Well located but aging hotel

Posted 24-Sep-2016
The Carleton George has a great location and the free mini bar is a nice touch, but this hotel is also showing its age. We had an inside facing room. The ordinary room temperature when we stayed there in September was too hot. The only realistic option to cool the room was the air conditioning, which even at its lowest setting, made it too cold. It would have been nice to simply rely on the open window, but that meant listening to the 50-60 decibel ongoing sound of some machinery in the courtyard. A sink that was very slow to drain added to the discomfort.

Freundlich, sauber, aber sehr warm

Posted 19-Sep-2016
Pros: Personal, Zimmerausstattung
Cons: Zimmer waren extrem warm, obwohl die Klimaanlage lief
Location: Sehr zentrale Lage, mitten im Geschehen
Freundliches & Hilfbereites Personal; Sauberes Zimmer, Minibar kostenlos (all-inclusive), Gute Ausstattung, sehr bequemes Bett, Einziger Minuspunkt: Das Zimmer war sehr warm, obwohl die Klimaanlage lief.

Good find in a good location

Posted 13-Sep-2016
Cons: Check-in when arriving by car - there should be a drive-up area right in front of the hotel with a valet.
Location: Perfect locations for walking or taking the subway around Glasgow. Premium shopping and sightseeing is in the immediate vicinity.
We checked in on a rainy afternoon and the manager, Mark, came out across the street to help with the bags. He helped with every part of the check-in experience when the front desk staff was otherwise occupied, which impressed me. The rooms were very nice, the bathroom was comfortable, and the location of the hotel was perfect for walking around Glasgow. Overall, a really nice experience.

Location: Handy to the square, transit station and center city.
The lounge for guests was especially notable: stocked with snacks, beer, wine, soft drinks...free 24/7! A very unusual perk.

Great hotel, great location.

Posted 04-Sep-2016
Pros: Staff, location, open bar.
Outstanding location for train travel. The hotel staff was one of the friendliest and most helpful I have encountered in my travels. One of the desk clerks had even been called in on her day off to help with staffing but she was still extremely pleasant and helpful. Apparently there was a problem with the air conditioning while we were there so there was an open bar in the lounge. The weather was so pleasant with the windows open we didn't even notice but the free beer and liquor was appreciated. I'd highly recommend the Carlton George if you find yourself in Glasgow.

Average hotel at best

Old hotel that shows its age. Air conditioning was not operational. Cannot drive to hotel front door due to restrictions (taxi and bus only) . Hotel does not have parking. Rooms are old carpets worn, aged furnishings etc.

The rooms are tastefully decorated and are clean. The bathrooms are large with plenty of amenities provided. The Front Desk staff were helpful and courteous. I enjoyed staying at this hotel.

Great Location

Posted 14-Aug-2016
Pros: Location, decor, staff, most everything
Cons: Would rather have a proper double bed than a "king" that's 2 twins pushed together
Location: Buchanan Street, Queen Street station, George Square
I stayed for 2 nights with little agenda other than to wander the city and get over jet lag. The location is great, just off Buchanan and near the Queen Street station and George Square. The room was nicely furnished, though in such an old building with small elevator and corridors, I should have known that a king bed would be two twins put together, and it wasn't the most comfortable. I think that's my only complaint. The window looked out on an internal atrium, which meant it was a little dim but also quieter than being on the street. I don't drink, but the minibar was all complementary, which was unexpected. The staff was great; due to aforementioned jet lag, I called down and asked for my morning tea at about 5 AM, and they brought it cheerfully, and I don't think they even charged me for it. Breakfast was very good and I got a significant discount by choosing in at check-in -- it only cost £9 instead of £14, and I didn't regret committing to it. Nice view over the rooftops, too, from the restaurant. Also, there's a great pub right off the lobby. Overall, I was pleased and would consider staying again, though I'd ask about the bed.
