The best area to stay in Florence is the historic centre, encompassing districts like Duomo, Santa Croce, and Oltrarno, which offer the most convenient and authentic experience. The Duomo area is the heart of Florence, dominated by the magnificent Florence Cathedral. Staying here means you're just steps away from many of the city's most iconic sights, including the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio. It's a busy, bustling area with countless shops, restaurants, and gelaterias lining the narrow streets. For couples seeking a blend of historic charm and a slightly more relaxed pace, Oltrarno is an excellent choice. Located on the "other side of the Arno River," this district is known for its artisan workshops, boutique stores, and lovely trattorias. The Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens are key attractions here, and it offers beautiful views back across the river to the Duomo.Families will find the Santa Croce area particularly appealing. It's still very central but often a little less crowded than the immediate vicinity of the Duomo. The Basilica of Santa Croce is a major landmark, and the area has a good selection of family-friendly restaurants and accommodation options, often with more space.
