Secluded And Stylish Rural Retreat Close To The Hills And The Bright Lights

Family-friendly cottage in Glasgow
The Kist is an ideal way to get away from it all. It is set in 6.5 acres of garden and grounds and surrounded by fields. It is entirely self-contained and no-one will visit unless you invite them. Our house is 100m down the garden from The Kist. We work from home so will usually be around if you need us, but otherwise will leave you to enjoy your stay. It is 3.5 miles from the nearest village (Balfron).

The Kist - an historic term for a linen box or treasure chest - is a stunning contemporary lodge set in private grounds in a beautiful rural location. A large deck area and a panoramic window in the main room allow visitors to enjoy the country experience whatever the weather. You may well find deer grazing in the garden of a morning.

The Kist is set in glorious countryside, but is close enough to Glasgow to enjoy all the cultural and shopping attractions of a big city. Some of Scotland's most spectacular countryside, including Loch Lomond, the Trossachs and the West Highland Way, are nearby. Historic Stirling is within easy reach and the Castle is definitely worth a look. Both Edinburgh and Perth are about an hour away by car.

The stylish glass fronted open plan living area includes a fully fitted kitchen complete with integrated fridge freezer, dishwasher, wine chiller and washing machine.

The large decked area to the front is the perfect way to enjoy sunny evenings and yes, there is a barbecue if eating al fresco is your thing.

There are two double bedrooms, both en-suite, with one set up as a twin room. The master bedroom has a "P" shaped bath and Mira shower. The twin room has a Coram quad shower and roomy walk in wardrobe. It is set up with twin beds.

The modern lodge offers all the advantages of a new home, in a lovely setting. Practical, cosy and stylish, you'll love being 'Kist'.
Guest accommodation at this cottage offers DVD players and coffee/tea makers. Kitchens offer fridges, hobs, microwaves and kitchenware and utensils. Bathrooms include baths or showers and hairdryers.
The recreational activities listed below are available either on-site or nearby; fees may apply.

Property conditions & facilities

5/5 Excellent

Hikeing hills we walked ben venue and Ben lomond planed to do ben a'an but legs could not do it.
In a word excellent lovely place good Base and deer in garden if you're as lucky as us.

5/5 Excellent

Excellent escape
We rented this property because it was 2 bedroom & 2 bathroom so no bathroom queuing. Also it was located in a nice rural area. The facilities in the Kist were good and although it had a TV, we never turned it on. Iona the Host, was on hand if needed, and any problems sorted quickly. The Kist has a well equipped kitchen, a BBQ on the decking and the beds very comfortable, with each having a good bath or shower. The garden and surrounding area is good for walks or biking and good views too. Would certainly stay again and highly recommend it to others.

5/5 Excellent

A beautiful haven of tranquility
We have had a wonderful week staying at The Kist. It is in a beautiful, peaceful part of Scotland and perfect for exploring the area. The cabin had everything we needed. Iona and Mark made sure we knew they were there if we needed anything, but were unobtrusive. We had a packed week exploring the Glasgow and Stirling area, and the Trossachs and Loch Lomond Park. There is so much to see and do in this area, which has a rich and fascinating history and gorgeous scenery.

5/5 Excellent

Short getaway break
More or less what we expected but a few slightly negative points. Very peaceful away from hustle and bustle. Exactly what we wanted. House itself was fine. Very clean but needs a wee bit tlc. Could do with a frying pan instead of a wok. Furniture comfortable but beginning to show signs of wear. Road from Balfron is a bit of a nightmare with many potholes, some quite deep. Entrance from East much better. There are single track stretches on both sides. Surrounding area is beautiful. Quite a few villages and decent pub/restaurants. The owners who live nearby are very nice, and will go out of their way to help you. All in all, a very enjoyable few days for the four of us.

5/5 Excellent

Our ideal weekend
The property was lovely and clean in an idyllic location. Iona was incredibly helpful with great instructions on how to reach the property. There are so many options for things to do in the area and the scenery around the location of the house is beautiful. We had a comfortable stay and the house was equipped with everything we needed. Overall a fantastic place to stay, lovely hosts and beautiful surroundings. We loved it!
