The best area to stay in Debre Libanos is directly within the Debre Libanos Monastery complex or in the nearby village for convenient access to the historical sites and natural beauty.Staying within the monastery complex offers an unparalleled opportunity for a peaceful and reflective experience. The guesthouses here are typically simple but provide direct access to the monastery's churches, museums, and stunning views of the Jemma River Gorge. It's an ideal choice for travellers seeking a spiritual retreat or a deep dive into the region's history and religious significance. For those who prefer a bit more comfort and local interaction, the small village just outside the monastery gates offers a few guesthouses and local eateries. This allows for easier access to the local community and additional amenities while still being a short walk from the monastery and the starting points for hikes into the gorge, such as to the Portuguese Bridge.

The best time to visit Debre Libanos is during the dry season, which runs from October to May.This period generally offers clear skies and pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the monastery, the surrounding gorge, and the natural beauty of the area. The trails are also much easier to navigate when they aren't muddy. Couples and solo travellers will find these months more comfortable for outdoor activities and photography. The shoulder months of October and May are particularly good as they often have fewer visitors than the peak dry season, yet still offer excellent weather conditions. This can mean a more tranquil experience when visiting the monastery or hiking to the cave churches. While the wet season (June to September) brings lush greenery and full waterfalls, it can also mean heavy rainfall, making some roads and trails difficult to access.
