cabin was beyond well equipped, with everything we needed or wanted, including games, and puzzles. The separate bathrooms was perfect and the layout made it easy for us to stay up late outside while the kiddos slept. The caretaker Karin was very helpful as well and we had a great time.
This is a great base from which to explore the delights of Nova Scotia, as well as a perfect property to have a lazy day on the lake. We enjoyed swimming and canoeing every day, and even enjoyed the rain thanks to the massive sheltered area of the porch - very tranquil! The check-in process was super easy thanks to a very warm welcome from Karin who helped us navigate to the property - this was especially appreciated and generous given that it was dark out due to a delayed flight! Hope to be back soon!
Very warm welcome. Wonderful site, with a great view on the lake. Huge terrace, well appointed: sunbeds, BBQ, table for the meal, and veranda to protect us from the bad weather and mosquitoes. Well-equipped kitchen.
The only drawback: the last part of the unpaved access road to the house, very damaged and difficult for a berline.
We had a most enjoyable 5 day stay. House was everything we hoped for and locate on the beautiful lake was perfect for paddle boarding and canoeing and just enjoying the view from the huge deck.
The cottage is wonderful. Everything was included in the cottage. The lake was also very pretty. Unless, it was a bit far in the wood we spend a very good time in that region and we also enjoin the restaurants, and the golf course. Our host, Karin Halm, has been very kind giving us all kinds of information. Thank you Karin and Berthold.
The cottage was new, clean and comfortable. Karen was our on-site contact and was so warm and welcoming! Enjoyed the canoe and watching the hummingbirds. Would stay here again!
Very beautiful and well kept house on a Great Lake. Bald eagles, osprey, lions, geese and ducks every day. Chuckle the red squirrel would come up to door every morning to say high and get a couple of peanuts. Although the weather was typical or a Canadian Victoria Day weekend, we were always nice and warm and dry. Will definitely be returning.
Karin was amazing and very helpful. My son and I rode our Harley Davidson Road Kings from New York to Nova Scotia. The roads leading to the lake house are completely gravel but manageable if the motorcyclist has some experience with riding on loose material, which my son and our. We managed the gravel road well. We would definitely stay here again. We love the house.
The Blue Lodge is an absolute treasure. Secluded, spacious, and well-equipped, it sits directly on one of the cleanest, calmest, and quiet freshwater lakes you will find. And yet, you are less than 15 minutes away from civilization - the nearby city of Bridgewater has everything you will need, and you are very close to key Nova Scotia destinations including Lunenburg (home of the Bluenose) and Peggy's Cove, perhaps the most picturesque spot in Canada.
In our week at the Blue Lodge during a prime summer week we only saw one person on the entire lake, passing on a boat far away. It was like we had the whole lake to ourselves. It's a perfect swimming spot, and we made a daily routine of swimming to the nearby island and back.
Animal spotting is incredible here. We watched a bald eagle (yes!) bathe himself in the lake, dry himself in the sun, and then perch in a nearby tree. We found six nearby deer who seemed as interested in us as us in them. We saw a nearby fox while driving. Also a red squirrel, chipmunk, geese, and more.
The caretakers of the Lodge, Karin and Berthold, live nearby, helped guide us in-person to the Lodge, and helped explain the local waste collection as well as the workings of the lodge. They are incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional, and Karin who helped prepare the Lodge is apparently an immaculate cleaner - I've not seen a vacation property this clean on arrival, right down to freshly polished grills on the BBQ.
Highly, highly recommended!!
