We absolutely loved everything about the property and the town of Hartwell. This bungalow is perfectly located close to the heart of downtown, allowing you to walk, explore and enjoy restaurants, shops and kid friendly entertainment. We chose to stay here for our Clemson football weekend and it was absolutely perfect. It was a short commute to Clemson for the game and offered a ton more than the normal hotel experience. We definitely plan to come back!
My family and I thought the home was charming and in a great location; however, the air conditioning didn’t seem to cool the house enough for my family and I to be comfortable, especially in the evening when trying to wind down. Also, the hot water in the showers seemed to not get hot or even warm.
Location is wonderful and walking distance to the cute downtown area of Hartwell. We enjoyed a few restaurants there. The AC unit is very old and cannot keep up with the 100-year-old home. It never felt cool in the home when walking in from the heat outside. The second night, we had to sleep with 2 box fans and an oscillating fan pointed toward the bed to get any relief. It was 78 degrees in the home. I messaged the owner, and they know that the unit is old and have plans to replace it. I would not stay here again during the summer until the AC is replaced.
The Blue Rose home was well-decorated and full of amenities. The clawfoot tub in the master bathroom was such a treat! Our ONLY complaint is that It was a hot weekend and the A/C was not working. We easily communicated with the host to figure out what the problem could be. After being hot for too long and the troubleshooting not working, the host offered to send out maintenance but said it would take appx. 2 hours for them to get there--it was already close to 9pm so we declined the offer. We appreciated the attentiveness and effort to remedy the problem.
Like I said, the home was lovely and in a great location. We will stay again if we can be assured that the A/C works consistently.
A beautiful home within walking distance of the town center. Very quiet neighborhood. The heat wasnt working but the home owner provided us with lots of space heaters to keep us warm
Great weekend getaway with the hubby! House was adorable, clean and within walking distance to downtown Hartwell! Fun visiting the brewery and shops and a quick drive to the lake! Great back porch and loved having access to a treadmill! Can’t wait to go back!
Great stay and easy walk to downtown Hartwell for eating and shopping. The house is from 1896 and has alot of character. The rooms were large and plenty of space to spreadout for my wife and I traveling with our adult daughter. The kitchen was great and had everything we needed as we prepared several meals there during our 5 days/4 night stay. Loved sitting on the andorondic chairs on the front porch in the morning before it got too hot, sipping on coffee and reading my book. House was a close drive to everything we needed, interstate, Clemson, Lake Hartwell, the dam and wedding venue in SC. Communication with the owner was responsive and honest. Would stay here again when in the area.
Great overall, need a little work on the hot water heater, still limited from last visit to 2-3 mins

This house was beautiful, clean and nicely decorated and equipped. The problem was it has No central heat. 3 small electric heaters and 12 ft ceilings it was so cold we couldn’t stay there. Michelle was very responsive but refused to give us our money back. There was an ice storm on the way and would have been much colder and loosing power was a big deal. We did have a generator with us but you couldn’t find propane tanks. She offered more blankets. The 3 small heaters weren’t big enough to warm 1 bedroom.
We had a wonderful stay at this charming historic mill house in downtown Hartwell! The location is FANTASTIC — just a short walk to great restaurants, coffee shops, and local boutiques, which made exploring the area super convenient. The house itself is full of character and smartly decorated. The mattresses were extremely comfortable — we all slept so well. One of the bedrooms did get a little warm in the late afternoon, but it cooled off nicely in the evening and was very comfortable for sleeping. This was mentioned in other reviews, but was not a problem for us (we stayed in September). The host was excellent — great communication from start to finish, and we really appreciated the thoughtful touches like the coffee maker stocked with pods, cream, and sugar. It made our mornings so much easier!Highly recommend this cozy spot if you're looking for a unique, comfortable stay with easy access to everything Hartwell has to offer.
Clean and cozy in a great location walking distance to the heart of Hartwell!
From the first communication to the last, this host was awesome! We needed an early check-in prior to an event and there was no hesitation in accommodating our request. The house was cozy and clean with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Be aware that this host does not give access to the thermostat and it was set to 73 and locked for access. This made for a "hotter than hoped for" sleeping experience for us and our friends. Other than that, we had a great time and a wonderful visit at the Blue Rose and Lake Hartwell!
The bungalow was beautiful. We do have a couple of suggestions: 1) Mini blinds or curtains at the windows in the kitchen and living room areas. Bed linens were provided for someone to sleep on the living room sofa, but I would not be comfortable sleeping there because there were no coverings on the windows and there was much traffic on the street and walkers along the sidewalk. 2) Some type of holder for soap, shampoo, etc in master bath shower.
