A hotel with charming character

Posted 05-Dec-2016
Pros: Facilities, food and staff.
Cons: Increase the heating in the bedroom. It is hot water heated with no ability to turn it on or off - heat came on only at 7:00 pm, then shut off.
Location: It is a bit far out of Galway, but we made it in. Parking in Galway on a Saturday was a challenge, but we found an open parking lot.
A warm and welcoming experience with good food, but a little difficult to find using a GPS simply because there is no street number to reference or postal code. Our only complaint was that the room was a little cool and could have been made warmer - but then it was December in Ireland, so what to expect.

Mediocre hotel that could be so much better

Posted 03-Nov-2016
-It would have been nice to have a warm room upon arrival late at night, but the heating had been turned off by that point (it was just after midnight). -It would have been nice to be able to shower in the morning before breakfast, but the water was cold, and it took c. 30 minutes for the boiler to be 'reset'. We then showered after breakfast, delaying our departure. Thankfully, we were not under too much time pressure. -It would have been nice to be able to self-serve breakfast. That way, I could pick and choose the items I wanted to eat and the quantity of each. The way food was served was akin to rationing by the staff member. I didn't want the whole array of unhealthy food, so just wanted larger portions of two items. It took three requests for more, to receive something adequate. It took 20 minutes for tea to be delivered to the table. There was no point in asking for milk, as the tea would have been cold, so resorted to taking milk from another table. It wasn't particularly busy at the time. The only plus was, that I did receive poached eggs, upon request. The fruit salad was mediocre, and the bowl was not refilled when empty. -It would have been nice to have higher quality shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner. The generic one for all is something you generally see in much lower class hotels. -It would have been nice to be asked how the stay was, upon checkout. -Overall, a nice hotel, spacious clean rooms, but could be so much better with some attention to detail.

Convenient "old style" hotel

Posted 28-Sep-2016 on Hotels
Awesome hotel just outside Galway City, the service was great, room was immaculate and spacious but also had an "older" feel to it. I had mistakenly booked the wrong day and the young woman at the front desk was amazingly patient and also very accommodating. We had incurred an obvious up-charge due to my mistake, but it placed us in a very nice room and we were thrilled to be able to stay and not be forced to make other plans due to my own error. Breakfast was perfect and plenty to get us going for the day of trekking ahead. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone in the Galway area looking for a quieter place to stay just outside the city.

A hidden gem just south of Galway

Posted 26-Sep-2016
Pros: EVERYTHING!
Cons: parking is a little disorganized
Location: Just south of Galway, perfect for visiting the city and the cliffs.
At first you think you are in the "wrong neighborhood", but just up a narrow driveway is an out-of-the-past beautiful hotel. The staff were fantastic, the rooms VERY nice, and the restaurant had a great variety that was VERY enjoyable!
