The house was great for me and my two sons. We love to fish, so with the house sitting on the bay with the dock was excellent. Many different species can be caught from the the dock as well as crab. Dolphin can be seen from the dock as well. Mr Reeves is very nice and helpful as well making a great overall experience.
The property was just as described, not having enough salt or cooking oil was not a problem as we are smart enough to bring our own. Also 2 rolls of toilet paper and one roll of paper towels were plenty to get us started and finish our stay! Again we brought our own as we are adults and understand how a rental property works.
You can't beat the price for this unit. Sitting on the porch every morning drinking coffee and watching the sunrise was just what we needed. Unbelievably quiet the entire stay. The fishing was great.
We did have one major issue, the AC was not working. Figured this out within 15 minutes of arrival. John was contacted and was at the property in less than an hour with with 2 window AC units. Window units were more than enough to keep the place cool our entire stay. John is a very responsible owner and quick to resolve what was a major issue.
This Dauphin Island duplex was a coastal paradise that elevated our vacation. The private pier sparked daily fishing fun, Coastal Blue Persuasion’s charter was a thrilling highlight, the aquarium educated and entertained, and the restaurants delivered unforgettable flavors. Our 11-year-old is counting down to next summer, and our Yorkie was right at home. This rental’s blend of modern amenities, prime location, and family-friendly vibe has us hooked—we’re definitely coming back for more Dauphin Island memories
People were friendly. Many improvements are needed. Our fishing experience didn’t come out like we would have liked but that’s not the fault of anyone at our place 😃.

Average at best
I was surprised at all the reviews that gave this place a perfect rating. While it was ok, there is definitely room for improvement. I had to clean the bathroom on arrival, finding hair and dirt on the floor. I did not call the owner, as I didn’t want someone there while we were there. The place needs a lot of TLC. The pillows were obviously old and flat. The stove burners all tilt making it difficult to cook in a pan. The most unusual thing was that the doors between units were duct taped shut. We could hear the neighbors opening a can and conversing at a normal noise level. For the price I expected a lot better.
We had a great time staying with Mr Revees his place has everything you'll need for the perfect vacation, and I want to say something about all the other reviews that say it needs work, well of course it does all the vacation homes in that area need work if there being rented out on a regular basis, but I can tell you from experience the owner is upgrading this property constantly,he's put in floors, new deck, and is about to put new windows in the unit, there's neighbors next to you but they're really nice and don't bother you at all,I'm sure my little girls got a little bit to loud but not a word from them at all. I guess what I'm trying to say for the price of this unit it's absolutely awesome, the fishing is good, and he's even got a lot of stuff you can use to have fun with. Thanks for a great time and we will be in touch with you to stay again in one of your units very very soon

Great location; so-so hospitality
This is an amazing location on the island, and the price isn't bad. However, the listing could be clearer about the fact that this is only one side of a duplex (i.e., the photo could point to the side available for rent, instead of the middle of the house).
Also, the kitchen was disorganized and poorly stocked (salt shaker was empty, 1 tbs. of olive oil in bottle). No ice/water in fridge and no ice trays. Only one paper towel roll and two toilet paper rolls, watered down soap in kitchen/bathrooms. We were only able to use one of the burners, as two of the other burners would smoke upon turning heat on, and the other one was so tilted, we couldn't cook food evenly. The walls are thin, and we heard crying children several times a day. We had to purchase quite a bit of items (ice trays, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning spray, salt, oil, spices) to be able to cook our meals and clean the house during our stay.
The fishing is excellent, kayaks are nice and perfect to take out at sunset on the bay, and it's an all-around good, quiet location on the island. Given that this was our honeymoon, I was disappointed to not find the house set up more hospitably. Yes, it is older and he is making efforts to update it, but I think the larger issue is an overall feeling that this is being done as cheaply as possible to maximize profit instead of making guests feel at home.
Had a great time as always. Just a couple of suggestions to enhance the experience of others:
Upgrade the dishwasher
Exterior of Refrigerator was unappealing. Sure it was just a stain...but from what???
But overall, the place was awesome. Did some amazing fishing off of the dock. Made friends with a huge bird with a broken beak. Caught a few crab (but let them all go).
Was the perfect island getaway. We will be back and I hope to stay with you again!

Just Relaxin'
We had a wonderful and very relaxing time! Plenty of room & perfect location. We got to met the owner and had a great visit, very nice man. The neighbors were also very nice and answered all of our questions on our first time to Dauphin. We will definitely be back to the island.
Hannah's from Missouri
The wife and I stayed the week and had a great time. We visited all four beaches, most restaurants, all of the points of interest (Ft. Gaines, aquarium, parks, bird Sacturary, etc.) on the Island. We spent every evening fishing off the dock and caught some nice sheepshead, lots of trout, and two big red fish.

Very quick and helpful communication with John. The house is not fancy but is comfortable and in a quiet area which is great for relaxing and looking out at the water.
We were so excited about visiting Dauphin Island for the first time. John was great at answer NUMEROUS questions that we had prior to arriving. The views were amazing each sunrise and sunset was so stunning. The house is in a great location. Our grandkids came for a weekend visit for my birthday & I loved swinging on the porch swing with my grandkids. I loved peeking out the window to watch my husband fish. We had issues with the internet/cable. However, John was on top of it. But>>after being on the island for awhile we realized its a common thing if you have a storm/winds. The only suggestion I had for John was to put a DVD at the home. Be sure to look if that change was made. If not bring a good book and a card game. The Queen bed was super comfy. Extra quilt provided which was needed on the only "real" cold day. John stopped by for a visit and it was a pleasure meeting him. We definitely would book again. Thank you John and thank you Dauphin Island for giving us such great memories.
A nice place if you want to be far AWAY from everything
Negatives were: those are double beds and not queens, I am almost sure. Brought my own queen sheets and they were huge. Mostly clean, except the laundry area and air conditioner vent. A couple of the plates toward the bottom were dirty, like old food on them. TV got few channels and quit working a couple of days before we left. Maybe we just didn't know how to fix and wifi didn't work even when we followed instructions on how to fix. Doorknob to laundry area came completely off and husband did have tools to fix it. The owner was very responsive and even brought a new hairdryer when I let him know there was not one. I'm sure he would have fixed tv and wifi, but not that important to us. Paid A LOT for what it was, but went in expensive season and it did meet our needs for a nice dock and under the porch was nice. It is a long way to grocery stores and few restaurants around, so come well prepared when you stay here.
We enjoyed our stay at this property. It was very soothing being right on the water watching the birds. Boiled crabs that we caught a couple of nights while we were there. Neighbors lovely couple who are long-term renters. We needed to unplug and recharge to return to work and that is just what we did. Did watch Olympics some. Our son was still able to hook to internet for his games so this was a plus. Owner very responsive. We would stay again if we were looking to be close to water and fishing.
To address the negatives first: door knobs (exterior and a few interior) were very loose but my husband had the tools necessary to fix them quickly, shower drain was plugged (gross cleaning out other guests hair!) But overall cleanliness was just fine. Main rooms were impeccable, laundry area good use a good cleaning/de-linting.
Now for the positives- as stated main rooms were clean. Ample supplies in kitchen, couch unbelievably comfortable, owner incredibly nice and quick to respond, check-in/out very very easy, great location, sweet neighbors. This was the perfect spot for my small family for a much needed vacation!
Loved our stay at 856-B Desoto and on Dauphin Island! The under house area provided a shady place to enjoy hammocks, reading, to store bikes and other gear. Cooked steaks and crabs on the charcoal grill. The main building on stilts provided a wonderful sunrises and views of dolphins, birds, heron "Earl" a regular visitor, and boats cruising Dauphin Bay .
Nice views from inside the open living-dining-kitchen and generous deck facing the bay. Backyard dock access, provided crab traps and two kayaks we launched from the dock. Dogs dock dived. Dog friendly rental and the whole island and area was dog friendly.
The rental was the perfect place to hang-out and to support exploring. The rental guest book provided information and we visited the Audubon Birding Park, Estuarine Marine Museum, Historic Fort Gains and took the ferry to Fort Morgan. The delicious Lighthouse Bakery was a close walk. East beach was our favorite, 5 minute drive or easy biking. We love to cook and brought most of our food for the week. Loved dining at the rental with the best sunsets and water views! "No reservations or waiting." The kitchen was adequate. Would like a bamboo cutting board instead of glass. A few more towel bars and hooks. Also, need crab pliers. Met side A renters Randy and Charlotte and family.
We respected each other's space but also got to know them. Randy taught us about cleaning the crabs and added to a good time. Rental Owner John checked on us and responded quickly to a couple bulb changes. We would stay again and recommend this property. Larry and Jane
Love the area this property is located in. Close walk to the convenient store. The kids really enjoyed the dock and the fishing! Would totally recommend staying here if you have a few kids or if you have a dog.
The view was beautiful. We enjoyed many dinners and evenings under the house with a breeze off the water. Fishing off the wall was fun with a few nice catches.
This home was a perfect fit for a group of retired traveling friends. The location was great as we could ride our bikes to the beach, local stores and all the best birding places on the island. Fishing off the dock and shore proved very fruitful and we caught enough for fish tacos one night and they were delicious! The home has a simple, comfortable layout with a great balcony and fantastic views of the bay out our front door. We ate many meals outside and of course morning coffee enjoyed here too. We made good use of the charcoal grill as well several nights. John was an excellent host, responding to any of our questions in just minutes by text or phone. Given the opportunity, I would surely stay here again.
