Merlot Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"This Hotel was a wonderful place to stay. Very close to the centre square, the Eger Castle and the thermal baths. The staff were friendly and very helpful."

Hunguest Hotel Flora

8/10 Good

"Stayed here 22/8/26 to 27/8/26 visiting family We received a warm welcome and given advice on facilities. We booked a superior room through Expedia, and stayed in room number 112 breakfast and evening meal included however we like to eat out. We did try evening meals twice it was ok. Rooms were clean but missed the cleaning morning after our arrival. Even though we put the sign for cleaning on the door. I don’t understand this when plenty of staff were around the corridor. Just to be aware, I took a bottle of water I’d paid for out off the mini bar in the room and took it into the dining room, one off the waiters sighed a receipt to say I had bought it in the restaurant. I showed the receptionist with dark hair I don’t know her name? our signatures on our cards that didn’t match the signature on receipt. who took our payment for lots off items from the mini bar, main bar, and restaurant. So we wasn’t charged. The morning we left we were charged for a Coke. We’d bought a large bottle of Coke from the shop and left half a bottle in the room. Well when I questioned this with the receptionist, the receptionist (with dark hair) who we paid our last bill was stood in reception and questioned when I mentioned we hadn’t had the coke and left half of a bottle from the store. She pulled a face and spoke to her colleague. Well we just paid for the coke I just couldn’t be bothered to say anymore. So just be aware I’m a honest person I was absolutely disgusted."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Gelej?

The best area to stay in Gelej is within the village centre itself, as it offers the most convenient access to local amenities and a sense of community.

Gelej is a small, rural village, so the "centre" isn't a bustling city hub but rather the main area where the church, local shops, and the community centre are situated. The main street, Kossuth Lajos utca, runs through the heart of the village, connecting these points. Accommodation here often consists of guesthouses or renovated traditional homes, providing a comfortable and authentic experience.

For couples looking for a peaceful escape, staying in the village centre is ideal. You'll be close enough to enjoy quiet walks through the village, visit the local church, and experience the slow pace of rural Hungarian life. It's also a good base for exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby natural attractions.

Families will also find the village centre suitable, especially if they appreciate a quiet environment where children can play outdoors. Many guesthouses offer gardens or outdoor spaces, providing room for relaxation and recreation.

When is the best time to go to Gelej?

The best time to visit Gelej is during the late spring and early autumn months, specifically from May to June and September to October.

These periods offer pleasant weather conditions, with comfortable temperatures and less rainfall compared to other times of the year. You'll find the countryside is lush and green in late spring, while early autumn brings beautiful colours to the landscape. It's also a good time to enjoy outdoor activities without the intense heat of summer or the chill of winter.

For those planning to explore the natural beauty of the Borsod region, including the nearby Bükk National Park, these months are ideal for hiking, cycling, and enjoying the scenic views. The milder weather makes day trips to local villages and historical sites more enjoyable for couples and solo travellers alike.

While July and August are also popular due to summer holidays, they can be quite warm, sometimes reaching higher temperatures.

Can I cancel my hotel reservation on Expedia?

Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact cancellation policy. If free cancellation is available, you can cancel directly through your Expedia account by logging in, going to "My Trips", and selecting your reservation. To find flexible deals, filter your search by "Fully refundable property" for hotels in Gelej.

How much is the nightly rate at a Gelej hotel?
