About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Sleeps groups to 12! Modern open spaces. Yoga loft. Deck. Kitchen. Peaceful.
You and your group will love this private 45 acre former working farm with a large lake (non swimming) and lots of large oak trees. This property is great for family reunions and small groups. This modernized 100+ year old barn has an open floor plan and living room, yoga loft, large modern kitchen, large deck, fire pit. Guests sleep in one of three queen bedrooms or a trundle bed. The lower level has a second living room, kitchen, dining area and reading room with a futon. The upstairs former hay loft is a large open space with three twin beds (two with trundles) and a disco ball for a dance party! Enjoy the fire pit and the dark country sky and see bright stars and fire flies at night. The lake often has loons and swans and if you are a bird watcher you will see many! The land has turtles, frogs, deer, fox, wild turkey and other wildlife!
*The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, pots, pans, dishes, glassware, other helpful kitchen utensils, salt, pepper, coffee filters. A gas grill is located on back deck.
* The farm at Joten Lake Acres provides bedding for all beds, towels for rental guests, hand and dish soap for sinks. We do not provide shampoo.
The laundry room is in the garden level - you'll see the stairs which lead to the basement from the main floor.
There is MUCH to do in Ottertail County including beautiful lakes, rolling hills and trees. consider bringing bikes to enjoy the MN Central Bike Trail (access in 'downtown' Dalton)! Consider swimming in one of many clean lakes and rivers. The area has local dining, bike/snowmobile trails, fishing/ice fishing, hunting, other services like massage and local artists. There is a nature center in Fergus Falls, some great local museums in Alexandra and Fergus Falls. There are swimming areas, golf courses, biking trails and many scenic byways to drive and enjoy the natural beauty of this land valued by native Americans and Vikings in times past.
Let me know if we can help you plan your trip! Sincerely, Alison

We stayed here with our bridal party over our wedding weekend and it was a wonderful place to stay! Lots of space for a big group and the facilities all worked great.
Check in process was a breeze. Great communication with the owners when we had questions.
Everything was clean and as expected. With plenty of room for 11 people - we all slept comfortably, had plenty of room to make meals for everyone and great space to serve it all. It was a wonderful experience to be able to all eat together in one space.
The important points:
Great water pressure - comfortable beds - lots of hot water - great morning views on the deck for a quiet cup of Joe - funky bonfire pit - and a few bonus visitors from deer, geese and pelicans.
The teens (and men) loved the sound system! And found their way to the lake where a few good sized bullheads were caught and released.
Biggest hit with the group - the Harry Potter Uno card game around the kitchen table with 9 people! Family-friendly home at its finest.
Highly recommend this place for a quiet picturesque place to get away from it all.
The property lists a washing machine. We were charged $0.50 if we wanted to do a load of laundry. The owner requested the money be sent via Venmo. It lists a stereo with surround sound for entertainment. The cable for the sound system in the upstairs loft area was broken, so I could not hook up a phone to the system to play music. The disco ball did not spin. The towels in the basement level bathroom were musty/mildewy smelling and feeling. Under the chairs in the upstairs living room, there were chunks of Irish Spring soap and even a chunk of soap under the fitted sheet in one of the beds. Also, in the downstairs bedroom, along the wall and behind the bed, there was a significant amount of mouse poop. In the upstairs living room/seating area, the small couch had a broken armrest. This was not shown in the photos. The walls and trim had many holes/scratches throughout the property being repaired/patched and painted with the incorrect color paint. Overall the property is nice but not as great as the photos make it seem.

This is a beautifully renovated property. The views are picturesque and calming. It was ideal for reconnecting with family. It boosts a large capacity but can only really host 5 couples or fewer comfortably. It has a sizable stylish bathroom on each level but the water is minerally and smells strongly of pennies. I’m not sure if it was the hard water or the dishwater but the dishes never felt clean. Each bathroom also had a warning that the septic tank was sensitive and minimal toilet tissue should be used. It has geothermal heating and cooling which worked but made constant noise for those sleeping in the basement. It is very remote being on 45 acres of land, with a long dirt road entrance, which can make trips out for groceries or activities cumbersome and nights with so many curtainless windows spooky. The few windows with curtains were ill fitting and didn’t fully block sun. Some of the furniture is in rough shape especially one couch missing an armrest in a dangerous way. The property has a large deck across the back which was a great place to hang out but got pretty toasty when it was sunny. The upper level is big and open and the kids loved running and dancing up there even if the disco ball wouldn’t rotate. There was an issue with the keyless entry system that never got fixed but the owners had a back up figured out before our arrival. Bring bug spray or bug candles/lamps, being the only light around really drew them in. It was a lovely, secluded place.
Wonderful experience on this peaceful acreage. Watched the sunrise over the lake every morning with a cup of coffee. The upstairs loft was a bonus area with a great view. Thanks for the lovely stay.
