The whole house and garden will be yours to enjoy during your stay!
Step through the original entry doors - the same ones Harwich residents pushed open to send letters and parcels for nearly 80 years - and the history of the building hits you immediately.
The Old Post Office served this corner of Harwich Old Town from 1855 to 1934, before that a Victorian pub called the Dolphin House, and later a base for Trinity House, the authority responsible for England's lighthouses. Three lives in one building, and you can still feel all of them.
The main living space occupies what was the original Post Office floor - high ceilings, generous proportions, and an open plan layout that today holds a large dining table, a log burner, and a sitting area that invites you to stay longer than you planned. Two original doors lead through to the kitchen, which sits where the sorting office once was: a bright, well-equipped space looking out onto the private garden, ideal for cooking together on a summer morning or a rainy Essex afternoon. Downstairs also has a WC that retains much of its original character - original Post Office signage still in place, modernised just enough to be useful.
Upstairs, three spacious double bedrooms carry the proportions of a building that was never designed to be modest. Large windows look out over the rooftops and streets of Harwich Old Town, and two well-appointed family bathrooms serve the floor - one with a walk-in shower, the other with a shower-bath combination.
This converted period property sleeps 6 and sits in the heart of one of England's most overlooked historic ports. Walk to Harwich's working waterfront and historic docks, take a boat trip from the quay, swim at Dovercourt leisure centre pool, or hop on the Felixstowe ferry for a classic coastal day out. The train station is a short walk away, and there's off-street parking directly outside. What this place offers:
