The layout is traditional, with narrow streets branching off from the main thoroughfares.

For travellers seeking a tranquil escape, staying in a guesthouse or quinta (country estate) just outside the immediate village centre can be ideal. These properties often offer more space, privacy, and direct access to the natural surroundings of the Viseu District, with scenic views of the countryside and hills.

Couples looking for a relaxing break will appreciate the quiet charm of Escamarão's centre, where they can enjoy leisurely strolls and local hospitality.

The best time to visit Escamarão is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

These periods offer pleasant weather, with warm, sunny days and comfortable evenings, superb for exploring the natural beauty of the region without the intense heat of summer. You'll find the countryside lush and green, and it's an ideal time for outdoor activities like hiking or cycling through the vineyards and along the Dão River.
