Excellent,
We had a wonderful stay in River Cottage. The house is fabulous, with everything you could possibly need. The views of the river are spectacular and we loved sitting in the conservatory watching it racing by. This house doesn't want for anything and was perfect for our family. We would highly recommend it.

This is a great place to stay, river and wild life at the back door. Lots to do and see at local towns. The Hot Tub has the best views. We Will be back.

Fab week stay within a beautiful location. Amazing for wildlife lovers and if you love wild swimming , kayaking perfect location with private access to the river straight from property we where in every day. Few improvements (personal opinion) Garden could be cut back especially from steps down to the river front and a few stingy nettles to the entrance to the river so be careful not to be stung. Hot tub - extra cost for this even with the price of energy increasing is overly expensive especially for the age and size. £80 is a reasonable price for a weeks rental. Poster on recycle bin in kitchen needs to be removed as this is not correct to what actually goes in each bin. Window cleaner -arrived on Thursday no communication that he was coming it was a bit of a surprise when coming back up to the house from the river to hear someone in the garden. Communication about this would be helpful. Tennis - we did ask owner about but did not receive a response on how or where to book and play. There is a playing field up a lane by the primary school where there is ample room to play and also football pitch with goals. Amenities in village - Pub in village at present is not serving food. Reasonable priced for drinks and has a nice beer garden out the back. Chippy - fab chippy in village , owners a fab and you can ring with your order Local shop - watch what you are charged as twice used staff are very nice but both times where overcharge.

Peaceful and a brilliant location
We had a lovely weekend away from start to finish! We arrived to a well equipped spacious property overlooking the picturesque river Tees only a stones throw to the pub, corner shop, chippy and wonderful walks! Sarah is a great host and we felt very much at home. Thank you so much.

Stunning bungalow in quiet, relaxing location!
The River Cottage is beautiful, modern and extremely well-kept; it is fully equipped and clean. Probably the nicest cottage we've found in over 20 years of summer family holidays in the UK. We had a very relaxing stay and enjoyed the stunning view of the river as well as the surrounding area. Sarah was very helpful in all respects. Overall a really lovely holiday for all the family!

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home, it has been truly amazing, the weather has been fantastic, we have played football on the green, had fish and chips, ate Sunday Lunch In the Cross Keys! Had a few days out in Barnard Castle which may I say is stunning! My Grandson and daughter visited us from Northallerton!! We had many moonlight hot tub experiences!!! All I can say is a totally awesome time was had from the whole family !! We will be in touch when we get home for next year, so Thank You

Absolutely stunning
We stayed for a week and we’re blessed with the best weather. We enjoyed walking and exploring the village. Sitting outside on the patio. It is so quiet and peaceful. All you can hear is birds the river. Inside is accessible and again brilliant. All you would need in cutlery, cooking stuff and glasses etc. has two big fridge freezers. Love the secret fourth bedroom. Location is perfect. Only slight worry when we got there was parking. Could only fit two cars in. But it’s a quiet cul de sac and plenty of on road parking and the drive parking just covers the pavement. Was no trouble in the end at all. We cannot wait to return.

Lovely retreat by the river
Very nice accommodation with lots of facilities. Beds comfortable and good storage and fridge/freezer capacity. Open plan kitchen lounge and conservatory was great for entertaining, as was the sliding doors. Nice walks along the river for our dog and good fish & chip shop in the village. This was our 2nd stay and would recommend to anyone.

Great weekend!
Beautiful and peaceful location next to the river Tees. A quiet cill de sac leading to a wide green with the friendly local pub within two minutes walk. Excellent facilities in this warm and welcoming property, with the host Sarah making sure we had all we needed.

This fabulous house in such a beautiful setting was perfect for all 3 generations. We would usually eat out at night but as many places were closed in our particular week, we ate at the house most nights. This wasn’t a problem because of both the wonderful house and just how well equipped it was.

A fabulous location with wonderful views. We spent hours watching the wildlife on the River Tees. It is a large open plan house ideal for a family get together. It has plenty of space with a beautiful conservatory overlooking the river. There are lots of terraces with plenty of seating. The kitchen is well equipped and there is everything you need including a huge barbecue. Claims to have off road parking for 3 cars but we struggled to get two on the drive. Cleanliness could have been better especially in the current Covid climate. It is not clear in the house details on the website that the hot tub is available for hire at an additional cost. All in all this is a great house in a lovely part of the country.

River Cottage is an absolutely lovely property with everything you need right there! Sarah and her family were wonderful hosts, very helpful and attentive. The area is great for exploring, lovely walks and cozy country pubs. The view along the river from the house while relaxing on one of the terraces is lovely. The house was spotless and really comfortable and inviting. Overall, just wonderul!

River Cottage has everything you could wish for. So well equipped. It is in an amazing location overlooking the river. Couldn’t ask for a better place. We all had a lovely relaxing stay. Raby castle is only 10 minutes away and definitely worth visiting. This was our second visit and will definitely be coming back.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this perfectly situated bungalow. Beautiful picturesque setting and very peaceful. The bungalow is exceptionally clean and spacious and well stocked with home essentials. The rooms were comfortable and nicely decorated. The gardens are well maintained and add to the charm of the property. The village is pretty and offers lovely walks along the river. Booking and communication with the owner was exceptionally easy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

The cottage is absolutely beautiful with 4 large bedrooms. Great for a family gathering or a group of friends. The view is stunning and there a lots of lovely walks. The lay out is fantastic and with 9 adults it was not crowded. I would definitely recommend this property .

Absolutely 1st class
This has got to be had best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in . The property is finished to a very high standard with everything you could possibly need. Being by the river is totally relaxing with plenty of outdoor seating. Indoors the open plan layout works well, the beds are very comfy and soft fluffy towel a luxury. Gainford is a very pretty village with basic amenities, shop , pub , cafe and fish and chip shop, Plenty of eating establishments s sort drive away. Great walks and plenty of thing to see and do in the area . Thank you Sarah

Wonderful Cottage
Very comfortable, with all the bits and bobs you will require and then some. Lovely river views from inside and out. A lot of trouble has gone into the lighting design, making it very atmospheric both inside and outside. Well recommended.

Great open plan living space for a family holiday
We spent a magical Christmas by the river in Gainford. The house has a great open plan living space to be able to share cooking, relaxing & otter spotting together as a family. The spa bath however was a wonderful way to escape from excitable kids with a glass of champagne.

Peaceful and everything you want there
Sarah met us there to let us in and explain things. You walk in and get the wow factor. Its so superior inside. It has bi fold doors from the conservatory to outside that looked lovely, although if you get them open on locking them shut it is a bit difficult. We opened them once only but that was because we had a big problem with gnats, and they like to bite us so we had to keep them closed. The cupboard was stocked with different food/drink bits you may need. It was advertised there was going to be shampoo etc, but there wasn't any of those. That wasn't a problem, but it did say. Its lovely outside at the side of the river. Although nothing goes on on the river, so if you are expecting a boat to go by or something else you'll be disappointed. I did see a young otter of the side of the river just once. I also found leaflets out of date. Found a great farm I wanted to go to but it ran out years ago and they only do camping now. That was a disappointment. I left lots of leaflets we had left over so she can update some. We was looking forward to the gas bbq there, but that was rusty so we used disposable bbqs we bought instead. I don't know if other people cook on rust but we don't. It is definitely an upper class bungalow and they had tried to think of most things someone might want. There was Netflix and there was an iPhone I think plugged in so you can listen to music or radio. We would go back, but to be honest the gnats were a big problem to us with no wanting to get bit and we never thought before about them coming off the river.

I am pleased you enjoyed your holiday at River Cottage.. Just a few things to clear up. The bbq is cast iron. Cast iron rusts the moment it cools after use. This is why people preheat their bbq in preparation to cook which burns off any rust or residue. The River Tees is fresh water so it’s unusual to have anything that bites around except for the fish. It is a beautiful river to be beside, super relaxing and mesmerising at the same time.

5 star plus accomdation with everything you need. Fantastic location with beautiful views.. great walks in the area and everywhere dog friendly. Local pub welcoming, excellent fish and chip shop. Bridgewater arms in Winston is an absolute must. Food amazing... Will definitely look at coming back again

The photographs on the website do not 'do it justice.' What a superb location in a small chocolate box village but with many facilities but just a short drive away. The owners were very attentive and knowledgeable about the locality which was very helpful. All in all a lovely relaxing holiday by the river :-)

Amazing place
I can't tell you pleased I was with this lovely place. Sarah was so nice and helpful from booking to meeting us on arrival. We booked a long weekend for my Fathers 70th birthday. As we all arrived my parents first words were WOW! Totally made my Fathers birthday. Lovely bottle of wine left for us to sit back and relax with. The place stunning! Attention to detail is amazing and top quality. We had everything we needed and more. Sarah had thought of everything. Beds are so comfy and bathrooms gorgeous! Totally relaxing weekend. Even my sisters car breaking down didn't stress us! Thank you so much Sarah. I have already recommended to work colleagues.
