Private Retreat offering solitude and relaxation
Welcome to Cedar Springs Reserve. The property is 170 acres, and surrounds 398 acres of shallow lake and wetlands. If you enjoy fishing there are perch and bluegill to be teased out of the lilies, but you will have to work hard to find them.
There's lots of wildlife. Fabulous river tubing just minutes away.
Canoes and kayaks available. The entire facility is undergoing on-going renovations, expect new carpeting, fixtures, appliances.
The space Spread out into a comfortable King Master Bedroom with its own sitting area, TV, closet and ensuite bath. A second queen bedroom awaits with a full closet, TV, and its own exterior door. The "Hardy Boy Room" features two twin beds, bureau and closet. There is a loft with two more twin beds. We are constantly adding finishing touches so we apologize not all areas are complete yet. We will be adding photos over the next few weeks different areas are finished up.
The living room is open-concept, with a gas fireplace and Satellite TV and leads out to a large deck. Note on the TV: because sattelite service is our only option our here for TV and WIFI, we just want you to know that it can be spotty. Especially in bad weather. Which we have a lot of here in Wisconsin! If TV is essential to your vacation happiness, please don't book this house, as we have no control over this aspect. The wifi is good for light-duty surfing and emails, don't expect to stream movies.
Our house has surround sound now with bluetooth so you can play your own tunes and they will sound great.
Guest access Guests may have full run of the property, except for the storage garages where we keep our equipment. There is a tent outside where we keep our wood pile for our construction materials, please instruct children to keep clear of that. For example we did not advertise a large bar/sunroom that is being worked on but not ready for occupancy yet.
Other things to note: We have one other rental on the property, a tiny floating house out on the lake. The aluminum canoe is reserved for those renters. It is usually rented by solo travelers seeking time alone or by couples seeking back-country camping experiences. They will park by the canoe landing area and won't bother you a bit.
Our place isn't 100% perfect yet as there are many planned amenities we are still working hard to complete. The sunroom is not complete, the dock had to be pulled out by an excavator early this year due to major ice damage this past winter. You can still launch your canoes/kayaks alrightm but just know its a temporary situation. The hot tub/pavillion are still under construction. The hot tub is working, just doesn't have the pavillion done yet, its functional (no bugs!) but not very "beautiful" . There is a tent outside where we keep the wood we are working on (all the wood we use is from the property and has to be be cut and sawn, hand-peeled, so you will see many things in progress ).

We had a wonderful, relaxing stay. The cabin was beautiful and comfortable, and the surrounding property was very quiet and peaceful. Our family enjoyed kayaking, campfires, and playing lawn games outside.
My sisters and I so enjoyed our stay. The beds were so comfortable and the area is so peaceful. They have really thought of the little things like soaps, lotions, spices, coffee pods and so much more. The steam shower, bidet, hot tub and gas fireplaces are such nice extra features. The bear in the 4 season room was unexpected but he minded his manners. We will need to rebook next year to see how the fireplace turns out with the stone finish. We would have loved to use the boat to go out to the lake but didn’t get to this time. We really enjoyed our stay and would gladly return if we can.
We enjoyed the property and our time there. It was secluded and very private. Cabin was beautifully decorated, comfortable and had most of the items we needed for our stay. Spent some time near Shawno swimming at the beach and did some hiking at Shute Pond. Lots of great places to eat nearby.
Our family booked and stayed at this beautiful cabin. It was a nice and private get away. Cabin has all the modern conveniences. The owner was very friendly and helpful.
Property was clean, comfortable, spacious, and had everything we needed for a weekend stay in the Shawano area.
Turning off the highway onto the gravel road and traveling between the neighboring farms, we didn't know what to expect, but quickly found ourselves among the trees and next to the water for a secluded and private stay. The house itself was constructed and is well cared for and loved by the host's family - it was really cool to see pictures of their efforts in the guest book.
The hosts were communicative as necessary, but also left us to enjoy our stay in peace.
We had a wonderful stay. The cabin is beautiful and secluded. Lots of amenities and thoughtful details throughout to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
The pictures don't do this property justice. There's private access to a lake with kayaks for fun. There's a small boat too, but we found the kayaks easier to maneuver around the lily pads.
There's also a private hot tub that's perfect for starting your day, or finishing it off.
We had such a grateful time here and would highly recommend it for anyone looking to get away from city life, it's very quiet, clean, and disconnected. Warning, the wifi is very bad (they recognize this upfront) so just be aware. It's nice to stay in touch with family and friends, but because it's such a remote location, I guess this remains a challenge.
Thank you Jim and Yana for sharing this diamond in the rough with all of us.
We visited this property in July which is peak horsefly season so we were unable to explore and experience as much as we would like but we still had a blast.
Pros: Nicely decorated bedrooms with comfy beds with amazing sheets, large, functional kitchen,
Indoor and outdoor hammocks, hot tub, several grills, campfire area with wood and chairs, secluded yard with trails and access to kayaks on Christy Lake, much seating for watching tv, playing games or relaxing with a book(4 seasons addition is awesome), extra supplies throughout house, dog friendly!
Cons: We did book during peak time of summer but feel the cottage was not very clean(master shower and kitchen sink were not cleaned and dishwasher was full) and we started with 1 towel in each bathroom(we did find the extras). Bin for hot tub towels was empty as well. The kitchen is great but the utensils are old and flimsy. Not great options to do dishes manually other than old Hand towels. The kitchen is huge but most of the cupboards are full with supplies for the projects and cleaning supplies, a bit disorganized. There is a table top ice maker because the fridge one was broke, had to use bottled water because the water is gross tasting. There are areas of covered supplies for the cottage renovation projects that were easy to get around but we found lots of garbage throughout the property as well. Master bathroom is nice with a double sink vanity but the shower is super small
And terrible showerhead, other shower was great!
From the provided kayaks to the comfy hammock in the living room, we loved our stay here !! The cabin is so cozy and gorgeously crafted; the details are beautiful. We will be saving this location for future stays
Overall a cute place to stay; as the owner states, it’s is a work in progress, so some unfinished projects, but the owner is transparent about that.…our adult kids loved the hot tub.
The property was amazing! Down a long private driveway, great space to play yard games, kayaking and canoeing had a great set up. We like to cook our meals during a vacation and the kitchen had a great set up which we really appreciate. There were horse flies but not all the time. The porch was a favorite spot and the kids loved reading in the hammocks. Loved the piece and quiet. Great local winery and farmers market just a short drive away.

We came to Gillette for the Roy Hubbard Memorial Truck Show. Location was awesome. The home is beautiful but way to many cobwebs and could of left a couple more rolls of toilet paper. Having access to the row boat was fun. To bad the weather wasn't great but the family time was. Thank you
Pictures do not justify the coziness and amazingness of this cabin. We really enjoyed it, the outdoor area was amazing, very remote and quiet. Will definitely be back!
We had a lovely time! We wanted a private weekend to relax and that's exactly what we got. The dogs loved to romp around the property and we loved the warm fireplace and hot tub to come back to. You could feel the home was built with love and care and made for the perfect weekend!
The house gave us all the we needed for cooking, entertainment, relaxation, and quietness. We enjoyed our dinners and breakfasts out on the pourch. Relaxed in the hot tub. Had a nice walk through the woods. The new renovation they are doing to the sun room will look amazing when finished. Definitely has the wisconsin feel to this cabin. Very quite out there at night and far enough away from any towns so you can see all the stars. There was board games for us to us. Outdoor yard games.
It was a quiet and relaxing place. Birds were migrating, the first weekend in April. It was a little muddy, so bring your mud boots, binoculars and field book is required.
