A charming glimpse into vacationing in Maine nearly a century ago (with all th emodern creature comforts). A beautifully sited, secluded historical home on a particularly pretty part of the Blue Hill Peninsula. Our kids loved it!
This property was so much more than what we expected, a beautifully maintained true Maine summer camp. Board games and binoculars, views of the skies and seas, a perfect place to unplug and be present. Maine, the way life should be, relaxed and unhurried. Pictures can’t do this home and location justice, if your goals are family time and relaxation this is your rental.
Wonderful repeat visit to this beautiful cottage. The view can’t be beat, and although it is a bit remote, we find the location just perfect for our needs!
Nice rustic cottage in a great location with amazing trails on property. Cape Rosier is a gem. We had a wonderful stay. Kitchen is simple but very well equipped. Only downside for us was no grill, though that may be due to fire hazard.
This is our absolute favorite place. We could not ask for anything more of a summer respite. The woods and water are beautiful and the cottage is just perfect for our family of 5.
We’ve been to Acadia in the past and were turned off by the crowds and the traffic. This was a great stay for two seniors. We ate well, slept well and spent as much time as we wanted exploring. Recreational gear is available to rent nearby and, if we go again, we’ll be sure to rent a kayak and get out on the water.
The cottage was remote, rustic, and had a wonderful view from the deck and from every window. The kitchen was basic but extremely well equipped. At some rentals, one is lucky to have a vegetable peeler and a scratched teflon frying pan. This cottage had nicer All-Clad pans than I have in my own kitchen. Imagine having a microplane in the utensil holder! And a good coffee pot and coffee grinder. The cottage was also well supplied with all paper products. The bed was very comfortable with nice bed linens. And did I mention the view?!?
As a cottage that has had 5 generations of family staying there over the years, we felt honored to share in that experience.
Unique Treasure Set Amongst Old Forest and Perched Atop Rocky Coast off of Penobscot Bay
We had our desired two weeks in the Cottage at Red Point, our third consecutive year renting a place that more than fits our very specific amenities (and/or lack thereof).
Books - old and new - covering nearly every subject are placed everywhere, as are a myriad of treasures collected by the generations of the families who have grown up there.
The three bedrooms all have magnificent views of the Bay beyond the scattering of trees; watching the sun rise from 'my' bed had me up and outside, debating on whether to 'chill' on the deck (overlooking the Bay, of course), settling down in one of the 'nooks' at the edge of the rocks, or wandering along a trail that rivals the nearby Holbrook Island Sanctuary.
We love the living room, which runs the length of the front of the cottage, also offering unbeatable water views. A large fireplace, with a seemingly endless supply of firewood, adds a crackling ambiance in the evening.
We love the fully equipped spacious kitchen and the wonderful long table with a view of the dock, through the woods.
The owner stopped by at the end of our stay, as usual, to see how everything was, and we gave him a glowing report and expressed our hopes to rent next year.
It's a magical place.
The cottage couldn’t be more perfect— cape rosier is beautiful and the house nestles in the woods and is wonderful in all respects. This was our second year on the property and we love it.
One of the most beautiful places we have ever visited!
We had a wonderful week here. It was breathtaking to get such a beautiful view of the ocean from almost everywhere you walk, sit or lie down!
We spent a ton of time on the front porch just playing games, watching the ocean and enjoying good drink.
The brave souls amongst us dared to jump off the dock into the cold water a few times. We saw lots of fish, what we thought was a dolphin and a sea lion. There was also an eagle that we watched all week who literally sailed right by the front porch and perched on a tree right in front of the porch! It was breathtaking.
The beach and all the paths held endless hours of exploring to find so much life and so many secret places to sit and take it all in.
We did have to do a major sweep up of the floor when we arrived. There was a lot of dust/dirt/pine needles all over the first floor but we used the stuff there and had it done quickly. It doesn't take any time at all to track stuff in because you're literally in the woods all the time.
We loved it and would love to go back again some day. It reminded us of all the McCloskey books I read to my children - a magical summer vacation in Maine. Thanks so much for sharing it!!!

A Maine Cottage with Everything we Wanted, and More!
The Cottage was/had everything we wanted: privacy, seclusion, breathtaking views, waterfront, trails to hike, a very private beach, as well as a large, long beach (at low tide). Although secluded, Blue Hill is only 15-20 minutes away, for large food shopping, medications, dining, art galleries, a wonderful library, etc.
Aside from food and meds, we couldn’t have a better place for dining, art, and certainly not a library, as the Cottage has books everywhere on everything and from many eras.
The furniture in the Cottage ranged from Dansk/IKEA to Stickley style to ca 1930s sturdy bureaus to a wonderful comfy glider- everything in the house was comfy and practical and logical. Juliet Child would have loved the kitchen: I can imagine her distinctive voice exclaiming delight as she discovered cabinets that held everything a great chef (and/or a passable family member) could want to create memorable dishes. And if one forgot a recipe or wanted to try something new to the family, of course there was a ‘Joy of Cooking’, ca 1939?, that I used when I had a group of foods I wanted to put together.
There are lots of games to play on rainy days (we didn’t have any) 😊 and displays of fantastic ‘found’ objects through beach combing or wandering around their property.
One week was hardly enough, so we’re hoping for two next year; and who knows, maybe we could stretch it to three weeks.
A fabulous vacation!

On the water & away from it all
An idyllic place to decompress! This cottage is vintage 1930's with all the modern amenities that make your stay easy. We enjoyed hot coffee on the deck every morning watching the boats, fish & even a few porpoises. The rocky Maine shoreline is absolutely beautiful, we fell asleep to the soft sound of the waves as the tide came in and out. There's lots of great hiking nearby and were out kayaking every day, but still found time to relax in the hammock with a good book and complete several of the puzzles the cottage has to offer.
The road up the hill to the cottage is steep and narrow, making it difficult if you have anything in tow, and there is a cabin next door, but the orientation allows for a lot of privacy. The moss lined paths around the cottage and down to the dock are magical.
Allen was great to work with and helped make our stay a really easy, wonderful week. We'd happily return again!
