Nice place but needs some TLC
The house was nice and provided plenty of room for our family. One strong point about house was its nearness to the beach. Our family spent lots of time enjoying the beautiful beach since it isn’t as crowded as beaches closer to Mrytle Beach. The home does need a few improvements, such as painting porches and replacing some porch furniture. Also, we had a problem with ants in the kitchen and some other rooms.

Too pricey for what you get
It was very expensive for the condition of the property. Old bathrooms, uncomfortable mattresses and pillows, old bedding, old carpet. It was our only option because we had a 6 year old 10 lb miniature dachshund who does not chew and is totally trained but the only option for pets. It should be less expensive but was more expensive then some of the really nice beautiful houses that did not take pets.

Great for large groups
Home is perfect for large groups. We have 6 couples and everyone had their own bed and bath. Garage is a little messy…. A lot of stuff and difficult to get the golf cart. The office staff is nice and very friendly. Yet, it would be nice to be able to check in and out at the gate. All in all, it was a great vacation.

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately you cannot check in/out at the security gate because we have to confirm your identity and it’s important that we ensure it’s not a bunch of rowdy kids having a party. We will ensure the garage is clean and tidy.

Excellent stay in great location!
This property was perfectly located just steps from the beach and a short cart ride to all Debordieu facilities. While the home was slightly more dated than expected (particularly the bathrooms), it was very clean and communal areas were welcoming and updated. Will definitely visit again!

Thank you for your review. This home was recently purchased and the owner has spent quite a bit of money updating the exterior and interior of this home. Lots a new furniture and a totally new look. In fact this house is a great family friendly house that has many repeat guests who are very happy with all the updates.

Has a lot of "warts" but no major problems. Good fit it you want a place where you're not afraid to sit on the furniture. Big and roomy with lots of common and private spaces.

Great experience!
Wonderful location and plenty of space for multiple families to be together (and separate, when naptimes arise😄). One small oven created some challenges for Thanksgiving dinner prep, but it was worth it!

This place has an 80s feel but lots of room, fun bikes, close to beach, convenient to park. Kitchen a little small but will stocked. Ready to go back

Great Location
The house was clean and ready when we arrived. Overall we had a great stay and it accommodated us well. The house does need to be renovated and updated, which I believe the owners are planning to do this winter. If they do we would definitely go back. The location and access to the beach are fantastic considering it’s not right on the water. It’s in a great neighborhood too. We enjoyed our stay.

Safety Hazard and run down
There are a lot of repairs and safety issues needed before this place should be rented again. Multiple deck boards are broken and some stairs are lose along with many dangerous nails sticking up. The worst part is we asked the property manager the condition since there was a bad review right before our trip. They said the person was impossible to please and the complaints were not valid.

Don't go with high expectations!
Don’t go with high expectations! This is a lovely location, but the house is in horrible condition. Responses to reviews mention a “deep clean” at the end of each summer season, but the house needs considerably more than that. The owner/property manager offers quick responsiveness, but when we contacted them on the day of arrival (Saturday) they were not available to address our concerns until Monday. (By then we had already purchased our own coffeemaker to replace their broken one because going out for coffee once had already cost us money and a 45-minute round trip.) After their initial lack of responsiveness, we did not contact them again. Much of what needed to be addressed couldn’t be handled by a maintenance person anyway, as the house requires some major work. The door in one bedroom is rotted out at the bottom, which leaves a hole big enough for spiders and other pests to get in. The TV in one of the bedrooms did not have a cable, so it was not usable. (There was a broken cable behind the living room tv, so our guess is that a previous guest swapped them out without saying anything.) There was no Sony PlayStation, even though the listing said there was. The couch in the living room has a broken frame. The tables in the common area are worn and old. The outdoor porches were pretty much unusable because the furniture was in such bad shape. The doors to the outside are quite difficult to lock. The outdoor wood planking is hazardous due to how worn and loose it is. Depending on which shower you were in, you either got mostly hot or mostly cold water. And in the downstairs area, the design is such that the shower is shared between two bathrooms, so anyone taking a shower is visible from anyone using the toilet on either side of it, and the doors to the bathrooms do not lock. The kitchen was not supplied with basics like tablespoons or measuring cups or a wire whisk. We had to buy even basic things like salt and pepper, which based on previous VRBO experience we thought would have been stocked. The bikes were either in need of repair or the chains were too rusted out to use. The second refrigerator in the garage was moldy. Also, we kept smelling natural gas and finally realized towards the end of our stay that it was coming from the laundry room when the machines were running. If you are just looking for a place to lay your head that is close to the beach and has working air conditioning, this will do.

Poorly Maintained - Old Pictures!!
We were very excited to rent this property and the neighborhood was great, very close to the beach and beautiful location. However, there were a lot of things wrong with the property. Here is a short list (I wish I could post pictures)... 1) We were charged a pet fee, we didn't have any pets! 2) Some boards were loose and looked dangerous at the entry way, we had a 3 year old and a 4 year old with us and that was always on our mind. 3) Outdoor covered patio was very poorly maintained, most metal furniture was rusted and unusable. One of the rocking chairs was broken and unusable. Overall we ended up not using the patio. 4) Upon arrival we found out that one of the rooms was not cleaned at all, the pool table had dog hair and sand all over, sofas were dirty, The room smelled of cigarette smoke! 5) Doors would not lock, the room with bunk beds and another with a double bed had externally accessible doors, we could not lock the, the kids were scared to use the bunk beds. 6) Living room sofa was broken, someone put a book under it to make it usable. Overall, the furniture was very dated. 7) One of the bathroom door on the main level would not lock! 8) It rained a couple of times while we were at the property and the backyard parking was full of water, it took a while to drain and there were a lot of mosquitos! 1) We were charged a pet fee, we didn't have any pets! 2) Some boards were loose and looked like dangerous at the entry way, we had a 3 year old and a 4 year old child with us and that was always on our mind. 3) Outdoor covered patio was very poorly maintained, most metal furniture was rusted and unusable. WOW! We addressed all your concerns during your stay. The doors lock when you pull up on the handle which is the type of doors that are in this home. This is a pet friendly home and most guests bring pets...if you do not bring a pet we refund your pet fee which we also did when you alerted us that you did not have a pet. Our cleaning staff was leaving and removed their masks once outside. This is a well loved fun beach house that many guests enjoy. It is not fancy but it is safe and clean. Please understand that had we not addressed your concerns then we would be at fault, but we did respond to all your concerns when you contacted us. Sorry this rental did not meet your standards.

We love Debordieu Colony!
The house is great! The location is perfect for going to the beach and a short golf cart ride to the pool. The kitchen is stocked nicely as well. We loved the large open family room and secluded bedrooms with separate baths. We will be back!
