In der dichten Waldwildnis - ohne asphaltierte Straßen und von wenigen Holzwegen durchzogen - wurde die Gletschermühle erst 1952 durch Erwin Litzelmann entdeckt und frei gelegt. Namensherkunft "Krai" bedeutet: Laut sein, Schreien. Hochdeutsch verwand ist "Krähen". Hier ist aber mehr "lautes Rauschen" gemeint. Auf vielen Landkarten steht heute noch "Kleiner oder Klai-Wooggumpen": eine Umdeutung der preußischen Landvermesser die auch aus dem benachbarten "Turbenmoos" ein "Taubenmoos" machten, da sie nicht wussten, dass Torf alemannisch "Turben" heißt. "Woog" bedeutet Wasserfall. Hochdeutsch ist die "Woge"= größere Welle damit verwandt. "Gumpen" bedeutet als Verb "springen", "hüpfen" ( "ein Frosch gumpt ins Wasser"). Als Substantiv ist "Gumpen" ein Becken, sprachlich verwandt ein "Tümpel", in welches Wasser hinein fällt bzw. sich dort sammelt. Beides trifft hier zu.
