"When I arrived at this property the owner finally answered the door, she said she had no knowledge of my booking. Finally I had to email her a copy of my confirmation. This wasn't made any easier by her statement that "she spoke no English" - the website clearly states multilingual staff. (In fact it later became clear she did speak English). The 'living-room' is actually set out as a shop and did not feel welcoming - I was not invited to use it anyway. The only restaurant in Salives was unable...

COMFORT air-conditioned house with garden, terrace in Medieval City in Burgundy

10/10 Excellent

Logis Hostellerie d’Aussois

10/10 Excellent

"It is a very nice hotel overlooking a really beautiful medieval town. The staff were genuinely very nice and helpful. The food at the restaurant was awesome and reasonably priced and the breakfast was very good too. The swimming pool is great and was open late enough to enjoy it even after a day on the road. We will definitely go back to this hotel and recommend it to everyone. Our only regret was not to stay longer."

Hôtel Val Vert

10/10 Excellent

"We chose Hotel Val Vert for its location between Provence and Paris. We arrived fairly late and were able to have a lovely dinner right next door at a steakhouse. The room was very simple, clean and accommodating for 4 adults. The breakfast was amazing and we were so glad we chose to have it! A full buffet with many lovely and delicious items. The staff was super helpful and spoke English, which was a help for us. We would most definitely stay again should our travels take us to the area."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Frôlois?

The best area to stay in Frôlois is directly within the village centre, particularly near the main square and along the D954 road.

This central area offers a concentrated experience of village life. You'll find a selection of local businesses, including a bakery for your morning pastries and a few small shops. The general layout is quite compact, making it easy to stroll around and take in the local architecture.

Couples looking for a quiet, romantic getaway will find the village centre ideal. It provides a peaceful base for exploring the surrounding Burgundy countryside and its renowned vineyards. You can enjoy leisurely mornings and evenings within the village without needing to travel far for essentials.

For those planning to explore the wider Bourgogne region by car, staying along the D954 through Frôlois offers convenient access to major routes.

When is the best time to go to Frôlois?

The best time to visit Frôlois is typically during the late spring (May-June) or early autumn (September-October) when the weather is pleasant for exploring the Burgundian countryside.

During late spring, the vineyards are lush and green, and the temperatures are mild, usually ranging from 15°C to 22°C. This is an excellent time for activities like cycling along the Canal de Bourgogne or visiting local châteaux and historical sites without the intense heat of summer. You'll also find the local markets starting to offer a wider array of fresh produce.

Early autumn brings the grape harvest season, known as "vendanges," which is a special time to be in Burgundy. The weather remains comfortable, often between 12°C and 18°C, and the landscape transforms with the changing colours of the vines. This period is particularly good for those interested in wine tasting and experiencing the region's culinary traditions, as many local festivals celebrate the harvest.
