About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire cottage to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
A beautiful and cosy dog friendly cottage with flexible sleeping arrangements
Groom's Bell is one of two adjacent cottages tucked in the corner of the courtyard. It was built in the 1830s but has since been restored and refurbished to meet modern standards, mixing 19th and 20th century furniture and styles whilst retaining a traditional cottage feel. In front is a small enclosed private garden, a sheltered sun trap with furniture for an impromptu alfresco meal and guests are also welcome to relax in the larger adjacent grounds of Castletoun House.
Groom's Bell has two bedrooms, each with an ensuite shower room and WC and both bedrooms can be arranged either as twin bedded rooms or with a king size bed - just let us know which you need at the time of booking.
Downstairs there is a well equipped kitchen with all the necessary appliances - from induction hob to a dishwasher. In the far corner from the kitchen, there is a dining table.
The living room is perfect for all the friends or family to gather in, to enjoy the evening warmth of the wood burning stove, watch the large flat screen smart TV (Netflix included) or browse the internet using the free WiFi. In the living room you will also find a good selection of books, board games as well as toys for the youngest members of the family.
Groom's Bell is in Greenlaw village, the Scottish Borders, and has charming southerly country views from every room across Blackadder River to Greenlaw Mill Farm and beyond to Catmoss Hill. It is within a minute's stroll of the centre of the village and the the lovely pub/restaurant, the Blackadder Arms, and yet is as quiet and rural as a country cottage.

Lovely cottage in small country village. Nicely located to explore the Scottish Borders. Been renovated to a high standard and has all you would need. Don’t forget anything as post stay collection can be problematical.
The cottage is tucked away from the main road so nice and quiet. The small west facing garden was a nice sun trap although on Tuesday at 34c a bit too warm. Easy access into Kelso and Dunns as Greenlaw has one pub and one cafe on offer.
Beautifully renovated cottage with immaculate presentation. Arrived to find tea, coffee and milk for us, plus dog bowl, poo bags and towel for our pooch. The cottage is well equipped. Owners are very helpful and queries answered promptly. Nice area for country walking, visiting stately homes and quaint Market towns. Suggestions for local walks and information on places to visit provided by owners. If you don't want to cook, the food at the local pub is mediocre, but there are better eateries a short drive away in Melrose or Lauder. Overall had an excellent stay and plan to rebook.
This is a lovely property, very well laid out and especially good as each bedroom is en-suite. The rooms are light and airy but at the same time cosy with a log burner if required. We found the beds very comfortable. We were able to self cater with ease.
It is a great place for dogs as Greenlaw provides walks close by for morning walks. Our hosts were on hand, via email, at all times and provided an excellent service. The hens did their bit as well with fresh eggs being available to purchase.
I have no hesitation in recommending this property to anybody who wishes to stay in the rolling landscape of the Borders.

Cottage was exactly as described. Everything was spotless and had all we needed. Beds were huge and really comfortable.
The cottage is beautiful and clean set in picturesque grounds, ideal base for travelling to the coast, countryside also makes a easy drive to Edinburgh, would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a relaxing break or sightseeing surrounding villages 😎
A lovely cottage that is well equipped and in a great location.
Nice and cosy especially on the cold nights with the log fire burning and nice comfy beds.
We wished we could have stayed longer!
We will definitely return.
Thanks for a lovely stay
This is a beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean and very well-equipped. Incredibly comfortable beds and great to have two bathrooms (plus a downstairs loo!).
My daughter and I met here after not seeing each other for 5 months due to lockdown. We went on some lovely walks from the excellent little walking book provided. Cosy and private in the evenings - wine and Netflix! A really great place to catch up. Thank you.
My husband, 2 year old daughter, Spaniel & I enjoyed a fantastic 4-night stay in Greenlaw. The cottage was really well-equipped and was both stylish & extremely comfortable. The location provided a perfect base to explore from and the owners were extremely helpful and welcoming. We hope to return again in the future.
The selection and booking process through home away was simple and straightforward. The property owner communicated clear instructions well ahead of our arrival date and when we did arrive we were wonderfully surprised at just how amazing the accommodation and location was. The property owner had great COVID19 preparations in place and all in all this made for a very relaxing break away in the countryside. Can’t wait for the next one !
The cottage was beautifully renovated with tasteful decor and spotlessly clean. It was great to have a little enclosed garden for our dog and a bigger garden area to walk her in away from the road. Greenlaw itself is a small village with only a corner shop but the cottage is ideally placed for visiting the borders area. We had a lovely time and would not hesitate to book again. Thank you.
The pics don't do the house justice : this place is stunning! There was loads of room for two adults, two kids & a dog and Bailey our Beagle even had his own towel & water bowl waiting for him when we arrived. The furnishings and decor are extremely stylish & both rooms had a large ensuite with shower (with one also having a large bath).
Everything was spotlessly clean and it was handy to have a good washing machine & dryer.
The owners were just around the corner if we needed them and the local pub (The Blackadder) served great food and a cracking pint of Guinness. Just watch tho as it wasn't open on a Monday & Tuesday, and if you need an alternative the Gordon Arms is just 5 minutes away in the car which also serves great food and (like the Blackadder) is dog and child friendly.
As far as walking goes, you cn pretty much choose a direction and go for it! There was a wee book in the house full of lovely walks (none more than 20mins in the car) and from it we enjoyed a walk over the cliffs in St Abbs followed by a cracking fit supper in Eyemouth, a wander along the Tweed to the Hirsel in Coldsteam and a walk through the forests around Duns Castle.
If you need a short trip away to recharge the batteries which is a comfortable drive from Glasgow/Edinburgh/Newcastle, this is definitely it. Awesome!!
This cottage has been beautifully renovated and decorated to a very high standard. We loved the retro feel to the furnishings and the cottage is spotless throughout. The outside courtyard style area has the afternoon and evening sun on it and is a great space to relax in the quiet surroundings. The photos accurately portrait the property which is in an excellent location for exploring the wider Borders region. We would certainly recommend a stay here if you are visiting the area.
