I figured I'd never be in Dubuque again, so why not choose a super unique place to stay? That logic was all I needed and it paid out well: this house is incredibly interesting to walk around and just... observe. Day and night are very different experiences and if you're lucky, not all rooms will be occupied so you can look at the different levels of extravagance.
Speaking of, splurge for the "Library Suite" if you can, it's not a ton more than the cheapest room and it's wholly unique. Yes, that IS a claw tub in the middle of the sitting room. I can only imagine how fun that bath would have been in the winter with the fire roaring.
Owners are super friendly and excited to talk about the house's history, which is great if you're into old architecture etc.
Food was very tasty and plentiful, including the always available cookies, sodas and boxed wine.
I would happily return and will be recommending it to all my "midwest roadtrip" friends.
