Montevideo, the national capital, is 70 miles (113 kilometers) to the southeast of Cufre.
When it comes to getting the best out of your holiday, it's worth keeping in mind that Cufre is just the beginning; Uruguay has been blessed with a treasure-trove of wonderful things to do and see. San Jose de Mayo, is 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the northwest, and Tarariras can be found 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the east.
While you are in Cufre, don't forget to spend a few hours exploring Colonia del Sacramento. Approximately 45 miles (72 kilometers) to the southwest, this regional transport and shopping hub is where you'll find Colonia del Sacramento Plaza Major, Convent of San Francisco and Theater Bastion del Carmen. Calabres Beach and Portuguese Museum are a number of other places worth investigating for those who have time to spare.
Every place contains a specific history and the Uruguay area has its own fair share of stories to tell. The ruins in these parts provide a great snapshot to the past.
