The best time to visit the Gilbert River in Queensland is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.During these months, the weather is consistently pleasant with warm, sunny days and cooler nights. This makes it ideal for outdoor activities like fishing, exploring the riverbanks, and wildlife spotting. The lower humidity also means fewer insects, contributing to a more comfortable experience. For those keen on fishing, particularly for Barramundi, the earlier part of the dry season (May to July) often yields the best results as the river levels are receding, concentrating the fish. The conditions are usually calm, making for excellent boating and angling trips.Later in the dry season, from August to October, the weather remains excellent, and while fishing can still be good, it's also a fantastic time for birdwatching as many species gather around the shrinking waterholes.
