We miss it already! Perfect location next to the Verdon canyon, near the start of the best hiking spots in the area and fun activities you can find around Castellane. The view from the castle is astonishing, the food is delicious and the hotel team is very nice. You'll find there a unique ambient in this old medieval castle on top of a lovely little village. I personally really enjoyed the nights on the roof terrace watching the full moon and the ballet of the nighthawks, lying on a lounge chair, with a glass of Farigoule (local thyme liquor). The only bad point was the wasps on the terraces during the day. I believe it was new for the owners and I'm sure they will take care of that in the near future. It certainly looked impressive as we approached (it can be seen from miles away) and it looked equally impressive close up. Some say it is not really an old Castle, but parts of the building does date back many hundreds of years, and the 1970's renovations that brought it back in to use have been sympathetic the original style so it is a winner in my opinion. Some may feel the lack of original 800 year old artefacts and furniture in the rooms is a let-down, but we enjoyed the efforts of the owners to provide a taste of the past - combined with running water and en-suite bathroom ;-) Our room was also very large and spacious with great views from the windows, it was also clean and comfortable. We got to sleep in a real 10th century castle! The renovations are so impressive and the rooms are beautiful - absolutely no concerns that this is anything less than stellar, on par with any other hotel in terms of comfort and amenities. Waking up to the sun streaming over than ramparts was amazing! We enjoyed every second of our stay, as there is plenty to explore, fantastic food at the restaurant, and wonderful staff.
