Friendly staff and close to the gondola are the best things I can say about this place. Pretty expensive for what you get, but not surprising given the limited number of hotels in Gulmarg. I think they had cancellations since the snow was lacking, so the hotel was nearly empty... which is one of the reasons I think they never really turned the heat on! Each night I'd ask, and each night I was told that it would be on shortly. But the radiators in the room were always cold to the touch. They did provide an electric blanket and janky old space heater so I didn't freeze. But not warm, what with it being at 2700m elevation in the middle of the winter! The restaurant was pretty lacking too, I'm guessing in part because the hotel was empty? The 5 or 6 page menu was actually limited to a handful of choices, most of which were overly salted. I finally gave up and just asked what they actually had available, since that was easier. I talked with other skiers that week and heard about their cold hotels too, so it seems that saving money by not cranking up the heat is a common theme in Gulmarg. I will return to Gulmarg someday just because the mountain is amazing and worth the hassle. But I'd choose a different hotel within walking distance to the gondola, one far cheaper since, except for the Khyber, they're all pretty much the same.
