Escalante Casita with Breathtaking Views
The SaltBrush Casita is an art-filled retreat tucked beneath cliffs less than a half mile from the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Enjoy comfort, breathtaking scenery, and solitude within a five-minute drive to Escalante town.
Completed in 2025 and built around a great room with a soaring 18-foot ceiling, the home blends seamlessly with the native landscape. The great room’s plush sofa and comfortable armchairs are arranged around enormous windows framing the National Monument and the red cliffs of Boulder Mountain.
A spiral staircase takes you to the open loft. With a full-height ceiling and its own bank of huge windows, the loft provides panoramic views of the Monument and our famous high-desert landscape. Sleep beneath soft cotton sheets in its comfortable queen bed. There’s also a closet for your clothing and gear.
The main-floor bedroom has a cozy queen bed with soft cotton bedding, its own heat and air conditioning, and a designer ceiling fan overhead. Wake up to the morning sun climbing the cliffs rising directly behind the house.
The full kitchen is stocked with everything you’ll need to prepare meals when not dining out. The kitchen has quartz counters, fridge, dining table, and stainless steel appliances, including a range, microwave, and dishwasher. We also provide a Nespresso machine with coffee pods, tea kettle and tea, French press, toaster, cutlery, cooking utensils, stainless steel cookware, and barbecue tools. Spices, oils, vinegars, and sugar are in the cupboard. We even provide some snacks and cold beverages. Dine on stoneware made by Brett, the owner and an Escalante potter who has a studio on the property.
The full bathroom is a great place to clean up after a day exploring. The bathroom has a bathtub, shower, Toto bidet, plush cotton towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, hair dryer, full-size washer and dryer, and laundry detergent.
In the warmer months, enjoy the private outdoor shower beneath the cliffs. With hot and cold water, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and designer lighting, shower al fresco while enjoying the amazing views of the landscape or nighttime sky.
The Casita’s shaded patio is nestled next to giant boulders at the base of the cliffs. Relax in the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the warmth of the hammered-steel propane fire pit while dinner cooks on the Weber grill.
The SaltBrush Casita is 740 square-feet and has heat, air conditioning, WIFI, HD smart TV, ceiling fans, key pad for self check-in, and a 240 volt power outlet (NEMA 14-50R) for charging an electric vehicle. The queen sleeper sofa in the great room can accommodate a fifth guest. Outside the front door there is a Nest doorbell that can record external audio/video and be used to communicate.
Utah has the highest concentration of certified International Dark Sky Parks and Communities in the world. Whether you’re a stargazer or night-sky photographer, SaltBrush Casita is the ideal place to experience the starscape. During the day, explore our eight acres with its small slot canyon and an abundance of wild flowers and grasses, Utah Juniper, piñon, and other native flora.
Perfectly situated, the SaltBrush Casita is the ideal base for your adventure. With colors transitioning through yellows, oranges, and reds, the Escalante area has some of the most uniquely beautiful landscape in the world. Away from the huge crowds, its slot canyons and sandstone cliffs often feel undiscovered.
At the Saltbush Casita, you can hike from the front door or take a short walk to see ancestral puebloan structures. The Grand Staircase-Escalante Visitor Center is less than five miles away, as is the Petrified Forest State Park. We’re also close to scenic Highway 12, designated one of the country’s All American Roads. It stretches among Bryce Canyon National Park, Kodachrome Basin, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Escalante, Boulder, Dixie National Forest, and Capitol Reef National Park. If you’re visiting the Magnificent Five, Escalante is a great basecamp. And if you want a change from the sculpted desert landscape, drive or cycle from the Casita to the top of Boulder Mountain, which is just 13 miles away. You will be greeted by pine forests, cool air, and small lakes where you can birdwatch or fly fish.
While pets aren’t allowed, our jackrabbits and resident Kit Fox are welcome, provided they stay off the furniture.

This was a great place to stay while we explored Escalante! Everything at the casita was so nice, we loved the crocs they provided to wear inside, the beautiful homemade pottery, and watching the sunrise and sunsets from a quiet place in the desert!
Excellent location to Bryce and Hole in the Rock Rd. ! The stars were amazing, and the accommodations were exactly what we needed during the winter. Will definitely stay here again when the weather calls for it!

Amazing location! Owner was very hospitable and was quick to respond. The Casita was immaculate and well stocked. Couldn't have been better. We recommend it 100% and will be booking it again in the spring!
As wonderful as the surrounding area is, the Casita shone by providing beauty, comfort, and everything we needed for a perfect vacation in Escalante. Thank you Bret for creating such a warm and tasteful space for travelers!
Wow, the property was exactly as described and.shown in the photos. It is just outside of town, but feels like it is miles from anything. The night sky was amazing.Beautiful, quiet, all around perfect
We loved everything about the property. It was well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Brett even left some special drinks and treats out for us. One of the nicest places I've ever stayed. Enjoyed meeting Brett and seeing his beautiful pottery as well!

Very nice casita on a gravel road in the desert. Great views. Great AC. Kitchen is good. We had 3 adults there and it was fine. Would recommend to my family.
Great space with beautiful views. Accommodations were comfortable. Well thought out design and decor. Never had the chance to explore the property was such a quick visit. But would stay here again for longer visit to Escalante. Exactly what i would want in a 2nd home. Easy communication with Brett. Thanks for sharing your place.
My stay here was INCREDIBLE! Honestly wish I could give it more than 5 stars. I was lucky to get out of town and head to Escalante with a friend. The casita is gorgeous and was spotless upon arrival. We cooked a couple times, having the full kitchen was a life saver. The host was really friendly and responsive! We had such an amazing time. Will definitely recommend this to friends/family and would stay here again. Cannot recommend enough!
We enjoyed our stay at the saltbrush casita. We had questions for Brett before we booked. He was easy to contact and very responsive. We didn’t have any issues during our stay. The casita is beautiful, clean, and conveniently located to trails— hole in the rock road, Kodachrome state park, Escalante state park. We enjoyed peaceful evenings in the patio, a rabbit came by most evening. I would not hesitate to stay here again!
We stayed two nights here and I was wishing for two months. In addition to a stunning location and view, the place was very tastefully decorated and fully appointed, especially the kitchen- which we appreciated to be able to cook all our meals. The host Brett was quite responsive and a really nice guy, as well as creating gorgeous pottery. Comfortable beds, plenty of hot water, easy heating/AC, and i’m gonna say it again, a stunning view. This is a magical place to spend some time in the desert and to explore the surrounding parks and monuments.
We could not have asked for a better stay at Brett’s Casita! The new home was clearly carefully constructed to offer every day luxuries and comforts. Our arrival at the house was extremely easy and was so welcoming with fresh plants in the vase, cold drinks in the fridge and snacks! The location offered quick access to the state park, the monument and the town but was far enough away to offer some peace and quiet. Would highly recommend to anyone and everyone! A
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this desert gem immensely. The accommodation was so comfortable and clean. Form meets function! A fully equipped kitchen allowed us to have our meals in and enjoy gorgeous views from expansive picture windows. We slept so well in the peace and quiet of the property (an amazing mattress definitely helped). Our host checked in on us throughout the stay to ensure that we had what we needed. The location is perfect for quiet walks, sunsets, stargazing, bird watching and hiking.Ten of ten!
This very new Casita is so nice! It’s a new home that is laid out very nicely with a beautiful view. After hiking some of the many local trails, we enjoyed relaxing in this quiet, comfortable, well appointed home that has everything you might need (grill and fire pit in the back; full laundry; fully equipped kitchen; artistically appointed decor (mostly owner/host created); and even comfortable house crocs to wear in the home). The host is very friendly and accessible - if you’re considering staying here, look no further. This is where we’ll stay when we return to the area!Oh, and if you want to squeeze in some short hiking/exploring before leaving the home, the “backyard” is a large accessible hillside for some fun hiking with views and potential artifact discoveries.
We had a wonderful stay at Brett's lovely property. The Casita was so clean and set up with many thoughtful touches. To name a few, Crocs of various sizes to wear indoors, snack bars for grab on a day for hiking, various of drinks in fridge all cool and nice, Ziploc bags, foil, full range of seasonings and a bag of ice in freezer. Brett left a hand written note and a hand made welcoming gift. It felt at home or even better. Our daughter loved sleeping in the loft, playing card games, and exploring the little slot canyon behind the Casita. We loved waking up to the beautiful view -- it was a perfect home base for exploring around Escalante. We can't wait until our next visit!
We had such a wonderful stay at the Casita Overlooking the Monument! We stayed there during our spring break visit to southern Utah and will definitely plan to stay longer next time! This is the perfect home base for visiting all of the incredible sites southern Utah has to offer. The Casita is cozy, with gorgeous views in all directions. The place is very private, has all of the amenities you could need for cooking, playing, and relaxing with friends and family in the desert. Place is charming and tasteful - super comfy beds, handmade ceramic dishes, beautiful art, cool new “vintage” fridge, great little porch hangout area with gas fire, the list goes on. Brett and Lisa are organized and thoughtful hosts - responsive with questions and clear with communications. Highly recommend!!!
The listing for the SaltBrush Casita describes it as a "Escalante Monument Casita with an Expansive View," but that doesn't begin to describe it. It's astonishingly beautiful there, both day and night. My husband is a night sky photographer, and he's never found a better location to shoot. The skies are gorgeously clear and nearly completely free from light pollution. The national monument and other nearby landscapes provide for dramatic photographic settings, of course, but thanks to its desert location, even the casita's back porch makes for a perfect spot to set up a tripod. (See below.)Brett was very knowledgeable, friendly, and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. 10/10 experience, day or night.
This immaculate guest house boasts stunning views and complete serenity. From the beautiful finish work throughout, to the hand-thrown pottery mugs and bowls in the cupboards, to the creative photography on the walls, to the surprise find of an artistically hung tumbleweed, every detail of this space has been lovingly considered and executed. We loved how clean, cared for, and close to town it was, and took advantage of all its amenities, while thoroughly enjoying the rock hillside in the back yard, the quiet, and the house’s unique personality. This guest house reminds me of a high-end boutique hotel: well-designed, alluring, and a complete delight to spend time in.Check-in was seamless, and host communicated clearly and quickly. Awesome experience!
Our experience at the casita over a long weekend was simply superb. Everything about the casita feels curated, starting with the sitting and window placement to maximize desert canyon views. The space and layout is cozy but with enough room for individuals spread out. The casita is fitted with top notch equipment throughout and has everything one would need. Brett, the host, is an artist and photographer and his ceramics housewares and photos throughout the casita add a unique sense of place like no other. Brett's communication before during, and after our stay was responsive and personal, and the personal touches added to welcome guests were something I'd never experienced before. The casita is also perfectly placed for exploring everything the area has to offer visitors, too. We will definitely be back.
Clean, well-furnished/equipped modern house in a stunning location. The property description is perfectly accurate - the casita is relatively compact at 740 sq ft., and the second bedroom is a loft overlooking the main living area. And it's gorgeous, with big picture windows, very comfortable furniture and bedding, excellent wifi and air-conditioning, and very functional kitchen and bathroom. It worked well for our group of 3 friends, and would be ideal for a family or one or two couples. Snacks and drinks were thoughtfully provided for our stay, and Brett's artistic touches, including his own stoneware, create a wonderful ambience to the place. If you are looking for "isolated but not remote" this is the ideal place - seemingly in the middle of nowhere but just 10 minutes from the coffee shops and restaurants of Escalante, and within relatively easy reach of the amazing scenery Bryce Canyon NP, Kodachrome Basin State Park, Capitol Reef NP, and the "Hole in the Rock" road. We loved our stay!
We just left from a two day stay at this amazing home. It’s comfortable, brand new and beautifully done. There’s lots of art and natural wood, with fun touches like some of the owner’s hand-made pottery in the kitchen cupboards. There’s a full kitchen, which was great since a lot of the restaurants in Escalante hadn’t opened yet for the season. The bed is super comfortable and we woke up every morning to the sun lighting up the cliffs right behind the house. Beautiful. The south side of the house is almost all windows so the view from the living room is breathtaking all day. One night we used the grill and sat around the gas fire pit on the patio, which is right below the cliffs behind the house. The location is ideal. It’s so quiet but we were still only about five minutes from Escalante. The owner is kind and was quick to respond to the couple of questions we had. Two thumbs up!
We loved this property! Its absolutely perfect, beautiful and close to everything. Brett is an excellent host and we look forward to staying there again!
