About this property
Deluxe Room for 2, Mountain Views | Boyne Valley
The balcony, and the king bed behind it. Step outside first thing and you're looking at working farmland, cattle grazing in the next field, and the Cooley and Mourne mountains sitting on the horizon.
a genuinely comfortable king-size bed, a proper view, and a private ensuite. Inside you've got a small kitchen setup — fridge, kettle, microwave, toaster — so you're not dependent on us for the basics, and we stock the room with bread, milk, tea, coffee, butter and jam so your first morning doesn't involve a supermarket run. It's the kind of room that rewards slowing down — coffee in hand, door open, no agenda for the first hour of the day.
We're right off Junction 12 of the M1 in Dunleer, Co. Louth — about 15 minutes from Drogheda, roughly 40 minutes from Dublin Airport, and around 1 hour 10 from Belfast City Airport. That makes this an easy stop whether you're touring the country, breaking up a longer drive north or south, or just need somewhere well-placed for a flight either direction. Being this close to the M1 without hearing a hint of it is one of the quieter wins of staying here.
History and heritage sit right on the doorstep. Newgrange and the wider Brú na Bóinne site — older than the pyramids — are a straightforward drive through the Boyne Valley, and Monasterboice's round tower and high crosses are even closer, worth an hour on their own. If you'd rather move than sightsee, the Boyne Ramparts Walk and Cooley Peninsula are both within reach, with Carlingford Lough's shoreline and the town of Carlingford itself worth the extra drive for a full afternoon out — good food, a working harbour, and mountains straight down to the water.
Travelling with kids? Funtasia waterpark in Drogheda and Emerald Park in Meath are both within easy reach for a proper family day out, the kind that tires everyone out before dinner. This room's king bed plus balcony also works well for couples travelling alongside family in one of our other rooms, or anyone who wants a quieter corner of the house to retreat to at the end of the day.
If you're here for a wedding, we're well placed for several of the area's best-known venues. Darver Castle and Segrave Barns are both in Co. Louth, a comfortable drive from the property, and Ballymagarvey Village in Co. Meath is a little further out but well within range for a wedding weekend stay. If you've got a group booking across multiple rooms for the same wedding, just message us — we're happy to help you and your party work out timings and logistics.
Self-check-in, no lockbox — front door unlocked 3pm–9pm daily. Arriving later? Just message us ahead of time and we'll arrange key collection, so you're never left standing outside. Standard checkout is 11:00am; late checkout to 2pm is available for €30 if it works with the next guest's turnover — ask us first rather than assuming it's fine. No breakfast is served, but every room is stocked with the basics, plus your own fridge, kettle, microwave and toaster to use as you like throughout your stay. Free WiFi and free on-site parking are included. This room fits 2 comfortably. No pets, please, and smoking is welcome on the balcony only — everywhere else in the house stays smoke-free indoors. Quiet hours run 10pm–7am, and Rathescar Grove isn't the right fit for parties, hen dos or stag groups; for those, we're glad to point you toward one of the bigger venues nearby.
Rathescar Grove sits in a quiet corner of the Boyne Valley — a working landscape rather than a manicured one, which is exactly the point for most people who stay here.
