Quiet hotel that felt a bit more like a homestay! The room was basic but clean – no A/C and only a wall mounted fan (which was good enough – in Ella you’re quite high up so the nights are cooler than elsewhere, so we coped well with the fan). The doors didn’t completely close so we were grateful for the mosquito net hung around the bed. The room had no safe or minifridge either, but for the price we paid, we really couldn’t complain. The hotel is about 5 min walk to the main street of Kandy where there are several restaurants and shops. The toad is very steep and not lit up at night so do make sure your phone battery is charged so you can use the torch! Think there must have been about 7 rooms, all with a huge balcony terrace overlooking a wonderful view of the Ella Gap. I got up early to sit out on the terrace and watch the scenery slowly lighten and the train go from Ella to Kandy (you can see the train go quite close to the hotel, and then reappear several minutes later going over a bridge – it gives you an iconic photo of the greenery of Ella, complete with Ella gap and one of Sri Lankan’s iconic blue trains! Check the train times first and remember that the trains in the area are often late). Breakfast was provided to us on the terrace; fresh fruit, omelette, toast and tea! More than adequate for a day’s exploring.

Incredible view, great location, basic, very clean
The best thing about Blue View Guest house is the amazing view from your room (apart from when it's misty or raining). It's a short walk or Tuk Tuk from the main town of Ella and around 30 steep steps down to the hotel from the parking area on the roof. The room was very clean but also very basic ie. no wardrobe/hairdryer/shampoos etc but that's what you pay for and it was still very good value. Breakfast was simple but more than adequate with fresh fruit, tea/coffee, omelette and a mound of toast and jams, and the staff were as pleasant and polite as any of the luxury hotels we had stayed previously. It's a great location for exploring and we had a guide (Hashan) with our driver (Hansa) one day to do Little Adam's Peak, (a bit difficult to do the last bit) Nine Arch Bridge (check out the incredible fruit juices in the café above the viaduct), Ruwana Falls, Ella Walla Falls (just as storm came in great walk for 2km including a boulder path in the forest and on a nice day the pool below the fall is great for a swim) finished off with a cookery class with Prya at the Elephant Hotel nearby.

Basic old rooms. Great view and good proximity to town although a 3 minute very steep walk up a hill - you wouldn’t want to do it with bags. Didn’t want to give breakfast before 8am and no offer of a packed breakfast like other places do so not ideal if you want to head off early up Ella Rock or Little Adams Peak. No a/c which didn’t bother me but it was 30 during the day so may bother others. No top sheet was provided so I asked for one and they gave it to me but it was like it was an odd request! Rainhead showers seem to be on the must-have list for every Sri Lankan accom now - there was a shiny new one here, only problem it wasn’t properly affixed to the wall so fell off on me and also wasn’t plumbed correctly so the mixer gave you either scolding hot or freezing cold water and often just a trickle. Overall it was fine but I’d say over-priced for what it is.

The view from the hotel is fantastic. The room was very basic with a double bed, mosquito net, and a lockable safe and wardrobe. The bathroom was very new and clean. The room I had was okay for the one night I was there. What was not so good was the service - there wasn’t much at all! It took my driver 10 minutes to locate someone when I wanted to check in, I was taken to the room and given the key and this is all the service I had for the whole stay. I wasn’t given any info about breakfast and the gate was locked at night. I had to climb over (double my height) to get out for a hike I was taking. I don’t think the room was worth the money and there are many other options in the same street.

Nice views & secure. Biggest issue is that currently a lot of construction going on which does detract from the experience. Staff friendly and try but disorganised e.g. room was still being cleaned at check in, internet kept going down, no welcome drink (despite being advertised) on arrival and no one around when checking out. Breakfast was OK but I had better in the town on my last day when leaving at the same price. I think there are better value guest inns available in Ella.

This guest inn has an amazing view of Ella Rock and the mountains! The room was clean and the bathroom was excellent with a great shower! The breakfast was nice however we would have loved to have been offered a Sri Lankan style breakfast as they only offered western. A short walk down the hill to the main town also!

Excellent location, room and bathroom were simple but good, friendly and helpful staff, excellent view of Ella rock!!! Breakfast was delicious, great location and very central for the little Adams peak hike and walk to the nine arches bridge. Lots of restaurants close by too.

The staff are so helpful and friendly here. When I arrived they saw I had a walking cast on one foot and have helped me everyday manage the steps and make my stay more comfortable. They changed our room so I had easier access and I can't say enough about the kindness of the staff. I would stay here again if I come back. I loved the view and the breakfast.😁

Good views and pleasant staff
This Guest Inn benefits from beautiful views over Ella’s rock and the owner was very welcoming offering drinks on arrival and was happy to help us when requested. However, the rooms were not cleaned during our stay and towels were not changed which was a little disappointing. Also the WiFi only worked intermittently which made it tricky for us to plan the rest of our trip.

Great place to stay
Hard to find a better view. This hotel sits uphill (really uphill) from the main road and around the backside of the hill. The view of Ella Rock and the Kital Ella waterfalls can't be beat. Friendly staff who are helpful. Room was nice and comfy. Big patio area on the balcony.

Good location, great view.
Close to downtown Ella with fantastic views from the large balcony. Accommodation is basic but aĺl we needed. Staff were very obliging.

nice hotel with great views
The hotel was comfortable. The view from the hotel was great. It was in walking distance to most everything however it is a big uphill to get back to the hotel from everything. The rooftop deck is still under construction but will be a great addition when it is done.

Stunning views
Nice place to stay with stunning views over the valley. Lovely to have breakfast in the morning with this view. Staff were friendly & helpful. Room was spotlessly clean. Only slight problem was contacting them prior to visiting (no email contact).

wonderful views
this place is cheap and has amazing views over ella rock. the room is clean and bathroom is big. wifi isn't the best unfortunately. we got up super early to go climb ella rock and realised we were locked into the hotel so if you want to leave early go tell them the day before so you don't have to jump the high fence. it is up a very steep hill so just be wary of that also but at the bottom of the hill are all the bars and restaurants.

We stayed at Blue Moon Guesthouse for 2 nights in October and are very happy that we chose this Guesthouse. (We paid 500 rupees for a taxi from the train station to the Guesthouse) Check-in was easy and the host was very hospitable and friendly, giving us recommendations on things to do and places to eat in the local area. Breakfast was offered but we had declined due to our plans. The room was very clean, had a TV and a lovely big blanket which kept us plenty warm enough in the night. The shower was pleasant and had hot water (you have to switch the heater on 20 minutes before -not a problem at all). The location was great, situated between the the lake, town and horse racing ground. There are currently some building works happening at the front of the building which may look a little offputting on arrival, however this did not impact on our stay at all and we didn't noticed any noise at all. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this Guesthouse to anyone looking for clean budget accommodation within a great location in Nawara Eliya

Duped by this listing.
I am loathed to write a poor review on this property because the place is run by some very pleasant people. However, there is a serious disconnect between the property and what is listed on hotels.com. I booked a room with breakfast included but upon arrival was informed that this was not the case. I checked my booking and it clearly indicated that breakfast was included. Starting a four day stay with a dispute with the owners was unfortunate, to say the least. After some negotiation, the situation was resolved to my satisfaction. I referred this issue to hotels.com who sent me another copy of my booking confirmation, telling me that breakfast was not included despite the fact that "Free breakfast" was clearly written on that very conformation document. In that same response, I was told that the property offered two rates, one with breakfast and the other without. Again, I went back to the listing and could not find examples of the listing without breakfast! It also troubled me that the listing for this property was completely inaccurate. The following were listed but did not exist: free bottled water, separate living area, daily house-keeping, an in-room safe and desk. I felt that I had purchased a product from hotels.com that had been totally misrepresented. As for the property, as I stated the owners were very pleasant despite our disagreement regarding the provision of breakfast. The view from the room is quite stunning.

The two reasons to stay here - magnificent views and hospitality. The terrace in front of the rooms looks out to Ella Rock - undisturbed beautiful views. Hospitality is fantastic, they really try hard to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Because of this, staying here for a couple of nights is ok. I have to mention the cleanliness issue which totally let's this place down. It is a guest house so yes it is basic but the bed sheets had disgusting huge yellow/brown stains as did the towels. We struggled with getting hot water on the second day. This place is still relatively new so possible teething issues. It could be fab because it's location is second to none and only a short 5 mins walk to the main strip (down a very steep slope!). Beware, although the Hotels.com reservation confirms that breakfast is included, they did try and charge us for breakfast on check out - we resolved it in the end but apparently the booking confirmation that they receive specifies room only whereas the one we got said breakfast was free...all in all we had a lovely two days here and they even arranged a taxi for us at a decent price. Thank you Mount Blue View.

I stayed at this hotel one night with my family. Bugs over all the Windows. No a/c. Terrible smell of sewage. Dangerous lack of railing on balcony. I booked 3 nights. Upon arrival I was told there was only one room for our next night. I stayed one night and was charged for 3. Expedia said the host refused to refund. Ella is a beautiful place but this was a very stressful and disappointing experience. I called the host many times to clarify the charges, to ask for help with the smell, to get water or towels or soap... no response. Expedia was not professional to just leave me in this fraudulent situation. I would not trust them fully. The host was impossible to reach. A shame that our hotel experience was in such contrast to the beauty of Ella.

Unanswered phone after multiple tries. Property not signposted or on my google map so a frustrating uncertain trek up steep hills with luggage. Arrived at a construction site with stairs to hotel proper so severe + dangerous handrails cannot be reached while descending! No one around with rooms open for a hour. Worse of all was the room - Entry, ventilation + view all share single common corridor. Noisy + without a shred of privacy. Plus no blackout curtains. A far cry from advertising photo indicating wide balcony with lovely view! The view is real though. Included breakfast was disputed then arrived 45mins late. Juice + fruit plate both promised but with fruit reneged. Toast seemingly from yesterday: Dry + crumbled to the touch. Argumentative child owner will not concede to anything, For instance insisting no need for sign as his phone shows property location even when others do not. Pricing is double far of far better competitors nearby. Beware future construction of Entire Upper Floor will add to problems.

Room is simple with only what you need. Especially since you are probably in Ella to be outdoors, hiking, and seeing waterfalls. There was good water pressure, hot water, powerful fan/ AC. Management if very friendly, speaks English and are great guides on where to go. Lastly, it's a 5 minute walk down the hill to the main street with shops, restaurants, and bars. I highly recommend staying here in Ella.

Es fällt uns nicht leicht eine so negative Bewertung abgeben zu müssen. Die Beherbergung hat uns in allen Hinsichten nicht befriedigt. Nicht mal eine Reception ist vorhanden, Kakalaken, Ameisen und ein nicht sehr gereinigtes Zimmer hat uns erwartet. Das Internet funktioniert auch nicht im Zimmer. Der Eingang des Hotels ist gar nicht sichtbar, eine bestehende Baustelle und wird als Kehre für Tuc Tucs verwendet. Das Frühstück haben wir aus hygienischen Gründen gar nicht in Anspruch genommen. Das Personal bemüht sich herzlichst, beherrscht aber die englische Sorache nicht. Somit wird auch die Bitte um ein Toilettenpapier zu einem Problem. Ella selbst zu besuchen ist auch nicht gerade ein Freudensschrei, die Teeplantage ist aber top.

Der Aufenthalt im touristischen Ella war leider eine Enttäuschung. Lediglich der Ausblick und die Lage sind gut, der Rest nicht. Der Sevice hatte es schwer, da Sprachkenntnisse fehlen, die Zimmer (auch wenn das Hotel noch eine Baustelle ist) sind sehr verwohnt. Die Badezimmereinrichtung rostet oder ist nicht mehr vorhanden. Achtung: Warmes Wasser erst ab Nachmittag. Vormittags nur kaltes Wasser. Das Frühstück wird auf dem Balkon/im Eingang serviert, dabei kann man zumindest den schönen Ausblick genießen, wenn das Essen schon nicht gut ist. Die Auswahl beschränkt sich auf Toast mit Marmelade, wenige Früchte und etwas was nach Ei aussah. Das WiFi steht zwischen 23 und 6 Uhr zur Verfügung, in den anderen Zeiten nicht nutzbar.

When arriving at the hotel one of our three rooms was not delivered. The hotel offered us 1/2 refund of the price for the missing hotel room. After discussion we were promised full refund for the missing room. Extra beds was installed in only one of the rooms so we had to sleep 5 people in a small room. We left the hotel in the morning for the train to Ella 06:39. We only got 1/2 refund and no breakfast. You can not trust the booking/hotel
