AMAZING!!!!
My family (my mom, 2 sons aged 15 and 26), my boyfriend, my son's girlfriend, and I stayed last week. This home is nothing short of amazing. The location is far enough from town that it is not loud or busy, but close enough to get what you need without a lot of hassle. The home itself was immaculate and everything you will need is available. We cooked 2 nights and every morning for breakfast and everything that we needed was available in the kitchen to prepare our meals. The rooms are spacious and the layout is such that you can enjoy privacy when needed. The view is to die for. My children fished off of the dock and we did snorkel from there. We saw sting rays and had a turtle that kept us company every day while we were there (we named him Samuel) and he likes to eat squid. There was also a small nurse shark that hung out one day. We were able to rent a boat and go to some of the sandbars that are closeby and I cannot decribe the beauty. We were also close enough to go to Chat N Chill for a while one day by boat. Definitely rent a car so you can get to dinner and the market because it is about a 20 min ride into town. Overall, if i could give 10 stars, I wouldn't hesitate. The owners were always available (I communicated with Monica on multiple occasions, she always responded very promptly, answered all questions, and we were greeted at the home upon arrival. Definitely worth every penny!

Magical time with friends and family
We loved our stay at the Mandarin House. It was perfect for a group of long time friends. Everybody had both space to get away and a great family spaces to get together. We cooked together, hung out by the pool and explored the island. Monica made excellent recommendations for activities, services and restaurants. The staff is great too, they came by frequently to check on things and make sure we had gas for the grill, towels and supplies. I would recommend that they get new paddles for the paddle boards. Overall we had a great time.

Beautiful island, lovely people!
Beautiful spot, super convenient, lovely people. Groceries easy to find. Kitchen perfect for food prep and group meals. Sitting by pool lovely. We had some challenges with the ac units smelling of mold due to lack of use, bleaching prior to guests arrival would solve that.

The house was absolutely perfect!! Monica had fast, excellent communication from the time we booked through check out. We hired a Chef Keva to cook our meals which is an excellent way to fully enjoy your vacation. We loved hanging out at the bar area after a long day on the water. The dock was perfect for our boat rental drop off where we explored Moriah Cay and then spent the afternoon at Chat n Chill. A short drive to Tropic of Cancer Beach which might be the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. We had a lovely dinner at Blu on the Water, a short drive from the property. I would highly recommend the Swimming with the Pugs All Day Tour (Staniel Cay). So much fun! It also includes a stop to see endangered Iguanas, swimming with Nurse Sharks, snorkeling Thunderball Grotto, and lunch at Staniel Cay Yacht Club. Would absolutely stay here again!

Birthday/Anniversary Getaway
The perfect place for 2 couples. It was great-each couple had their own space in the evening but we ate breakfast together in the main house each morning and gathered to play cards and just hangout. We were there in September and there were not a lot of restaurants that were open so we did a lot of cooking in the evening as well. Would definitely recommend.

Great week in paradise
We stayed in The Mandarin for a week in July. It was amazing! Great location as long as your ok being outside of town (which we were)! Only minutes from Forbes Hill (highly recommend). We rented a boat for three days and it was wonderful having it to visit places like Chat N Chill, Hoppers Bay and Starfish Beach. The dingy was used the other days and it worked great while we were there. We fished and snorkeled right off the dock. The house was plenty big enough for our group of 11 (6 adults, 5 kids with one being a toddler that slept in the crib included with the house). There were minor issues that Monica addressed appropriately. The property could use some freshing up (like a new dining table- it was on the verge of breaking while we were there) and some additional kitchen supplies (like cookie sheets)…minor things in the grand scheme. It was a dream vacation with our family and we made memories that will live on forever!!

The Mandarin House Is Magical!
We loved our stay at the Mandarin. Monica met us in Georgetown and we followed her to the property where she gave us a helpful tour. During the week, she was very easy to get a hold of and helped us with any questions we had. The property itself was beautiful and charming (it is more of a "campus"). Our teenager stayed in the small apartment on her own and she appreciated her own space. The main house has the kitchen, main living and dining area, a wonderful laundry room, and another king bedroom ensuite with a huge closet with a crib. There was lots of room to unpack and fold/hang clothes. The other house had a big room with a large bed + bunkbed where our 9 and 10 year olds stayed on their own which was perfect. Another couple with their 2 year old stayed in the other king bedroom ensuite, which was large and comfortable. This second complex also has what I would call an "entertaining" room with a hibachi grill (we did stirfry one night), a bar window and seating, a very cold fridge perfect for beer, and fun musical instruments. The pool was fun for the kids and the dock had a dinghy, paddleboards and kayaks. There was snorkle gear to use which we kept in our trunk all week because you will want it when exploring all the beaches. The location was perfect. . . close to the grocery, gas and shops in Georgetown. The kitchen at Mandarin was well stocked for cooking. The Forbes Hill beach 8 minutes away was our favorite! We would recommend the Mandarin 10/10!

Enjoyable vacation
Nice home with good amenities. Plenty of space to spread out or spend time together as a large group. Enjoyed cornhole, the pool, paddle boarding, the dinghy (once the engine was swapped out), the hibachi grill, and swimming off the dock. Communication with the property manager was excellent and the small issues that popped up were addressed quickly. Small repairs are needed, like tightening the cabinets and securing the dishwasher. We had a wonderful time and would visit this property again.

Can’t beat the location
The location was exactly what we were looking for. The house is a little worn and not as clean as I keep my own house but it didn’t bother us and we would go back. It had everything we needed to have a enjoyable vacation. Hands down our favorite vacation yet. The dingy boat is unreliable so definitely take 2 paddles out when you go out. Monica was very responsive and helped us plan all the details. Take the trip!

Must Stay
We could have easily stayed in a resort, but we are so happy we elected to stay at the Mandarin. Such a neat property with a lot to do! We went with two families (9 total people; 4 adults and 5 children ranging from 8-15), and everyone had plenty of space and privacy. At the same time, we were able to hang out in the main living space whenever we were home. We loved paddle boarding and kayaking across the bay to Moriah Harbour Cay. It only took 35 minutes to an hour to get to the opposite side of the island for excursions. The moment we arrived Monica made us feel welcomed! Her exact words were, “Let the kids have fun, they are in the Exumas!” We made great memories and recommend this location to anyone looking for the perfect spot to vacation with family and friends!

Wonderful Stay at Mandarin House!
Moriah Cay is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and staying at the Mandarin House was the perfect place to take it all in. We were a party of eight that travels to Exuma every year at the beginning of March. This year was the first time we rented a house and it couldn't have worked out better. Mandarin House is lovely and worked out comfortably for all of us. We had plenty of room to gather together as a group or spend apart for quiet time. The kitchen is large and provides a nice area to cook and prepare meals. The terrace is perfect, and the pool was a delight. We rented a boat from Drexel for six days and couldn't be more satisfied. Overall, thumbs up for a wonderful, relaxing, and beautiful place to stay when visiting Moriah Cay and Exuma.

Nice play to stay
This was a great place to stay for three couples. We all had separate spaces as the house is laid out with each bedroom in separate areas. The main house had a nice large living area and big dining table. The outside bar and hangout areas were great too. A couple things to note...two bedrooms are en-suite, but the third had to go outside to enter their bathroom. There is the main house that has one big bedroom with a full bath. Then there is the bar area...it has one bedroom behind the bar (facing the front of the house with bunk beds (their bathroom is outside, on the other side of the bar, so great for when hanging outside and for the kids in the bunkroom. Then on the other side of that bath is another en-suite bedroom that faces the pool/ocean. If you want to boat anywhere other than the sandbars across the way, you def need to rent a boat. Someone was complaining about the boat that was available...their review was completely unsupported. It's a dingy...it's not made for far travel. If you arrive on a Sunday, def take advantage of groceries being delivered to the house...the grocery wont be open until Monday so you def want some food for potentially dinner and breakfast the next day. Nitza, who provides the massages, and her co-masseuse were AMAZING!! We hired Chef Keva to come cook dinner for our group one night. It was the best meal we had on the island and it was reasonably priced. Plus, they were both lovely ladies.

Not our cup of tea
We had high hopes that the Mandarin House would open up a new part of the island for my family ( 5 adults, 4 kids(5-12). The hope was we could walk the beach at Moriah Harbour Cay on a daily basis and I could fish for bonefish near the house. While we could it was not an easy trip. The five minute dingy ride to Moriah Harbour Cay required it to be hide tide unless you didn't mind pulling the dingy 75 yards through shallow water and it also required a working dingy. Additionally, the direct route to the beach required either multiple trips in the dingy ( 2 adults and 2 kids at a time) or some people to paddleboard or kayak. Plus the walk to the beach required hauling things over the island on rocky ground and a 100 yard walk through a watery mucky mogul area before getting to the beach area. The beach is very beautiful equal to Coco Plum or Tropic of Cancer beaches as a way of comparison. The house itself was in fair shape but could have used a deep cleaning. Also, the three separate buildings that housed the 4 bedrooms made it not feel like a family gathering but more like a hotel stay with everyone heading to there bedrooms after dinner. This was due to the limited seating in the "living room" area and also due to the no-see'm that appear in the evening on the calm night so no outside seating. The dock usually had a breeze so it worked well for night time gathering and star gazing. We met Jonas who replaced the dingy's motor after our first day out on the water. The motor died coming back from my first trip to the Cay. Poor Jonas and his assistant paddled the boat back in a constant 15+mph wind from the swim platform I left it at which was at a house 1 mile away( I had to walk back to the house). Jonas also returned twice more to get the new motor working after what appeared to be operator errors. Once due to vent cap somehow was closed and the second when the gas line valve somehow was turned to the off position. Both of these operator errors happened after the dingy was up and running on the water and the engine quit in mid trip. Not fun trying to paddle a dingy in the wind as Jonas and I can contest to. I can not recommend the house for a group of 5 adults and 4 kids unless you want to be separated. I also can not recommend the location for accessing Moriah Harbour Cay unless you area seasoned dingy operator or like to paddleboard or kayak in the wind. I did not attempt to catch bonefish from the house.

Response from VrboOwner on 21 Feb 2023
Dear David, We appreciate you staying with us at the Mandarin and are sorry for the repeated issues you had operating the dinghy. I hope your trip was enjoyable outside of those issues and you still got to enjoy all the goodness of Exuma. With that said, this is the first time in all the years I've owned this house I, the owner, feel compelled to respond to a review. I do so to clear up some of the items raised for future guests. The Mandarin is one of the most rented and highest rated properties in Exuma and we work both proactively and quickly to resolve issues when they come up. Regarding the dingy: The property is surrounded by dozens of beaches and sandbars to explore, many of which are shown in the website photos. We include an indestructible Whaly 310 dingy and engine, as an amenity at no charge to the guests, to help access all the best spots in the area. The dinghy can be used regardless of the tides when used properly. We also recognize guests have varying levels of boating experience so we actually have 3 different engines on property so we can switch them out quickly if we have issues. Many guests choose to rent a boat from a local operator when they stay at the house. A boat is the best option for trying to explore further away islands as the dinghy is not meant for long trips with lots of people. Regarding Moriah Cay: As shown in the property photos, including the second photo on the listing, Moriah Cay is a beautiful national park located across the harbor from the property. It has several incredible beaches that can be accessed many ways. The easiest is a short dingy ride from the house's dock, as shown in many of the property photos. Regarding the layout: As shown in the property photos and description, the property consists of multiple structures with bedrooms in each building. Many guests prefer this structure as multiple families can all have their own sleeping space. Regarding the no-see'ms: As with most Caribbean islands, the Bahamas has sand flies and mosquitos that can come out at night during periods of low wind. We usually have bug spray at the house for guest use.

The Perfect Vacation
We had an amazing time in Exuma! The Mandarin House is beautiful and is great for families with multiple units. Monica was wonderful and available for all questions and stocked the house with groceries ahead of our arrival. She also provided very useful information regarding car rentals, excursions, etc. prior to our arrival which was so helpful! We had a delicious catered meal from Nola our first night which was wonderful. She even offered to hold our baby while we ate. We rented a boat from Daphne with Exclusive Boat Rentals and her crew delivered it and picked it back up! We loved using it to explore around Moriah Harbor. We had a great time on a private charter with Exuma Watersports. We are already planning our next trip back!

Perfect home and location
Monica is amazing to work with from the time of booking to arrival to our stay and departure. She was quick to answer any questions and is very warm and friendly. She made us feel right at home when we got there. We stayed here with 2 families and one couple. The property consists of 3 houses. Which gave us plenty of space and privacy if needed. The main house has a master bedroom with full crib, full kitchen, dining, living room, laundry, 1 1/2 bath. The house with the hibachi music bar (extra fridge and ice maker) has 2 bedrooms with separate entrances and 2 baths. The third house has a bedroom and bath. The kids loved the pool and jumping off the deck. I loved the aesthetics of it all. The dock was where we started our mornings and ended our nights. We saw turtles, plethora of fish, sharks(only one night), stingrays swim by and several shooting stars. We snorkeled near our dock and found lots of starfish, spent some time moving them to right next to the dock enjoyed seeing them for a couple days slowly moving away. Dingy over to the islands across from us and searched for natural wonders. Saw more starfish but a different kind, sand dollars, pretty shells. We also rented a boat and was able to dock it at the house. This was our 4th time to Exuma and this is my favorite house we’ve stayed in so far. The house also has a generator which is great for when the island goes out. This time we had several outages but it didn’t bother us Bc the whole house generator kept us going. I would highly recommend staying here. It’s the perfect home base. House also comes with plenty of coolers ranging from small to large, plenty of beach towels, fishing rods, kayaks, paddle boards, and basics like dish soap, dishwasher detergent, bath soap, paper towels, spices.

Great stay at the Mandarin
Communication was good with Monica and Jonas. The dinghy was very useful to explore the nearby cays. The property is spacious and air conditioning worked great. If I knew how beautiful exumas was we would have stayed a couple more days. The small invisible bugs are a very big nuisance. Some people in our party had over 100 bites even with bug spray. We rented a boat delivered to the dock for the day which is highly recommended to explore furthur out. Monica arranged a catered meal by Nola and it was the best meal of our trip.

Amazing Stay at the Mandarin
We were completely pleased with our stay at the Mandarin. The property was clean and as described. It exceeded our expectations for two families with nine family members. The location was very safe and perfect for us. There isn't a lot around so we had Monica stock us well with provisions upon our arrival. Monica was amazing and so accommodating. She responded promptly to any questions that we had. Can't say enough great things about her. The view was gorgeous and we swam off of the dock everyday! We had amazing massages from Nitsa on the deck. Wow! We rented a boat from Drex for 3 days. A must! We were so happy that we did! He showed us around to the beautiful sandbars and the way to get to Chat and Chill. We loved our boat and he was fantastic! One day we also rented a boat from Theo to go further out to Swim with the Pigs. What a great day! Everyone loved it! Theo, EJ and Stewie were awesome. Highly recommend! I only wish our stay was 2 weeks instead of 1!! You will not meet nicer people! A huge Thank You to everyone for your Exumian hospitality!!! Until we meet again!

This beautifully located property is well kept and managed. Had a small issue with the AC and Monica responded instantly. Being up in our years, the small boat that comes with house was too hard to get on due to the height of the dock but any younger physically able person could take advantage. We rented a larger boat and kept at dock where there was a ladder to access it. The property was not disappointing and pictures accurate. Highly recommend.

Very nice place. The location allows boating even with high winds. While the folks near Georgetown weren’t even renting boats due to wind, we were cruising to the lazy river and to the nicer location we called the hook. Defiantly need a rental car as restaurants are a good distance away. Our favorites were Shirley’s at the fish fry where the staff were great and so was the food, and the rusty anchor if you are feeling fancy( but prices are similar to the more authentic places. Also be aware that places don’t open and close at the times you would expect. If you try to go to dinner at 7 or 8 you will be disappointed. The house was well appointed with everything you could want. Even had a full spice cabinet.

Paradise!!!!!
We chose this property to take our kids and grandkids on a family trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary. The accommodations more than met our expectations. The view of the harbor took our breath away each and every day! Pictures truly cannot capture the beauty of the crystal blue shades of the water and the whitest sand we've ever seen. The beds are very comfortable so we were well well rested to play ALL day. Two refrigerators to keep all of your food and " essential beverages" nice and cold😉 A well stocked kitchen/ living room combo and teppanyaki grill / bar area were great locations for everyone to hang out mornings and evenings. The pool, dock, kayaks and dinghy were great to have as well as the swing and hammock. This property has a nice resort feel without all of the walking. We had delicious dinners cooked for us by Cleo and Nola and took two amazing boat trips arranged by Theo from Tours r Us. Highly recommend you do the same!!! Rest assured that if problems arise, they will be addressed quickly by Monica and the super nice property owner, Chris. We would definitely return. Book this property!

Beautiful views and outdoor living in Hartswell
We enjoyed our recent stay at the Mandarin House. The property has a great outdoor area and bar which was perfect for our group. Our first attempt at making pizza in the outdoor pizza oven was also a success! The views from the property are phenomenal. The property consists of three separate buildings and is a great set-up for multiple couples or families. We enjoyed seeing the sea turtles and rays right from the dock. The only drawbacks were a lack of lights in the kitchen area which made dinner prep a bit interesting and the master bathroom seemed very dated compared to the other bathrooms at the property. This was our 5th visit to Exuma and we never grow tired of the beautiful Exuma blues.

7 of us stayed here, wonderful property, snorkeling Igor off the dock:)
Quick boat ride over to secluded beach! No beach on site but, quick drives to local beautiful beaches! Not a lot of clear signs where beaches are… so do some research!!!👍😬 Drive SLOW!!!!watch for POTHOLES will KILL your rental car!!😂😂😂

Great Stay
The property and location on Exuma are absolutely beautiful and exactly what we were looking for. We'd love to return! The owner was very responsive to our needs and making sure we were happy, which goes a long way as well.

Great Experience
The place was as advertised absolutely beautiful and secluded. Had a beach with power white sand and the most clear water on a 1.5 mile beach to ourselves. house was great and had everything we needed to have a self contained vacation. During this pandemic we could not ask for more. Hostess Monica was great. Rented boat for 2 days and did 2 half day bonefishing trip with Drex. Great Guide and nice knowledgeable guy. Would highly recommended to any of my friends or family.

Location location!
This is the best area On the island in our opinion for a family vacation. Calm water, access to a boat dock, gorgeous Moriah cay! House is a great layout for multiple families and the pool is a great add. Definitely rent a boat from drex to explore Elizabeth harbor. Love the mandarin!!

Amazing stay and an amazing property!
This was our first trip to the island and we will definitely be back! This house was perfect for 4 couples. We had our own space, but still able to get together. The pool was amazing to relax around, while the sandbars and snorkeling along the piers was great! Monica was so helpful! We can’t wait to go back!
