Large, walled garden entirely safe for children of all ages with secure, gated pool area. A short distance (3 minute drive) to the renowned and beautiful small town of Dampierre-sur-Boutonne with its river, remarkable chateau open for visitors, donkey sanctuary, quaint riverside bar with pretty garden and live music and handy food store. Close to Aulnay, with large Intermarché supermarket, shops, nice restaurants and Sunday market in the central square and historic St-Jean-d’Angely with beautiful cobbled streets, shops and restaurants. Half an hour to the charming and elegant medieval town of Niort, and the fabulous Le Marais Poitevin (the ‘green venice’) with its network of beautiful rivers with hire-boats and riverside towns, restaurants and cafés. Under an hour to La Rochelle, Ile-de-Re and an array of exquisite beaches including Fouras and Chatelaillon Plage. Easy access to Ile-d’Oleron, Royen, Rochfort, Saintes and Cognac, and within striking distance of the world-renowned vineyards of Bordeaux. Really in the countryside, absolute peace and quiet. Kids (teens) loved the pool, the games, the table tennis. Bedrooms are a good size, bathrooms good. The children had an amazing time in the garden and we loved that it was a safe enclosed space for them. The pool- which was gated- was wonderful. It was peaceful and quaint. We enjoyed wandering down to the pretty sleepy village and exploring the chateau. Lots of nice places within reach in the car too - ile d’oleron was worth the drive and jean d’anglesy was a nice town. If visiting with children- there’s a playground in the village that we weren’t aware of until we took the recycling on the last day. It’s just behind the salle municipale! ##### Alice S. We throughly enjoyed our week here. The house was beautiful. Loads of games to keep teens busy. Dart’s, ping pong table ,basket ball and of course the huge private pool. Grandma even made crumble from apples in the garden. Communication with owners was great but we didn’t need them as everything the wonderful. We had great local days out too. The house worked well for 6 adults and 4 children age 12-14 years. Plenty of seating and we ate all our meals outside. We made good use of the pool and outdoor games, and the kids enjoyed DVDs and board games when they needed some down time out of the sun. Ile d’AIx and Ile Re both spectacular. And Roman remains at Saintes impressive and very unexpected. There’s so much to see and do. And we ate and drank, mainly from local markets, to excess. A very happy holiday! Huis zeer goed geïsoleerd en dat was nodig bij de extreem hoge temperaturen. Sanitaire voorzieningen ruim aanwezig én werken goed (in vele Franse huizen hebben we op dat vlak geen goede ervaringen).
