The Getaway is a large free-standing home on about an acre lot. Originally built in 1950, so it is not brand new and has some interesting quirks and some transitions between rooms with a small step. The primary bedroom does have a private bath and walk-in shower and a jetted double tub, but both have steps to access them. We have a couple of caretakers who live nearby to take care of the grass and provide assistance should any emergency pop up that needs immediate attention. Book your escape today and make memories to last a lifetime.

Excellent place to enjoy 4 generations of my family. Plenty of space to play with my grandkids outside and games to enjoy on the inside. Very quiet neighborhood and plenty of privacy.
Overall nice house, big enough for the family to spread out and have their own space. Location was perfect and the neighbors were friendly. The house was clean but could use an overall deep clean.
The house is very big and accommodating. The yard and beach access was a major plus. There was a cockroach inside which was slightly off putting but not a huge deal. We requested sheets which they kindly provided. Communication was great and check in/out was seamless.
This home is very humble and cozy, which is to say, if you're into amenities and shiny things, it's not for you. We had (4) adults and (6) kids all in the rental, which had adequate spacing and sleeping arrangements, linens and towels all provided. It's a true weathered lake cabin, with canoe, fishing poles, and the likes. Wonderful family and friend memories made.
The house is older. There are several weird step ups in the house and none of us left without having stubbed our toes multiple times. The house was clean but could definitely use a deep clean sometime. It would not be ideal for the elderly and is not handicap accessible at all. The yard was great though very big and the views from the beach were very nice. The location is perfect if Yorktown, Jamestown and Williamsburg are where you are visiting. I would stay here again but would like it if the carpets were cleaner next time.
We enjoyed our stay. It was relaxed and enjoyable ! The only comments I would like to make for fix, not so much negative ! Water pressure in the showers was low, the back porch door closure jammed and we removed it, laid it on porch table to secure the door. Private beach alot of seaweed, kids not able to play in sand or water
Truly amazing stay! The house is terrific and a great place to be out of the way of the bustle, while still remaining close enough to nearby activities. Like i said, we were blown away by how much better the property is than the listing gives it justice!
It was a bit confusing to find the first time, as the number isnt displayed on the road. But if you have sharp eyes, you'll find it. If you want to swim, pay attention to what the tides are doing. But the water was amazing. Only true complaint: many of the windows were hard to operate, or almost completely inoperable. But this had an extremely limited impact on our enjoyment of our time there.
Check in and check out also super easy. Would stay again!

Riverfront Weekend Stay
The house really needs a deep clean, and some maintenance items need to be addressed. The kitchen was not well stocked with silverware, and there's a limited selection of cookware. None of the bathrooms had hand soap or hand towels, and we had to purchase kleenex and toilet paper. These are generally provided in VRBO rentals. There's not much room in the "living room", considering the number of bedrooms. The layout of the house is odd, broken up into small areas. Several of the flooring thresholds are trip hazards. The upstairs has a nice play area for kids. The kitchen is very large, with a large table and bar area. Double ovens was a plus. The view of the river is nice.We parked 4 cars without issue. The property shares a driveway and parking area with a neighboring rental. Our trashcan was full after a three night stay.
We mainly picked this property for the location, and we were mostly happy with that aspect of the stay. The property was convenient to Williamsburg and Busch Gardens while still being on the water. But there were neighboring properties very close by (literally sharing the lot), and while the neighbors were friendly, we didn't expect to be interacting with anyone. The house itself was quirky. The layout of the upstairs isn't ideal because you had to go through one of the bedrooms to access 2 other rooms, and our teens were not happy about that. There were also small steps up and down to all the rooms on the main floor, which we tripped on several times. And none of us were used to well water. Although we used the provided water cooler to drink, the smell of the well water made showering unpleasant, and we cooked with it at one point and the pasta was nearly inedible. And our friends complained that the upstairs bedroom with the queen bed, the mattress was very firm and uncomfortable, and the blinds would not close all the way so the sun woke them up early each day. These were all minor issues and some of us were more willing to overlook them than others, but my group would not choose to rent this property again if we were looking in the area.
There’s a lot about the property that isn’t described well in the post such as you’re next to another home where people rent long term-not only sharing a driveway.
The house is very “80s” and has some updates such as the kitchen floor but also has very old carpet along with mouse traps that still had the dead mice in them.
But the location and private beach is a plus and the house does comfortably sleep 8-10 people.
My BIGGEST concern with this property was that the host NEVER communicated with me after he received all the money for the rental AND the number on his site isn’t his, it sent me to some park service.
This was a big deal for us as we paid extra for linens only to show up and NONE were provided. Thank goodness we found the “emergency sheets” or we would be having to go purchase sheets.
Won’t be going back but it was perfect weather so we stayed outside on the beach all day long.
If you’re just looking for a place that’s only a shell with furniture to make food and you’re fine with bringing ALL your own things but want a private bay beach then this is the place!

We felt played
The house was large but needed to be cleaned more thoroughly. There was enough room for the 8 of, 4 kids and 4 adults.
The private beach was the ENTIRE reason we booked this house and the beach was unusable. The amount of seaweed made the beach impossible for us to enjoy. While I understand it washed up, there has clearly been so much built up that it wasn't all just from a day or two. The smells was horrible. We had to spend most of our time driving to find a beach all of us could enjoy.
When we arrived we panicked as one of the garage doors were open, and after a phone to call Greg it was explained that he had people renting the home that shared the driveway with this one. The renters were nice but we didn't appreciate the child asking as all about how long our stay was going to be, or if we were going to use the beach.
This home also needs upgrades. The TV in the playroom was very old and the DVD player was unfortunately broken so the kids couldn't use the TV. The toys in the room were nice though and we appreciated that. I wish the bedrooms or at least the other bigger one upstairs had a TV.
The air-conditioning worked but it was so inconsistent that none of us could be comfortable. The wifi also went in and out multiple times through the stay.
Greg was very responsive but we wish we felt less 'catfished' about this property, especially for the price.
Great location for a weekend spent at Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens! Awesome that we got to use the canoe! Also, really nice kitchen!
Perfect and peaceful waterfront home. Fabulous hosts. Close to historic triangle for convenience but far enough away that you can leave it all behind and just relax. One caveat for this house though. It wouls not be ideal for anyone with mobility issues because it has numerous steps and ledges. Other than that, it is heaven! Thank you so much for allowing us to be your guests.
